i love this. :) Oh you are about to warm up. lets see what happens. First I'm just reading and not watching. CHRIS, WHERE ARE YOU SHIRTS. Do you like walking around with no clothes on. MY GOODNESS. :)))))))
Nice voice. And if you live in the DC area, you're the second amazing singer I've met on here. The other one is Sahand. I saw him in January and thought that I recognized him and I did. I go to the Cheesecake Factory in Fair Oaks a lot and have seen him there several times and always thought he should be a model, but lo and behold, he has an amazing voice. Thanks for sharing your voice, man! BTW - what nationality are you?
all of your sound is stuck in the back of your throat and is so manufactured. Find your true voice. Its the voice we hear when you speak, its so much lighter than when you sing. But good luck on the audition
@aroncooker Actually, you're wrong. But thanks for watching my videos. Everyone's got their own opinions, and I'm putting it right out there for people to be critical in any way they see fit, so that's fine. In the future, however, you might not want to offer negative comments to singers unless they ask for your feedback. It's rude and it's annoying. Washington National Opera hired me after this audition. So good luck to you in knowing what you're talking about.
@divoboy I assumed you would say all of that, its not surprising. I promise that its true. Your singing like most of the typical baritones these days. Manufactured sound, pushing, and pretty much screaming. Its not healthy, simple reason why these young singers are having 4-5 year careers instead of a life long career. I wasnt being negative, its constructive criticism. Watching you looks painful. your straining, pushing, vibrato gets slow, your shaking, all easy signs of this.
@divoboy You have a nice instrument in there being covered up by all of the swallowed sound. Focus on forward resonance, a higher breath energy, speaking with a better position. You speak with so much pressure on the chords, probably the reason why you have to constantly clear your throat while singing. I had the same issues. Believe me, it makes the world of a difference. Caruso once said, the guide to a well placed singing voice is a well placed speaking voice. Im not just making stuff up.
@aroncooker I will leave your comments up, because you seem sincere in your intent.I think you're crazy, but that's fine. You seem like you mean well in some way. The video you're talking about was taped four years ago, so obviously a lot has changed, Please just move onto someone else's singing video to trash. Your comments don't serve me in any way, but I'm sure some other impressionable dumbass will lap all that negativity right up. Comment on my other vids? You're blocked, my friend.
@aroncooker Mr Cooker. I have monitored your comments of late, and it is time for you to receive advice from a much older, wiser musicologist, composer, and information professional. 1) Never give unsolicited advice. Here is a website that may be of help to you and your condition:
@aroncooker Go to work911 in Google and type in "unsolicited advice" and you will find an article that will help (links are not posting here for some reason). If you wonder why people receive you with resentment or anger, this may help you understand why. 2) I noticed your comments about Chris Jones's Korngold.
@aroncooker I would advise you to do your history homework and find out that almost all opera singers in the past half-century have performed this aria incorrectly - slow, unfeeling, and not as a waltz - and Mr. Jones's rendition has moved this piece closer to its intended interpretation. Many have noticed this as it has been shared with them. Another YouTuber (one who is not only polite but educated on these things) "BrendanGCarroll" has uploaded an audio clip
@aroncooker of the great Korngold playing his own piece for us, and you will notice that it is faster and played as a waltz, just as Mr. Jones performed it. I have spoken with Mr. Jones, and he has informed me that in the next couple of months, there will be another recording of this aria LIVE, in which he will bring the interpretation even closer to that which Korngold himself displayed in the above mentioned video. Respectfully, and also with pity, a seasoned musician of over 30 years.
@robertchrystal First of all, you have misunderstood. I said nothing about his interpretation of the piece, because he is right. So I have no idea why you commented about that. Secondly, I do my research, dont doubt my capabilities because of my age. And who are you?
Also, I wasnt giving unsolicited advice. I was giving my opinion because, by doing MY RESEARCH, I have seen the decay in this art form because of mediocre singers, bad teachers, etc.
@aroncooker I do not owe you any explanation of who I am. What you do need to understand is that the words "unsolicited advice" means that the person to whom it was given did not specifically ask you for this advice. So, your comments, in addition to being cold, and not based on a spirit of constructive criticism, are unsolicited. Grow up. A mature musician would have known how to approach another with his "constructive" criticism. This is my last communication with you.
@robertchrystal I understand what unsolicited advice is. This is a public domain for videos, if he doesnt want comments he shouldnt post the damn videos in the first place. Or he shouldnt put up a comments page. Last I looked at the comments, it seemed pretty constructive and honest. It was my honest opinion. Just because he cant accept the truth is not my problem.
Can I just say something? Isnt this rant that your giving me "UNSOLICITED ADVICE" too? Maybe you should take your own advice.
@aroncooker Yes, it is unsolicited advice. And it does not feel good does it? You are getting defensive just as others I am sure respond in kind to your opinions. Yes, this is a public forum, however, you may want to focus on making some videos of yourself to offer for others' criticism instead of cowardly attacking others based on your own ideas. Once I see some videos of you singing up here, allowing others to rip you to shreds, then I will listen to you. BTW you are being blocked.
@robertchrystal Was aroncooker a little tactless in his approach? Maybe so. Do you agree with his comments? Maybe not. It doesn't matter. You're free to approach him as well, but to do, essentially, what he did and then bash him for it is blatant and outrageous hypocrisy. Agree to disagree, and move on. The videos owner can certainly remove aroncooker's comments if he doesn't like them, or even disable the adding of comments to the video. This is solely at his disgression.
@robertchrystal actually I could care less about what you are trying to say. I just find it funny. Sticking up for your buddy Chris. Im not getting defensive, just explaining that people can freely say what they want on here. If you dont like it then get over it.
Point is you took this way too far. I was trying to give constructive criticism. It's just Chris and you both seem to not know what that is or how to take it.
There is a specific reason why I havent put up videos of myself yet.
@robertchrystal I believe what aroncooker means when he says he is not giving unsolicited advice, only his opinion, is that this is a public forum where anyone is free to comment, like/dislike, favorite, add a video response, pretty much anything. Nothing is unsolicited when posted for the world to give their opinion of. That's why the site has comment boxes, for responses/reactions! That's the point of youtube in general! aroncooker simply commented on a video with his opinion, nothing more.
@rhawkns I understand this is a public forum. Therefore, I exercised my right as an older musician to give aroncooker some unsolicited advice - that he stop being such a diva, sit at his own teacher's feet, and learn. In addition, if he plans on being mean to people, then he should post videos of himself singing so that this can truly be a public forum, and we can all give our opinions about Mr Cooker's voice.
@robertchrystal You've missed the point. This is not about being a public forum. This is a bigger picture about young musicians who think they know everything. This conversation could be continued offline even. I feel sorry for mr cooker's voice teacher.
@robertchrystal See now thats just funny. What would my voice teacher have to do with this? I can guarantee you that he would support most of my musical opinions.
@robertchrystal I'm glad we can be civil and not resort to the vitriol most spew here. I was only remarking that your zeal for defense of divoboy perhaps took you across the same lines you accused him of crossing. If he wants to put up videos of himself, I'm sure he will. That is at HIS discretion (forgive my earlier misspelling, I've been spelling it wrong my entire life). Everyone has an opinion, can share it, and will. Do we all always agree? Not a chance. It keeps things interesting.
@rhawkns I agree with you sir. My point, as an information professional who even programs these kinds of sites/forums, is that if more people could come on here and agree/disagree in a respectful way (not mean), this would be a more civil world. This was my point, that I failed in making to mr cooker. If he would have listened to my subtext (being civil), he would have had the same kind of conversation that you and I just had. Thank you for your engaging conversation, and happy video watching!
@robertchrystal See to me it wasnt about being civilized or not. It was that you completely misunderstood me and didnt realize that what I was giving was constructive criticism. Instead you told me I was mean and that I should be nice. You sound like a child.
@robertchrystal Thank you as well. One final thing from me, and then I'll just go back to enjoying youtube. I think we all agree that Mr. Jones' tempo of the Korngold is correct. It's nice to see a young singer realize most of the musically illiterate singers/conductors of the past half century have consistently butchered a beautiful piece. So we should dig a little deeper! Try Karl Hammes singing the Tanzlied here on youtube from 1930. It's fantastic. I think Mr. Jones would enjoy it as well.
@robertchrystal Yes that video is amazing. And Chris and i have spoken about it many times. Good stuff and it is a good example for chris to strive to match in his future live recording. Good call, sir! Have a good day. Respectfully.
OMG I just laughed so hard I think I peed a little. Honey, I don't own anything shiny enough for our dear Mother Africa. She is in a league all her own!
Superb Sound! You are clearly on your way to the top of Opera universe. Your list of influences is outstanding and no doubt you have attended to your lessons very well. Remember, the top spots are always available.
You know...I don't normally virtually accost strangers in any way that could be construed as inappropriate but...I am quickly becoming enamored with you. (Geesh, that sounds creepy)
Lol, I'm wondering how I'm supposed to focus on your singing while you insisist on being semi-nude. Makes things mighty diffictult... hope the audition went well, you've got a very nice high g, I say flaunt it when ever the opportunity presents itself.
Thanks so much for your comment! LOL This was totally spontaneous and I definitely hadn't planned it out to be half naked, but oh well! I'm naked most of the time, this time I just happened to hit record. lmao The audition went pretty well, I'm sure I'll post a naked VLOG about the results when I get them. :-)
Glad the audition went well! I'll be watching out for your next VLOG, cheers! Oh, and if you ever want to be extremely amused, go watch and and all of the clips of Legally Blonde the Musical on youtube. It has made me a much happier human being.
