It's not fat. The bodies of Moray eels are just not that rigid. So when they lie down on the sea floor they kind of spread out.

Also, it's not a Conger Eel (at least it doesn't look like one). It has the characteristic "blow holes" of a moray eel and no pectoral fins (all "true eels" like the conger eel have pectoral fins).

It does look like it's on its last lap though.

@chris I agree. I don't think it has a lot of time left. It also looks like it has no teeth. Pretty old eel. In the days I was diving you didnt' want to run into a Moray. 1st dive I was face to face w/ 7'-9' Moray, looked like 12' when you are face to face w/ one & sure gets your heart racing! So do Barracuda cause they're unpredictable & have a mouth full of razor blades. (Like a Doberman Pinscher :) For me, there is nothing more exhilirating than diving! & yes great vid.
