Thank you so much for answering me, and so quickly, too! What is RCA? I am aware of how I tend to get used to one version of the same piece. The first time I heard Rostropovich's interpretation of the Bach cello suites, I almost got confused because I was so used to Tortelier's! Any way, I suppose I like Anderson's also because my boyfriend plays in the same tempo. And anyway 2: It is a lovely piece!
RCA was, at one time, one of the largest electronic companies in the world. RCA Victor was its record label. It sold this label to Bertelsmann (BMG) some years ago. Lecuona recorded for RCA VIctor in 1927, 1928 and 1954. In response to the success of Tirino's recordings of this music, RCA--now BMG--went into its vaults and re-released all of its old Lecuona material onto CD.
I'm neither pianiste nor specialist, but I think it's too fast and should be somewhat "heavier". I like the version of "andersonip", speaks more to my heart. My boyfriend plays this piece wonderfully.
It's easy to get use to a particular version of a piece, especially if you have not heard some others. You might want to check out Lecuona's own performance of Gitanerias on RCA to see about the tempo.
how fast can ya play it?
