@HiBillHere with any snake u risk gettin bit but corn snakes are normaly quite docile. i've got 5 and never been bitten by any of them. Some1 on these comments sail a red tail boa would be a good 1st snake but i wouldn't recomend it due to the high temp and humidity it needs. i'd say corn snake, Kingsnake or milk snake would be a good 1st pet snake.

I had a female snow corn snake for my first snake too, back in 2004. Good choice for a pet. My snake was really sweet. I still miss her sometimes. Did you pick a name for yours yet?

@whatscrakn101 Most use tiny baby mice called "pinkies". I got my corn when he was just a month or two old, only about 11 inches long. He loved getting his weekly pinky. Now he gets a bi-weekly rattie. :)

You can also get these kind of "sausages" in various sizes that have the consistency of a mouse's belly (ie, not firm like sausage for humans).

Choosing between a ball (or, royal) python & corn 4 1st snake, remember that sometimes Royals are very bad about refusing to eat. I had 1 go over 9 months without eating, drove me nuts, & I was pretty experienced with snakes. You're better off with a corn.

@hNgVIDIOS corn snake. Pythons don't seem very safe for a young person. Corn snakes almost never bite unless it feels extremely unsafe but they are very calm by nature, even if they do bite it doesn't hurt because their teeth are pretty much harmless in fact biting someone might actually make their teeth fall out which is why they don't like to bite. and they have no venom so no worries about getting poisoned.

@jellyjoe3 A) do you have a heat source of any kind for your snake? B) make sure your snake is active: handle it, take it out of its cage and let it exercise, ect. C) Try giving your snake a variety of different foods (depending on what kind of snake it is): mice, fish,frogs ect. If your snake still isn't eating, contact a vet, because your snake might be sick.

@jellyjoe3 One trick that never failed me was sticking a needle into the pinkys head, then giving the head a little squeeze till the brain juice leaks out a little. For some reason that changed the snakes reaction to the pinky and she gobbled them all right up!
