@Techykabas When system Restore is complete it shows an red "X" one the top left. It says "System Restore did not complete successfully. Your coomputers's system files and settings were not changed."

Details:

System Restore failed while copying the registry from the restore point. The registry in the restore point was damaged and could not be restored.

i had this problem. i had a black screen after logging in. no internet connection or anything Microsoft would run. other programes ran.

i couldn't get itno troubleshooter because it wouldn't run.

eventually i went to user accounts and moved the slider down to never notify, rebooted and everything worked ok.

microsft security settings were preventing their own programs from running, or so it seems to someone with very litied IT experience.

ok here its my problem :ive got a Thoshiba Satelite A300 with windows 7 on it

something happened and when i trun it on it says start witdouws normally.Then

windows say starting windows and that takes about 2 minutes !After doing this

1 or 2 times a black screen shows up with a moouse only that looks like the xp's

one.I cant access safe mode or repair because it wil just say windows is loading files

(i know im illegal).And no i dont have a cd with windows 7.But i had the windows vista

recovery disk made from toshiba that has teh os included as well as the drivers tooi insert the cd in i pressed f12 to go to the boot manager and i clicked cd as i used to

do when i had problems with the os but now it didnt work the same black screen.

@Techykabas I have a custom build pc with Windows seven, One time it told me I could update my OS if I wanted to so I followed the steps, putting the windows cd back in and going through the process. I soon realised that It was going to take hours (which I didn't have time for at the time) so I cancelled the update, ever since I have been asked if i want to update my system or start normally every time i start my pc, even though the cd is not in. I decide i could live with that.... (1/2)

@Techykabas More recently however I have been experiencing the normal startup with the black+white text screens followed by the starting windows screen but after this I get a black screen with an old style mouse. I can start up in safe mode ( which is how I am speaking with you now) But the normal login screen is unreachable. Any ideas? I know my specs if necessary.

@12308madman do you have any handheld devices? Such as an IPod? You can download the video and watch it from something like that. But all you basically do is repeatedly click on F8 right after turning on your PC. Then choose "Repair computer". Then go on 'till you find "System restore", choose a date. Then restore your PC. But make sure to not turn off your PC or anything of the sort while system restoring.

my w7 64 hibernates through a black screen. no way of telling howfar it's reached in the hibernation and then the toshiba laptop shuts down normally. how do i fix that? is it a multi-processor problem?

@Techykabas No just one screen, the laptop screen. So in W7, i hit hibernate and then the screen goes to black but the hard-drive is still working. And then after 45 seconds, the machine switches off. I think it is hibernating but I'd rather it showed me a progress bar of the hibernation, not a black screen.

i had this same problem but for some strange reason it would not allow me to run system restore. how i ended up fixing it was by running the fix it CD for win7. i found out that what caused the problem was my stupid IPOD!

@dankbud42o Not everyone knows how to system restore manually, like this. And everyone has a restore point on their computer, everyone with a windows computer anyways, which is(from my knowledge) the only type of OS where Black Screens happen. And this's a real solution as 100+ people seem to agree with me, and I've got comments to back it up. If it hasn't fixed your problem, it should be because of a hardware problem, which you'll need a professional for(1000s of things can be wrong with it).

After pressing f8, i get to the screen, Please select boot device: There is, floppy, HDD and IDE: _NEC DVD_RW which is my dvd, which has windows 7 disc inside. So pick the dvd. When it loads and i get into the screen with my background, there doesnt show a menu with language and options. Its just a blackscreen with cursor but with a nice blue background this time.. Im stuck here.

IF THERES NO EXPLORER.EXE IN YOUR WINDOWS FOLDER: copy and paste "explorer_edit_w7sbc.exe" in the same folder and rename it to explorer.exe. Then start explorer.exe. THIS WORKED FOR ME :D:D:D

2. Choose your language settings and then click next

3. Click repair your computer

o my goodness. this happened to me this morning. i was so pissed and so scared i would lose all my files and pictures and music. I didnt have access to the internet so i had to figure it out on my own. i went to the recovery thing and picked a few restore points but it said all of them failed. then my computer rebooted and it worked and saod it was successful. wierd but so glad it worked

@loyaltyjones423 Nope. It only deletes the files you made after the date you chose on the "System Recovery" therefore, you need to chose the latest date. But, sometimes it doesn't. It'll probably be little files, nothing big.
