Race is a natural phenomenon, but is a complicated one and has nothing to do with eugenics. Fortunately their is plenty of literature on how the biological and cultural phenomenon known as race occured through the process of evolution.

Eugenics is also misunderstood but it is a science BASED on evolution, not necessarily race.

there is absolutely no biological correlation between levels of melanin in your skin and any other physical characteristic.

if you are talking about kenyans and marathon running, or certain south east asians tribes and underwater diving abilities, or ashkenazi jews and inteligence, than obviously there is a correlation. but "race" as you understand it has nothing to do with it.

I think you're referring to the Lewontin fallacy (AWF Edwards 2003 'Human genetic diversity: Lewontins fallacy.' BioEssays, 25, 798-801. The variation is actually similar to that of dog breeds. Geneticists measure genetic diversity within a species by determining the average heterozygosity of the species genome, or the likelihood of its having more than one variant of any given gene. Humans have an average heterozygosity of around 0.7, whereas dogs is about 0.4.
