  • Does this thing still work? MAKE IT SING STILL ALIVE!!!!

  • Hello ladies and gentlemen.

    It's all the cat.

    It's all the cat,

    It's all the cat!

  • He is Microsoft Sam's father

  • Still a better love story than Twilight.

  • Steven Hawking prototype.

  • and it still sounds better than Microsoft Sam.

  • @sinimini Your comment made me lose all hope for humanity... Thank you for ruining a great song

  • @pokamonmaster1997 Haha sorry, we used to sing it on the way home from rugby games after we had won! Couldnt resist, i am a nice guy really. I saved a guys life last year!

  • is this song on i tunes?

  • 'Daisy Bell'

    This is the Chorus.

  • holy crap O_o he sound's kinda like Big Al! I love the Vocaloids & Utauloids, and I love this computer he sounds so cute~

I wan him but he's to big for my place!

  • "Daisy, Daisy" Shades of Hal 9000 in "2001 A Space Odyssey."

  • amazing quality of computer speech at 0:38

  • PIECE OF THE CAT

    PIECE OF THE CAT

  • Indian?

  • Interesting how with all the advancements made in artificially-generated speech, the sound of this method's tonal qualities make it "classic"... as opposed to "antiquated" or just simply "outmoded", thankfully. Same goes for Auto-tuner versus Vocoder: Vocoder wins be mere cool-factor of it's smooth, "organic" sound.

  • Sounds way better than Hawking's contraption.

  • Speech Synthesis,

and playing music, these machines are the first to do that

  • Go Science! :D

  • why is this better than microsoft sam? cant we have better computer voices?

  • i still think it sounds batshit!

  • @foxsux6000 It is the first computer-generated speech.. -.- Do you really think computers can talk like terminators?

  • @LeeviON ?!? whut?!?

  • So this is where Hawkins got his start

  • where did ya get this recording from?

  • i want this computer. btw, T-Pain can't even compare to this. go MAX!

  • now thats what i call auto-tune! T-Pain ain't got shit on this.

  • This is much better than Microsoft Sam.

  • that old computer seem's to come to life when the accompaniment kicks in and starts to sing like a pub full of home supporters on a 4.0 win

  • Why can't you make music like that today with MIDI and sequencing programs like Sibelius? Why can't you make your lyric tracks SING rather than just hum? I mean, I heard this "Daisy" was programmed in 1961, did this technology not catch on?

  • @mcwooley, Check out a technology from Yamaha called Vocaloid

  • My instructor was Mr. Langley, and he taught me to sing a song. If you'd like to hear it I can sing it for you. It's called "Daisy."

  • but who would marry a computer?

  • @puddingpimp Who WOULDN'T marry a computer? We shouldn't take these awesome machines for granted.

  • Wait...i didn't put this in my favourites yet?

    Okay go on now! ^^

  • Phononut, can you put the year and context of this wonderful computer in your commentary notes below the video.

  • I should know better than to listen to shit like this at night.

  • The song is "daisy."

  • I am sinistar

  • This is really touching. I do not know why, but this makes me want to cry.

  • That's great. I become deeply sad when I remember HAL 9000 dying. Poor thing.

  • @mycelows Yeah and loved that movie and that character :-)

  • how the fuck is this thing supposed to ride a bike? it has no eyes.

  • @mickeymouse14 It's basically a disembodied electronic brain, so yeah, it can't ride a bike.

  • when this sings they added an autotune effect to the voice! :D

  • Sounds like Chris from Family Guy.

  • Boys Noize.

  • @Glutenovsky He sampled this ? It indeed sounds like one of the voices he uses in lots of his songs

  • @exeanimator Sample or reproduction, but the sure thing is that it inspired him.

  • Mistress Hala'Dama, unit has an inquiry.

Do these units have a soul?

  • thats a pretty fancy geth

  • WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY A GAME OF CHESS?

  • @PoisonInc I'm afraid I can't let you do that...

  • Terrifying.

  • ah, so this is why Bonzi Buddy sang that "Daisy" song...

  • capitol T to the rippy

  • This is Miku Hatsune's great grandfather.

  • does anybody else find this kinda cute?

  • @DarkCorkyxx13 Ever watch Terminator? This is scary shit...

  • is Oz a cat??????????

  • 0:56 I'm HALf crazy, all for the love of you...

  • Is their and Emulator for this voice?

  • I remember a demonstration of this song on an IBM 360 or 7094 computer at UCLA at an open house in 1967. There was a demonstration of this song in an Irish accent and I forgot what the other accent was.

  • Q-Bert says '$%^&*#!!!!!'

  • They should program computers to sing this while their shutting off, slowly

  • @Mr42andaSn33kyAlien All done :D

  • I dont recognize that tone nor the voice what is it?

  • Kinda sounds like a male version of GLAdoS

  • Daisy was the song song during the death scene of the HAL 9000.

  • And thus "Autotune the News" was born.

  • How did they do this?

  • Thumbs up if you wish that that voice is on Speakonia.

  • I'm going to try and sing that when I'm dying. XD

  • if i can understand what is this thing saying, i will be a computer man

  • Even though we have such advanced technology (and I use a whole lot of it), hearing this computer both fascinates and utterly scares the hell out of me!

  • how old is this recording? its amazing

  • DAISY BELL

  • IM FUCKING SCARED SHIT GLAdos

  • they should do a remix w/ T-Pain :D

  • @sanderrodijk PC? o.O

  • @lazzer408 yes

    stil??

  • @sanderrodijk First, this isn't a PC, this was simply a computer. Second, I am sure it would still work, as it was so simplistic

  • so creepy

  • reminds me to my first C= Amiga 500 experiences.

Text-to-speech programm on Workbench1.2 disk sounds similiar in 1985

and even 100times better then microsoft sam does it in the 21 century.

  • To be, or not to be, that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous fortune, Or to take arms against a sea of troubles And by opposing end them. To die—to sleep, No more; and by a sleep to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to: 'tis a consummation Devoutly to be wish'd. To die, to sleep; William Shakespeare's Hamlet
  • 1 dislike? Must be Dave waiting for the pod bay door's to open.

  • the on dislike must be HAL 9000

  • is this steven hawking's voice?

  • We get it, he saw the friggin cat!

  • sounds a little bit like bruce lee

  • It sounds like a guy stuffing marshmellows in his mouth!

  • the song sounds like it would be some good creepy music for a videogame or something.

  • LADIES AND MENTLEGEN.

  • Sadly, you didn't even have a picture of the real computer.

  • its using auto tune when its singing

  • @xXDNarutoXD This song is gonna be the next big pop/rap hit,I guarantee it.

  • microsoft sam talks in a monotone. this talks in a more human like way

  • 00:12

Mr. Watson: What the fuck do you want, COMPUTER!?

  • The theme of AI technology, the first bit of art ever to be written into their mind by man

  • Damn that's must be Stephen Hawkings brother or something

  • Microsoft Sam ain't got shit on this!

  • LOL when he says 'Incidentally, synthesising music on a computer is almost as formidable as making a computer talk.' We can now make computers do that easily.

  • Programming music is much easier nowadays than then, thanks to MIDI.

I wonder what the people who made this recording would think if they heard this clip from fifty years later: QM7XylR4LNg

  • The song makes me think of R2-D2 picking flowers xD

  • @DeathSlayer2 Not sure why that made me crack up but your post was a win, sir ^.^

And yeah for some reason I can totally see it too... R2-D2 in a quiet meadow picking flowers... strange...

  • 8 bits encoding ?

  • dang the singing was so good it was creepy

    he saw the cat

  • @pancakewafflebacon i remixed that song xD

  • nice

  • you'll find erasing this vid very difficult, I can't allow you to do that. LOLerskates

  • when you try to turn this computer off it tells you "I can't let you do that dave"

  • @Fpockets lol one day technology will take over the world

  • @lilmissfab96 probably, ya

  • @Fpockets lol u read that book? the computer book the part where it said i cant let you do that dave

  • In the future all music will sound like this.

  • ROFL!!!

  • LMAO!

  • Eh, not really.

  • Great! Better how Microsoft Sam.

  • Microsoft Sam sucks so much that a 40-years old computer can do better than it!

  • It sounds like Yogi Yorgesson. " I Yust Go Nuts At Christmas"

  • The funny thing is that this sounds more realistic than Microsoft Sam.

  • @DrByrthfood2 HAHA yes. I noticed that when I came across this recording years ago. There is much to be said about making any sort of software, or device, more complicated than it needs to be despite not being able to make it work very well.

  • @DrByrthfood2 wt-?

  • @DrByrthfood2 Sure! And I don't think M$ Sam can ever sing.

  • The first part is from hamlet. The second is what spawned the greatest scene from one of the greatest movies of all time 2001 A space oddessey

  • "The second is what spawned the greatest scene from one of the greatest movies of all time 2001 A space oddessey(sic) " - punker

Dang straight ! HAL 9000 couldn`t sing worth sh%$. They shoulda shut him down to ACDCs "Ball Breaker" xD!!!

  • I would certainly be awesome if this type of voice was downloadable on the internet! =D

  • Hello Ladies and Gentlemen!

  • Amazing how far we have come from this era.

  • Yep. Now we make computers sing "I'm Too Sexy". QM7XylR4LNg
