I have a question. Im a teenager & i just started to shave. When i do, the next morning, i already have hair growing. there r many & many ingrown hairs. I do wash my skin alot with a lufa for dead skins, but still i have ingrown hairs. I have both, ingrown hairs that come out then come in, & the one that comes out, comes in then get tuck in there. I have balck thik hair & really ghost white skin, Very HARD!
@kathyspears hey i love ur vids can i ask u sumfin?? I had an ingrown hair on my arm so i shaved over it but before that i scratched it to unloosen it an now there is a little scab over it and it is a little little bump!! Will the ingrown hair grow back or will it just grow back normally??? Please answer!!! Asap
@Sannah4Eva1 If you got the hair out, it will be fine (gone) when the scab falls off. If, on the other hand, the hair is still stuck under the skin, you need to get it out using a pair of tweezers. Good luck!
I am a woman and I get ingrown hair under my neck. I usually use a tweezer or little needle to get the hairs out that are turned in. I usually have a little bump - but i now have lots of marks/scarring from using the needle. What product/s can I use to get rid of the hairs. thanks
@bahachick242 You're not going to like this but electrolysis is the best bet for that. It is the ONLY hair removal that the FDA allows to be called permanent. If you are just looking for a quick fix, tweezing is it or waxing. But neither of those will help with the scarring. A retinoid will help with that, but really, after about 2 yrs the scars will be gone. Sorry. x
@MsMoonlight64 Don't feel bad as this is very common. You're going to have to get the hair out. I would bet that the hair that is buried is detached. They are the hardest to remove since they are not being push outward. Sometimes it requires lancing. You could try a sterile needle to make an opening, but you need to make it pretty big. As in, go in a little from the side and across then pull up to make a big cut. You might be best letting a doctor or nurse do this for you. :)
Hi Kathy ! Happy Anniversary I hope you have many more :)) Thank Goodness this is one topic I do not have many issues with ! I wanted to ask you a question though. I see women that have what appears to be circles around their neck ? I wonder what causes this ? I always thought perhaps they had lost alot of weight. But I don't really think that is the answer. So I appreciate any answer you might could come up with and is it reversible ? xo Susie ~
@sek4me Hi Susie! The circles are actually just wrinkles and sagging. Unfortunately, the neck shows aging quicker on many women because the skin is much thinner. Also, women usually take better care of their faces than their necks. I tell all my clients to include their neck and decollete when caring for their face. It can be improved with retinoid serums and peels. Kathy xo
@PoshPatootie Blondes do have lots more velus hair on the face. I have lots of clients who get their face waxed (I use a hard wax which doesn't lift skin) which works well. You can also do dermaplaning (can make your skin break out) which is very much like shaving with a scalpel. No, nothing you do above the skin will affect the thickness or amount of the hair. It just feels thicker cause they are all even. :)
Ah! the ingrown hairs coupled with the acne, how attractive!. I have had a problem with my moustache (as well as adult acne!) and had been bleaching it (I have a fair skintone) but then bought an epilator, and thought great! pluck the little horrors from their roots!. But, with my oily skin they started to come back ingrown :( I have just purchased some 2% Salicylic Acid Liquid from Paula's Choice. I cannot wait to use it if it helps with the oil, blackheads, pimples and ingrown hairs.
@loobsy1 Good! The salicylic should help. Paula's Choice is a good place to get straight forward products! The upper lip is very prone to breakouts after waxing or tweezing of any kind due to the stimulation to the sebaceous glands. I always apply a sulfur gel after waxing clients to prevent this. The salicylic should work! Kathy
Congratulations on your 10th Anniversary! Glad to hear that you didn't get caught in the stormy weather. We are approaching our 3rd Winter Storm here in Michigan. :) Annmarie
Hi Kathy! Your videos are so helpful! I was wondering what the best thing is to apply to the bikini area after shaving a large portion of hair. Is it best to moisturize the area with lotion/vitamin e oil or should you wipe it with something drying like a salicylic toner? Should you ever moisturize the bikini area?
@mgkimp It's fine to moisturize the bikini area with the rest of the body/legs. As for after shaving, I wouldn't worry so much about what to apply but just try to consistently exfoliate daily. Shaving is particularly bad for ingrowns because it cuts the hair with a sharp edge that easily grows back into the skin. If you find that exfoliation alone isn't enough, try something with salicylic acid. :)
I would NOT suggest sugar because that will promote bacterial infection if you dont wash it off.
Leave acids well alone.
There is no need for a hot towel if the hair is properly wet through (soft) before shaving.
Just my 2cents...

@lulululu133 ex-foliate with better product regular between shaves AND keep your skin moist with moisturisers (try vitE based moisturisers)

@lulululu133 oh, never ever dry shave, and never wet shave on dry hair using old razors (critical, change razor every 3rd shave)
