I have a Petersen Publishing Ford book from 1970 and they refer to the SONHC 427 as "legendary".
I often wonder what would have happened if NASCAR had backed down on its ban for the SOHC the way it backed down on the Hemi - but then MOPAR was in deep financial difficulties and Ford wasn't.
Probably the ultimate in conventional mid 1960's car engineering - too bad Nascar killed it - I'm sure after the effort Ford put into is world beater GT-40 program that if they had had enough time they would have come up with a streetable production 427SOHC. Chalk one up for Nascar stupidity.
Its the loading process for the dyno - you bring the engine under a steady load at wide open throttle using the water brake on the dyno - then the dyno computer releases it to make the power pull.
Earl Wade knew just where to time the cams for maximum output, it was like a trade secret with him, you should look him up in Texas and try and get some input on that.
Just wondering, what were the cams timed at? is it something like retard the left cam 4 degrees and advance the right cam 4 degrees?
Only an 11.5:1 motor, I presume you didn't go higher for engine life.
AWESOME it's N/A! it's Chevy/Dodge's NASCAR fears all over again lol. The one dislike was problaby a driver from the late 60's when this engine was banned....wonder what would happen if ya used fuel injection
i wonder how much this thing would cost

I saw one of these on Ebay for $50,000 dollars. Is that really the price these sell for?

May I ask why you sometimes see a lagg when the throttle is applied? As it does here? I often see this with dyno sessions.

The dipstick tube is loose - nowhere to bolt it to on the dyno headers....so it wiggles around and "spits on them" at around 7000.....
