  • Including myself we are raged by teddybearz4me's comment There are specific times when you should clap and "holler" and such during performances but it varies on the music so the "proper etiquette" doesn't apply to ANY performance. I mean during solos, you clap and holler for the solo and i believe this performance with everyone cheering is quite nice, it keeps the performers motivated and they're happy to know the audience is enjoying it.

  • @teddybearz4me just shut up. Maybe back in Hawaii they don't have to be f***** quiet during the performance

  • I wish I knew how to hula dance.. But thats second on my list. Does anyone know where I can find someone to teach me Romani dancing?? General FL/GA area would be best x3

  • GREAT VIDEO!! MAHALO FOR SHARING! @teddybearz4me EDUCATE YOURSELF IN POLYNESIAN PERFORMANCE AND DANCE!

  • ok fisrt off that was amazing i loved it and i think i shall add dancing like that to my list all those who disliked really need to fix there lifes

  • i love this song and the dance is so beautiful! man i wish i knew how to hula. the culture is so amazing!

  • the two little girls in the center are sooo cute

  • Beautiful... my mouth was open all the time.o:

  • And btw, I love the dance, they did a fantastic job, it was awesome and yes, definitly the best on youtube, but it is a tribute song and dance to the land and spirit of Hawaii which deserves people being respectful during it....Like The National Anthem or Pledge of Alligience.....cheers applause and shouting is just not appropriate till its done....

  • @teddybearz4me I know that alot of people have replied but you've got to realize that this isn't the same thing as signing the anthem and such. this song/dance is not "serious." i mean you could say that its just how they show their spirit with the dancers.

  • @teddybearz4me ...really you need to educate yourself on Polynesian dancing. That hooping and hollering you are so disappointed in, is in fact a celebration and encouragement from the dancers/leaders/tutors.

You may mean well....but you have it all wrong. Also ....feel the need to add, this is not a professional video, it is a mother taking a vid of her daughter...so any noise you hear from the camerawoman is not heard by anyone.

  • Comment removed

  • @teddybearz4me you are an idiot. you know nothing about Polynesian performances or dancing. Stop commenting on something you are NOT informed about and touting your kids musical programmes makes you seem even more ignorant.

You dont get it......I stated that it was a celebration and encouragement, shouting....to show enjoyment, whether you think it is disrespectful is moot....because it isnt.....If you are going to comment, please educate yourself.

  • @teddybearz4me I doubt you've ever been to Hawaii....

    This isn't like a public school choir/ orchestra/band performance...

  • @teddybearz4me I was going to add, too, that although I am not a dancer by any stretch of the imagination, I am a musician and I have also acted and I can tell you from experience that when we're up there on that stage and we perceive nothing coming from the audience...it's very discouraging. It makes us think that maybe we've done something wrong or we're not very good or you just don't like us. On the other hand, when we receive such feedback as cheers and (cont'd)...

  • @teddybearz4me "hooping and hollaring", as you say--and thank you very much, I hadn't heard that term "hooping and hollering" in a long time. LOL I thought my family and a few people I knew were the only ones who used that!--when we get that kind of feedback it is encouraging and we feed off of the audience's energy. So, no positive feedback coming from the audience? The performance will probably suffer. Lots of positive feedback--aka "hooping and hollering"--probably a great performance.

  • @teddybearz4me Perhaps what they mean by "remain quiet" is that people shouldn't do some of the following during the performance: 1. Talk amongst themselves. 2. Talk on their cell phones. 3. Get up and/or walk around during the performance. 4. Keep a crying child in the auditorium during the performance. 5. Shout derogatory remarks and/or heckle.

These are just a few examples of what not to do. But I'm sure shouting encouragement to the performers would be perfectly okay.

  • @teddybearz4me how is it disrespectful?? if no one was cheering during it i bet they might of been discouraged they those ppl just love seeing thier daughters or friends dancing and having fun!! if no one cheering during them dancing then they were disintereseted but cant u just have and just cheer them on for how great they r how did this video became a arugument on cheering during kids dancing?? retards

  • @teddybearz4me obviously you arenʻt hawaiian. so you wouldnʻt kno. it is encouragement and as a hula dancer myself, if i didnʻt hear the chi-hoooo i normally get from my ohana i think I havenʻt made them proud. go back to your cat videos, you haole.

  • @teddybearz4me I have nothing against that but now theres alot of arguing so thanks ;P and honestly,, thats what everyone does because i've actually lived in Hawaii, and this is what they do no matter whatt, because that is how they show their pride in their children and music,, your children are probolly in like hip hop or ballet welll thats a whole different storyy! And it's very rude how your just instantly saying it's disrespectful when you dont even know why their doing itt!!!! Peace

  • Great choreography! job well done!

  • this is by far the best video ive seen usin the he mele no lilo song and dance thaaanks alot i got a item for my parents wedding lol

  • That guy is very graceful, I always thought of this as more of a women's dance but he did very well. Very beautiful all around.

  • Beautiful

  • the little girl is getting lost lol... but she looks so cute ^_^

  • I am doing this dance with some friends for a competition in june. Cant wait!!

  • Wow, it's so fluid. Really beautiful.

  • I rember doing this for 3rd grade mayday on Oahu i had so muchhhhhhhh fun :)

  • So adorable! The little girls do better than I would!

  • I agree with DaemonicBlackCat when she said "most traditional dances use general meanings for specific movement so that the choreographer can have freedom with their interpretation of what is being relayed by song and dance. There is no right or wrong way."

I think you did an excellent job and we are learning this dance from your video. Thank you for sharing

  • I take hula, and this is amazing!

haha I always wanted to learn this dance but my teacher says Im too old xP

  • @PrincessSearrah ..... I dont think you would be too old Searrah. I am 47 this year and i am doing it with my girls whose ages range from16 to 58 ... we think its a fun and pretty dance to do that children in our audiences will recognise the music from Lilo and Stitch and really enjoy it

  • that was so kute :))

  • This is legit the cutest thing! :D

  • mum would i be in the group sitting

  • omg i can see my sister

  • That does it, I'm moving to Hawaii one day even if it kills me ._.

  • i can't wait

  • also if anyone can tell me what this song is about it would be very appreciated=)

  • @masterskellington93 He Mele no Lilo :)

  • @masterskellington93 Look up Lilo and Stitch - Main Title (He Mele No Lilo)

Its not my video, but it has the english translation to the song.

  • i like the guy in the black shorts he is really into it =P

  • just great no ather words

  • there cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Lol, it's very cute and coordinate.:3

  • i love this song! for my brother's wedding, my cousins and i put together a lot of polynesian dances and one of them was a hawaiian dance to this song. so this songs always brings back lots of fun memories. and i thought the little kids in this were so cute

  • is that real hawaii or just a playing?

  • I was thinking about all the rude comments I read and started thinking about one of the "extras" that was on Lilo and Stitch. I remembered something that Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu said,"How grand it is for somebody else to love something of someone else's culture. I think it's a beautiful thing." You can say what you want about "selling out" to the movie but many of us would have not seen the true beauty of the hula if not for this movie.

  • superbe, j'adore

  • The Keiki were very U'i. Kupaianaha! Well done.

For those of you who do dance Hula please don't criticise. As a Hula Haumana to another Hula Haumana we are taught

A 'Ohe Pau Ka Ike I Ka Halau Ho'okahi - All knowledge is not taught in the same school. These words I believe were the words of Uncle George Naope.

  • I love this song and my 2 yr old who wants to watch "Stitch" all day as encouraged my love for the hula. I think the Hawaiian culture is beautiful. This hula might not be up to a "seasoned" Hula dancers taste but I think its great. Why be so worried that people are not "performing" everything correctly instead of being happy that people want to try and learn a part of your culture.

  • @Txsouthrngrl Well said much Mahalos

  • Very wonderful video and I like their dancing very much, keep up the good work.

  • hehe. the real lilo & stitch. That rocks!

  • I'm agreeing with rickyfan3956; put up or shut up.

If they are doing it so badly, how about you make a video doing it "the correct way" and upload it to show everyone.

  • i Thouqht Men Were Not Suppose To Hula Dance ; Oh Well He's Awsome !

  • @Babeeqirl691 Kane or Men can Hula. Back in ancient times only men were allowed to dance hula.

  • so pretty. I wish i could do that. I went to this laua when i visitied hawaii, and the girls were so gracful, then we took the back road and found this little shrimp place and snow cone place, the town looked so little, it was in the middle of no where, but the drive that day was amazing, just seeing hawaii, not the touristy stuff, but the real stuff that makes it beautiful. the small places, getting a snow cone, having shrimp, enjoying the weather. hawaii is amaazing.

  • i thought it was cute.expecially for there first time.if you dont like it dont comment and talk shit bout little kids thee fukk.?

  • ugh the guy in the front bothers me but anyways awesome video!!

  • the two little ones in the middle r too cute

  • why are the people so harsh. im hawaiian and i see nothing wrong with kids dancing to this song.

im really jealous of that lady hair on the far right in the front. xD

  • aww, nice job. im so jealousss....

    :D

  • guys made use of the whole song ...very cool!

  • I think you gals and guy did a good job. I am hawaiian and a hula dancer on my own from maui. Every one has their own way of dancing hula to the same song. Any hula dancer knows this for all kumus and kapunas has their own style and way. Much mahalo to these dancers for their hula and i think they did a wonderful job.keep up the good work

  • i loved this video! it's gonna be one of my favorites now

    lol

  • I liiiike it :D

  • I think he's the instructor or teacher

  • @KiMMyRocker007 wow...

  • Very well done to everyone in this dance!

  • You guys keep up your good work and know that there are Hawaiians out here rooting you guys on!! Aloha!! Onipa'a!!!

  • I enjoyed this performance. :) I give these guys credit for their performance. Here's what I thought was nice: sweet children willing to learn to dance hula and doing their best...their discipline was evident on the stage; nice, respectful costumes with NO bare midriffs...in fact they are pa'u tops and skirts, which is the traditional hula kahiko dancewear; their aloha spirit...it shined through their performance!! That is to say a few. I just enjoyed it. :) to be continued

  • I love they way they Hula especially the guy in the center..hmm is he the instructor for this class? Anyways they were all great.

  • Yep >> us americans tend to do that. Take things that aren't ours, and somehow convince everyone it is. lol

  • ^.^ Very excellent, I thought the little ones did very well for their first time, and kept pace with the song, It's hard to keep up with >> and I wore shorts lol XD which accordingly so is easily to dance in then a hula skirt..>> Don't ask.

  • You wore a hula skirt???

  • ese baile me encanta io bailo hawaiano y7 esa coreografia nos pucieron

  • i really want to learn some hawaiian dance! i'd love to see how hula would look mixed with belly dancing!

  • i know how to do hula

  • Lucky I would love to learn.

  • i would to T.T

  • Yes! I love it! Mostly in movies or stuff ppl put on here have ppl just swaying their hips and hands! Out this show its more than that! I LOVE BEING MIXED WIT HAWAIIAN thanks!

  • I love your guys footwork. Amazing dance. Keep it up u guys!!!=D (oNe LoVe)=)

  • it's very beautiful, thanks for showing on the net good dances like that, it saves us from some dances which are atrocious representations of how we dance...

    thanks !

    Mareva

  • I've learned it! beautiful dance!

  • lol there hawaiin dancing was mostly swaying but hawaiin dancing has more than swaying in it

  • well hula is really mostly about swaying your hips and telling a story with your movements

  • @raesholiday Um no. Hula isn't always about swaying your hips there are more movents that go in to dancing hula. Kaholos or swaying rather as you put it is a basic step in Hula.

  • @Kaenaeight0eight Yeah, the dancing tells the story of the song

  • I live in Hawaii now, and its great. But not everything is like how people think it is. All cultures have their black spots, and trust me, I've seen them. But. Its still good to be here. I love my Hawaiian friends.

  • I think the Hawaiian culture is absolutely beautiful. I have never been to Hawaii but i do have such love and respect for the people and their culture. One day i would love to learn how to dance like the Hawaiians.

  • @melcurll If you ever decide to come to Hawai'i I will bring to one of my Hula practices.

  • magnífico, esplêndido, perfect, very well!!!

  • i wish i could dance like that!!

  • So do I...these kids did an incredible job!

their instructor should move to the side though :P

  • Actually, I think he was off to the side. I think the camera angle from where the person filming this made it look like he was more in front.

  • To jest po prostu świetne :D

  • quiero aprender portugués!!!!!

  • okay Hopopp69? we were not illegally annexed by America. you better get your facts straight before you start pointing fingers. (and dont even think about accusing me of being white and not understanding, i was born and raised on the islands)

  • this is really interesting culture

    its so beautiful!

  • you are so right. i totally respect the hawiian culture. it's very beautiful.

  • dude that's awesome did it take along time to learn it?

  • Ohh this is awesome! I watched this about 6 times, literally! Although i would love to learn how to hula, they sadly don't have it where i live, but i am taking belly dancing instead, and i am hoping it will be equally enjoyable and fun!

  • ouch! that was nasty.

    and uncalled for.

Please explain how this dance is insulting to "your" culture?

As the tutors are Hawaiian and Tahitian Maori...and both were taught repectively from their homelands..Im sure they will wait with baited breath as to your wisdom :-)

Do you think the age (5-16) and the fact that they had JUST learnt this dance a couple of weeks prior had a lot to do with them not performing to your high standards?

    Thanks anyway Matenga tutai :-D

  • I really wish all those on here who are deriding those who are seriously trying to learn hula and saying they didn't do it "the correct way", I wish those same people would just put up a video already and show us "the correct way". They seem to imply that they, alone, know "the correct way". But you know what? The proof is in the pudding. They need to put up a video and show those of us not in the know "the correct way."

As for me, I think the kids and their dance class did a great job!

  • @rickyfan3956 its true! i've been looking for "the correct video" for 3 days!!! hours and hours of looking! someone needs to post a video of the "correct way"!!

  • @rickyfan3956 i like that term you used, "the proof is in the pudding" haha thats so clever, never heard that one before lol think imma start using it :)

  • @NymphadoraBeeWolf I'm surprised you never heard that before. The original phrase is "the proof of the pudding is in the eating." It means that the true value or quality of something can only be judged when it's put to use. (from askyahoo.com) Most of those people who claim to know "the correct way" also claim to be able to do it "the correct way". So, lets see them put up a video of themselves doing it "the correct way" and we'll judge the results.

  • @rickyfan3956 very true, i wish i could hula like so many talented people, such a rich and fascinating culture, i have been trying to convince my family that we should move from chilly canada to sunny and tropical hawaii, maui specifically, but they won't budge lol

  • sheesh...nevermind, I just looked at your page. 14yo...

Baby when you have lived a wee bit longer you will understand a wee bit more about being Polynesian and having respect for other peoples accomplishments and applauding that, not thinking you are above it. Not very polynesian at all. Talk more with your elders and they hopefully will show you to be a little more thoughtful.

Live proudly and love long little one.

remember ugly is as ugly does.

  • the hell you know about Polynesian? if you knew shit about your "elders" you'd know there are very strict protocol to performing certain chants, dances, etc.. you want to talk about respect? How is it respect to take a sacred OLI (chant) about KING KALAKAUA (the last King of Hawai'i, before our nation was illegally annexed by America), turn it into a Disney song and entitle it He Mele no Lilo (A Song for Lilo)?? do you know how disrespectful that is on so many levels?

  • Take it out on the person who sold the song to Disney.

I know these tutors paid homage to the song that the kids love.

I dont think it is nescessary to be nasty to a bunch of little kids, ready and willing to learn the lovely art of Hawaiian dance.

I dont need to prove my polynesian status to a brainfart on youtube.

Good luck to your cause :-)

  • Wow, that dude has a huge freakin' chip on his shoulder, doesn't he? Sorry you had to put up with that, but I think you handled it intelligently.
