I think the difference between the 1976 and 1983 Bankrupt whistle is only the high pitched part plays, with the lower pitch added later.

That wasn't Chuck Woolery. It was part of the cue. However, that voice didn't find its way into the cue until around 1982-1983. Before that, it was just the whistle sound.

The human voices accompanying the slide whistles come from none other than the late-great Merv Griffin himself. Pat once mentioned this during an episode of Super Password he appeared on, in response to the sound technician playing the "Bankrupt" whistle instead of the buzzer when Pat gave a wrong guess to the (Password) puzzle.

Also, that "penalty space" quote at the end is pretty funny! My guess was that quote was what you might call a "ROLF-ism", is it not?
