@DimitrisD007 Sorry dude , but there is no competition. Daniel Craig is the best. His interpretation of james bond is far superior. Pierce Brosnan played to much of a comical james bond IMO.
That "The Spy Who Loved Me" submarine scene is controversial because Anya acts all scared and surprised like any normal person would be when you drive a car randomly into the ocean... minutes later... she tactically takes out the enemy sub using the Lotus' smoke screen and an underwater land mine which surprises Bond. She then claims that she stole the blueprints for that car 2 years ago. Hmm.
I think that when Blofeld is not seen, when all you see is him stroking his cat, or you only hear his voice he's much more threatening. Mainly because he could be anybody. Not knowing who the enemy truly is, makes it that much more threatening
i love these insights and these scenes are great, i think the skiing scenes in ohmss were brilliant and they definitely started a great trend of chases in the snow!
@999GHz yer sorry about that just realised that that day my headphones were not fully in and broken. This gave the music a disco, distortionat sound that was the reason for me not liking this song. I did not mean to cause offense simply expressing an opinion.
I've seen every Bond, most many times and am still surprised at the brief scene that was so good when Roger Moore played Bond. For Your Eyes Only, not one of the best but 2:44 - 3:16 is classic. The dummy coming out of the window at 3:12 was something rarely done. They must have been surprised it came out perfectly at the end of the scene, no way they timed that perfectly.
quick tip to w2dot...try to make your font text readable against the background,...also...try to give the viewer a chance to read the text...great collection otherwise.
The statement about Brosnan is totally subjective. I agree that GoldenEye was a good one, but mainly thanks to Famke Janssen and Alan Cumming. The World is not Enough (title taken from OHMSS) was, in my opinion, less than mediocre. A total waste of the great Robert Carlyle.
IMO it is the direction (except GE) of his films that lacked in substance. The whole package doesn't feel complete. And I do agree with you about TWINE - as a whole it is visually unspectacular, but looking at Brosnan alone, I think it's his second best performace
@expanding The World Is Not Enough would have been great if Denise Richards wasn't in it (No substance at all!). I really liked the film. "Tomorrow Never Dies" was ALMOST ruined by the hammy performance of Johnathan Pryce (Who wasn't a really effective villian), and the uselessness of Teri Hatcher (VERY WOODEN). Michelle Yeoh was excellent and held her own. "Die Another Day" was pretty cool too, especially when Halle Berry and Rosamound Pike had their fight scene. Goldeneye is classic.
Compared to the preceding "Moonraker", & "The spy who loved me" it's definitely a more serious tone. But compared to those kitschy plastic films almost anything is ;)) I think that's what he meant, that's my own opinion anyway.
I agree that they are cheesy compared to "For your eyes only", but still think that they are more serious than "Moonraker" & "The spy who loved me".
And on a unrelated note,
i like John Barry's soundtrack to the last films he did aswell & the only reason for why "For your eyes only" can't become a favorite of mine is the horrible soundtrack by Bill Conti, that ruins the scenes for me. Just compare the vibe in OHMSS with FYEO during the ski chases for instance.
I've got to say, the pre-title sequence of The Spy Who Loved Me is the best pre-title sequence of all Bond films. Not to mention this film is the best bond film of the 1970's.
I prefer his last 3 movies (FYEO, OP, AVTAK). They're far from masterpieces, but hey it's personal preference =)
What I think counts against TSWLM is that it is nearly identical to YOLT and MR (same director, coincidently...not). It is the best of the 3 clones and suits Moore's interpretation best. What's brilliant about TSWLM is Adam's set, the stunts, the car, Jaws and the setting. The plot, story and other characters, bleh
yeah i do agree with the locque thing. bond is a guy who if you piss him off, will have no sympathy for him - simple as that. you will lose against him.
Brosnan wasn't able to replicate his "Goldeneye" approach because that script was written with Dalton in mind. The other films found the Moore humor and campiness.
Exactly, he doesn't need the physical deformaties to make him menacing, just like Dominic Greene in Quantum of Solace. I don't really like Telly's Blofeld either, I don't have a real reason, but he's def got the best dialogue out of the 3 times he's shown himself
For #15 the best man one...this scene was actually from the bond BOOK live and let die... except Leiter was snooping and he wasn't getting married

I didn't really find Dent's death in cold blood, because he tried to kill him first and was working for Spectre, so really it's not that cold?
I don't think Bond really did ever kill anyone in cold blood.
As Scaramanga said "..the English don't think
it's sporting to kill in cold blood."

Majesty's service, For your eyes only and from russia with love are the best movies!

Moore was really excellent at the "badass killer" scene eg Locque and the tie on the Egyptian roof (TSWLM).
They should have given Roger more (Moore?) of those scenes and fewer silly jokes.

hey w2dot,

@w2dot tbh, i thought it was the least gripping
FixerSevScorch 1 year ago
The living daylights was the beginning of a new Bond (Dalton)
So, the other two MI6 agents seen (one killed, the other cut off from the exercise) were meant to reflect Roger Moore and George Lazenby.
