Hey Elliot, I've watched a lot of your deadlift videos and I really dig what you're saying. Could you maybe talk a little about what a deadlift day workout actually looks like for you? Sets/reps, rest, assistance work, etc...
elliot have u ever been injured in the back with the deadlift?cause many powerlifters do and since u r a champion strongman i was wondering if u did since u are training for so long
The guy at the end does that because he has long arms/legs and a short torso. They have a tendency to try and offload their "relatively" weak legs to favor their "relatively" strong back. Long torso'd people do the opposite. It's best for the long torso'd to work on strengthening their back/abs and for the short torso'd to work on those hamstrings/glutes.
Thanks for these videos much appreciated, I like to think I do 90% of this already as I think without the leg and hip drive I know the strain it puts my lower back on and feels un-natural. I'm Currently stuck on 160kg x4 @ 83kg for the last month just cant get that 5th rep ever.
i just entered my first powerlifting competition for june. Need all the help i can get so thanks for this video series. im about to watch them all right now.
Great vid Elliot.. the tutorial is awesome as well. I wanted to know, what´s the difference between the Roman deadlifts and regular deadlifts, what benefits does each have.... and secondly, I regularly deadlift using my left hand over and my right hand under the bar, should this be switch ever so often, am I creating some type of muscular imbalance due to this?
hey elliot, it's me again, i made another vid today i did 405lb and i think my form is better now but could still use some more improvement, i managed to lock it out but i had to drop it right away because 2 calluses ripped and it hurt like hell, thanks again for everything elliot
@tippmann98ACTEclark a lot better... 2 things. first, get set and then do the move, too much bouncing around before getting set and pulling... then "show your chest off" earlier in the move, your upper back is rounding just a little too much. Keep up the great work kid!
yo elliott i posted a posted a video response of my deadlift form from 1 year ago, my form is much better but i bet you could give me and others a few tips on form n stuff
@zloyhimik pretty damned good!! not much to say except work on finding your groove and greasing it... as the weight gets heavier you may find some more challenges.
Noticed the guy who (has a little trouble with the lockout just at the top) after your deadlift video 8:36 or so isn't flexing his triceps hard which I think is the only thing stopping the hips from locking in a full motion, meaning thats why he does that lean back move.
Far out mate! thanks so much for these videos, i realised i was doing everything wrong after and just got back from the gym and deadlifitng. last week i was DLin 230, after checking my form with your videos today i managed to do 270! made a huge difference
@jreily88 if your tall and tight i would start with blocks and RDL's you should check out my buddy vinces deadlifting... he is 6'6 and pulls with a narrow base, hes a beast. i just added his latest video to my favorites so you can go look.
Thanks for taking time to critique my deadlift, Sir, really appreciate it. I'll keep you posted on any improvements with my deadlift for sure. oh, I sink my butt lower at the start of the movement because I can brace more compared to starting the movement with my butt positioned a little bit higher.
Very informative, thanks Elliot. I find it really helpful to see poor technique in addition to proper movements; helps drill home the point. Would love to similar videos for both the bench and squat. Nice work!
i was deadlifting in the gym today doing like 6 reps with 308lbs and a guy at my gym came over and started asking me about my max's ( 374 deadlift, 225 bench and 264 squat: my squat needs work ) the guy asked if i'd ever concidered competing in natural powerlifting, i'm a 175lb 16 year old at 5'10 , what do you guys think ?
Great Info Elliot, Would love to record my Deadlifts but would feel like bit of a giant ego boosting twat, Might have to ignore everyone and just do it, Who doesn`t want to see how there form is
@strengthcamp you were talking about the importance of postural allignment and the deadlift. i have that gorilla and donald duck shit u were talking about in previous videos.. what excercises should i do to fix this?
Im a fb coach and we use deadlift as you should playing fb. I was wondering if you could take a look at some of our videos and tell me if im on the right track the way im telling them to deadlift. They range from 9th graders to 11th graders. Id really appreciate it because i follow you alot you know what your talkin about and it would be great to get your advice on our strength and conditioning program. The youtube page is ruggedram73. It would be great to have you opinion.
@LTMagic21 I did watch em i watch every video he puts out along with alot of other strength and conditioning professionals. thats why i was wondering if he could take a quick look because hes a professional and he might be able to see something im missing thats all. Hes been in this business alot longer then me
In an old email you had a link to a LHM workout you did for your crew written on a whiteboard. You mentioned in that video that a goal for your clients was to Deadlift and Squat 2X their BW and Bench their BW 10 times (I got this right, right?). My max DL back then was 355 (at 200lb, I am a little chubby). Now it is 455lb (still at 200lb) which clears that metric. YES!!! Hoping to clear 500lb by the end of the year. Still working on the other 2 though lol. GREAT video series, THANKS!!!
i really appreciate you reviewing my video elliot, i hadn't even realized how bad my form was until i saw it, tomorrow i'm going to record myself doing it again except i'm going to use much better form and work on everything all around
yo Elliot, Love this vid really helped me understand better. I have been one of the guys straightening the legs before the lift. gonna work on that knee drive and the 20 degree angle through the lift. thanks
What a great video dude.I stand with my feet shoulder length apart.and I never learn back as well. All you gotta do is keep practicing. :-D

Now, if you are really tall, like me, is it best to either take a really wide stance (sumo style) or lift off of blocks?
