we noticed this too. Our new cat figured it out all by himself, before we even put the magnet on his collar (the old cat had died, so it wasn't that he was inspired by someone else, either).
We recently installed the super selective cat flap, which uses a chip instead. You can program it to lock at night (or whatever) which is a really good idea. Our cat can't override this flap. However,he pulled the whole door out of the wall when we first installed it (guess those screws are important!)
