  • "I love the smell of Napalm in the morning" I hope that quote is going to be my senior quote XD

  • Apocalypse Now, 1979

Directed and produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Apocalypse Now was shot mostly in The Philippines, specifically in Baler, Zambales, and Laguna..

  • what is the song at 0:01 ????????????????

  • @PAINISCUPCAKESCHANNE It is "The End" by The Doors

  • @PAINISCUPCAKESCHANNE The end by The Doors

  • @jayin021 You may have not realised this but movies aren't always filmed where the movie's story is located.

  • Apocalypse Now (1979)

Vietnam scenes shot in Baler and Pagsanjan which is located in the Philippines..

I can't seem to understand why would they shot a scene in the Philippines and make it come out as if it was in Vietnam.. why not shot a real scene in Vietnam.? Why, because they are afraid of the Vietcongs..hell they should be more afraid by the Philippine Guirellas.

  • @jaynin021 Moron. You should read the top comments before spouting your mouth off. As wwuburg19 said, this is a modern (In the late 70's) retelling of "heart of darkness", using the current world situation of the time. Which was the Vietnam war. DUMB

  • @jaynin021 Maybe because we had just fought a war with North Vietnam, which we lost. Maybe because we didn't recognize the Socialist Republic of Vietnam as a country until 1995. Maybe because the United States wouldn't allow US Citizens into Vietnam.

You know, just a couple of reasons there.

  • That Indian chick was hot

  • Janet. Enkelvoud. Janetten in veelvoud. 'janetten' of 'janeten'? (..jan-eten.. ) Ergo; 'Janetten' is het ENIGE veelvoud voor 'janet'. ''t Is ook maar in Engeland dat de koning een rok draagt. Je reinste onzin zouden ze in Holland zeggen. GOD SAVES THE QUEEN, GOD etc

  • Wat, het janettending komt dichterbij.... Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.......................... PLEASE HELP ...===....

  • Well, actually I do not like the smell of gasoline in the morning. This is indeed better than the czarraibs.

  • dies is de end bjoetifoel fiend... (....) Kurtz. Kill and terminate Internet.

  • To terminate is, indeed, an extreme prejurisdiction. (RRL)

  • Ì do not think the copyright-holders of this movie like copy-butcheries. Get on.

  • I love the smmell of napalm in the morning...

    XD a classic

  • i watched this for you walter

  • @wwuburg19 my grandfather was in udt he said this movie the closes to nam

  • I've read a lot of disparaging comments about APOCALYPSE NOW because it's not factual. Short of a documentary, no film is factual... it's an interpretation of actions, thoughts, and feelings through a Director's prism. APOCALYPSE NOW isn't as realistic a "Vietnam War" as PLATOON, but in some ways it's more real. There was a certain insanity in Vietnam that APOCALYPSE NOW captures. Is it over-the-top? Yes. Is it horrible? Yes. It both sickens and entices -- attracts and repels.

  • 1:00 Wilhelm scream xD

  • press 5 for a free cup of coffee

  • wow Martin Sheen was only 38 here

  • This is an anti war film...but everytime I watch it, it motivates me to participate in war! God damn you hollywood! You have brain washed me into a deep desire to conduct war. I lust after it. I have always craved the glory of war! Deep down, I feel a strong love for mankind...yet at the same time I want to destroy it. Thank you sir! Fuck you and I love you!

  • @95dogface

I doubt if you could get your fat ass out of your computer chair anyway, so not a worry are you?. Typical Yank.

  • @stiglaa Aren't you a little high on your horse?

  • @KHollister67

I hope so, a better view seen from there than on the ground.

  • @stiglaa Well played.

  • @95dogface You have just summed up my thoughts exactly. Fuck you and I love you!...

  • I fucking hated the movie when it was over

last half an hour destroyed everything

  • I First saw this film on Cinemax when i was stoned lol, The Redux version, i quite enjoyed both cuts, and my dad saw this when it first came out back in 79, he passed away a year ago today...

  • War. What is it good for?

Nothing. Just wanton violence, death, and destruction.

  • its funny martin and charlie sheen starred in classic 'nam movies

  • In the fogg of the war you don't see ennemies or friends!!! Everything that moves you shoot at

  • Marlon looks and sounds like Jabba the Hut. Tragic.

  • @RManFlint Strange you say an epic roll was tragic because he was heavy.Maybe Brad Pitt wold have been less tragic for you.I hope you are under 30 or there is no excuse.

  • My momma loves you.

  • Fucking shit. And that killing of the buffalo too, yeah it's an actual ritual, but fucking too good to pass on putting into this torture movie hur? Fuck cunt of a film. I read all the comments and it fucking annoys me that from everything I still can't fucking point out what makes this film a "masterpiece", it's tasteless beyond belief. Maybe the fact it's a 1979 film has something to do with the narrow minded acceptance of the film's artistics or message, whatever it is, to be impressive. FUCK!

  • @Mixikyr it's a little something people tend to call opinion

  • @Mixikyr Maybe you'll understand when you're older, because from what I can tell from reading your comments, you're an immature, tasteless troll.

  • I just fucking watched the redux version of this fucking movie, and FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON it fucking made no sense random fucking scenes fucking boring ass shit FUCK THIS MOVIE FUCKKKKKKING WASTED 3 HOURS OF MY TIME. FUCKING SHIT, I'm fucking scouring the internet to find out what intellectual or philosophical point about the whole fucking movie did I miss, I must be from another universe. FUCK. I swear I'm gonna kill someone. FUCK YOU APOCALYPSE NOW. SHIT FUCK! FUCKKKKK!

  • @Mixikyr hmm... try when you're older.

  • you should add that this was inspired by Joseph Conrad's book Heart of Darkness, a Polish author, his real name was Józef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowsk check wiki :)

  • This movie wasn't meant to be factually correct in representing the Vietnam War, but actually followed Joseph Conrad's book The Heart of Darkness. It was meant to capture the essence of the war, not necessarily the facts. But i gotta say, I really hated watching the marathon that is the director's cut. it just never ends.

  • @wwuburg19 and that is just fucking perfect!

  • @wwuburg19 what i really hated was the ending.. loved all the rest though!!!

  • @wwuburg19....30 people agreed with you? Ya know this movie is one long trip, its like FEELING a novel, and experiancing a movie...I dont know how anyone can sit there watching the clock while this movie is playing, that'd be like watching the clock in the middle of a trip, like 'come on, when's this amazing feeling going to end already?' ..the only long scene in the redux was the scene in the french plantation and if you ask me it was one of the most important in the entire film.

  • @frnkvat While I would I totally agree that its length is essential to the experience, I don't really think that the french plantation scene should've been included. The scene was too much "tell" and not enough "show". It made the subtext too blatant and rid some of the ambiguity/subtlety of the message.

  • @wwuburg19 whats the normal edition like ?

  • Nobody reads Terzani's books abount Vietnam-war...

  • @wwuburg19 ironic because the books only about 80 pages

  • 2:34 = Me :)

  • porque carajos no la ponen completa, siendo que es ya una pelicula vieja.

  • Wow Martin Sheen was only 38 yrs old here

  • just wanted to say this yes a lot of people lost their cool in vietnam, and yes it was amazing but me and my grandpa both agree that the movie was over exaggerating people going insane like at the end. great movie but it had a rely disappointing ending in my opinion

  • This movie goes from Military - Physiological Thriller

  • if this movie is better then Pvt. Ryan like the top comment says then this movie will be awesome

  • Why in the world is the Tarzan's New York Adventure RELATED to this video?!

  • Platoon is better i think

  • @grimgrimdeath666 no, I don't think so. this movie was shot shortly after Vietnam, the Platoon was shot 11 years after the war was over, and is has Charlie freakin Sheen and Johnny Depp and all the stars... when you see them - you just see actors, not soldiers. Apocalypse was more authentic.

  • @PufferBluntman a guess so but still a very good moving film n very good soundtrack i thought it was fantastic :)

  • @grimgrimdeath666 I always thought Platoon soundtrack was a little bit cliche: Fortunate Son? White Rabbit? Yes, this is the 1960's WE GET IT. And don't let me started on the re-use of Ride of the Valkyries - I just can't stand that kind of post-modernism.

  • @grimgrimdeath666 NOT A CHANCE This is what movies should be

  • The Illusive Man is older than you think

  • RUN CHARLIE XD

  • I like this film. Vietnam war ...:(

  • the showed parts of this movie in jarhead lol

  • @8LiGhTs8 Jarhead reminds you of Full Metal Jacket.

  • But how many of you know what two books its based on, Quiz?? Micheal Hares book Dispatchers(best war novel, ever)and the classic 'Heart of Darkness,by Conrad. yes,Im a geek. I thought the main problem filming was Dennis Hopper was an asshole, and Brando refused to be on set with him,?

  • But how many of you know what two books its based on, Quiz?? Micheal Hares book Dispatchers(best war novel, ever)and the classic 'Heart of Darkness,by Conrad. yes,Im a geek.

  • @dianalee84 Quiz? thanks for answers tho, geek..lol..your no geek , smart man, remember that!!

  • Making this movie was an Apocalypse, do you know why? Well, because Marlon Brando showed up to the set overweight, Martin Sheen had a heart attack, and extreme weather destroying several expensive sets. Also, The release date of the film was delayed several times as Coppola struggled to both come up with an ending and edit the thousands of feet of footage he had shot. But all in all, this is one of the best war movies ever, which took workmanship and patience, and Coppola handled it well. :)

  • I like this movie but I don´t like the conclusion... basically states that USA didn´t win the war because was not brutal enough with the enemy. I dont believe this...

  • @fefe74e Umm? Welcome to the real world, dude.

  • did he say 'smells like victory'? its a bloody misquote.

  • name of the intro song on the trailer?

  • @pontuzzza The End by The Doors

  • so which one out of this actors when crazy after making this movie?

  • The original i would rate *** and half stars, its well paced, sheen's character is more believable. The only drawback is the overly dramatic ending, though it still has power. The redux? * and a half stars. It makes sheen's character unbelievable, stealing surf boards, getting the crew laid, smoking heroin?Ridiculous.Full metal jacket and the original apocalypse now are the only nam films worth watching.Platoon and hamburger hill are melodramatic, conventional, cheesy.Hamburger hill is a little better

  • @TheGatorfan93 I'm sorry but I have to disagree. All of those seemingly contradictory actions by a single person ensure that what the film has to say about the human condition resonates more powerfully. It's like when Lieutenant Kilgore uses Wagner to pump up his men to kill, but then puts the injured Vietnamese child and his mother on a helicopter and orders the pilot to get them to the hospital. The contradiction of how men can show terrible brutality and true empathy is what makes the film.

  • @cheerlessdarkndeadly I have no problem with that scene, but look for example in the original,it cuts after ''some day this war's gonna end'',there's a strong power when it seques to sheen's ''some day this war's gonna end''.But in redux,he steals a board,is laughing and goofing off like ''one of the boys''.Its adding scenes like that lose its power to me.Because then it goes back,to his ''someday this war's going to end'',and his back to his cold indifferent self.It doesn't work!

  • @TheGatorfan93 Uh, yeah, it kind of does actually. Take full metal jacket for example, when he's asked why he has his helmet say "Born to Kill" and at the same time, he wears a peace pin. The reason why they had Sheen play like one of the boys in that scene was to show the duality in mankind. How he can be so cold and so on, but he also has a sense of innocence. Because in a war movie, if the main character shows only one type of emotion, its boring. Everyone has their moments.

  • @Kite117 But joker's character was an average joe, that was the point. He uses symbols and sarcasm as a facade to distance himself from his reality, until the unpredictibilities of war give him no choice.Williard was a cold blooded assassin, near the breaking point.Williard's character in the original version showed ''only one type of emotion'',and isn't boring at all.If anything,it makes him more interesting and mysterious.

  • @TheGatorfan93 Well, I dont know about you, but mysterious seems to me to be over done and just boring. It's like the Escape From movies, like Escape from New York and L.A. both are terrible movies dont get me wrong, but that's all Kurt Russell's character was. A Hard ass that never showed compassion, but just worked for himself. In any case, though, Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket are both great movies, and are in my top favorites, so there really is no point in arguing haha

  • @Kite117 It wasn't overdone in the original version of apocalypse now.His character, was more IN character. The added scenes in redux, not only make williard look less believable, but the extra scenes destroy tension. Its as if coppola allowed cimino to edit his film!

  • WINNING FATHER!!!

  • first time i saw this it was exciting i love this movie my favorite line is i dont know where were going but one look at you and i know its gonna be hot

  • Kramer vs. Kramer may have won but Apocalypse Now is forever included in the masterpiece cause it take a generation to reflect on perfection that is Francis Ford Coppola's work. Goddam genius.

  • @TofuPenguin1 You said it.

  • Sheen had a heart attack filming this. Had to be intense.

  • I hope they remake this and Charlie does the role, might be pretty f'n good.

  • @ganj0r

Like father and son. At first, I honestly thought that was Charlie Sheen until I found out it was his father, Martin Sheen.

  • @ganj0r remake? are you serious?? haha

  • @ganj0r Bull f'n shit!!! This is the last movie anyone should remake. Remakes suck anyway.

  • @JohnACorp782 agreed, i hope they don't but IF they do, it better be fuckin Charlie in that shit, i bet he is the only person who could even come close to pulling it off.

  • @ganj0r On the other hand, Charlie kind of had his own version in Platoon, even though it wasn't as good as this.

  • @JohnACorp782 true, he was just a kid, now he's old and crazy enough to do a mean Willard. bonus points if Tom Berenger plays Kurtz.

  • @ganj0r Thinking it that way, best to just leave the whole thing.

  • awesome movie i made a music video using this movie this movie is my favourite!;D

  • "Come ti senti oggi, Jimmy?"

"Come il re dei figli di puttana, signore!"

  • Martin was only in his 30's here. You can tell Charlie his is son for sure

  • I hate how the old war movies made it look like soldiers were just undisciplined murderers. Well, thats Hollywood for you....

  • @Espeelover not really, old movies was glorefying wars and the heroes allways saving the day, this was the first movie ever to show the horrors of war allong with full metal jacket, they were bold and dared to show the ugly side of war.

  • winning

  • 30 years later and the world is still the same.

  • Terminate with extreme prejudice.

  • the best trailer in the world! makes me feel what it must have felt like when it first came out, fucking hell!

  • this trailer has all the great lines. leave somethin for the dinks/newbs.

  • Have you ever considered any real freedoms? Freedom from the opinion of others, from the opinion of yourself...

  • @brutus4693 It's a fantastic film. I read Heart of Darkness in my Comtemporary Literature class and watched the film. It really captures the essence of Conrad's work. @lumpyfishful The song is "The End" by the Doors.

  • I just read Heart of Darkness, and I really want to watch this now

  • i love the smell of napalm in the morning

  • An errand boy sent by grocery clerks....

  • @robtfdfbvv

    That's the truth!

  • Martin Sheen owns at Winning. Way more than Charlie.

  • What the music at 2:45 someone please reply

  • @lumpyfishful Black and Yelloowwwww

  • @lumpyfishful Suzi Q by credence clearwater revival

  • @alexcrabtreeusmc I checked i'm pretty sure it's not :(

  • "Dad almost died of a heart attack in the middle of making Apocalypse Now, the biggest movie of his life. It doesn't make you want to jump into that business."

    ~Charlie Sheen

  • i love when they were in the bamboo cage thing in the water then they had to play russan roulette

  • @robbykonevil That was the Deer Hunter

  • Watching those guys made me think... no wonder we lost that fucking war.

  • what's the song that plays at the very beginning?

  • @TheAccidentprone are you kidding? You don't know the first song that plays at the very begining? Look it up on Wikipedia next time. Inexcusable not knowing the first song was called "The End" by The Doors.

  • @TheAccidentprone "The End" by the Doors.

  • @michaeld5 thank you!

  • Thats Harrison Ford. Damn he is hecka young!!!

  • my people.....for all the reluctant warriors that didn't wanna go....but went the fuck anyway, anywhere, anyhow.....all gave some.....SOME GAVE ALL......

  • The guy who directed this film is also the same guy who directed Red Dawn!

  • @masterDevis Franics Ford Coppola directed Apocalypse Now.

John Milius is the director Red Dawn. Milius did work on the screenplay for Apocalypse Now.

  • Apocalypse Now isn't a war film. It's a film about the human condition. It is without a doubt, one of the best films ever made.

  • @packetcreeper amen! the reason people don't like it in my view is because they think it's supposed to be a war film in the style of Patton or Saving Private Ryant, this is a psychological film

  • Heart of Darkness

  • holy shit charlie sheen and martin sheen look exactly the fucking same....wtf.

  • @rustlerboi1052 well they are father and son after all.

  • @jdmifsud14 i know...but this is an insane resemblance.

  • @rustlerboi1052 out of the two of them, emilio estevez looks alot more like their dad than charlie does... just saying.... and yes, they are brothers.

  • @rustlerboi1052 whats even weirder is that later charlie would go on to star in another vietnam war movie, Platoon, which is almost as good as this

  • Saving Private Ryan may have been good, but there was a reason Shakespeare in love won. Private Ryan had the greatest effects ever and the most craziest intro ever! But it lacked a middle that was slow and Tom Hank really just played Tom Hanks. Apocalypse Now was breath taking and Martin Sheen had a heart attack for a reason filming this at 35. This movie is unbelievable master piece by Coppola which people doubted him to follow up on the Godfathers.

  • @TofuPenguin1 Saving Private Ryan was incredible.

I put Saving Private Ryan and Platoon as a tie for second best war flicks.

Tom Hanks was incredible in Saving Private Ryan.

It wasn't slow at all in the middle. They needed to slow it down in the middle for the audience to get to knwo the characters.

Apocalypse Now Was the best by far. Look at Harrison Ford he looks like a baby.

  • @TofuPenguin1 Apocalypse Now was better than Saving Private Ryan, but Saving Private Ryan deserved best picture also, the OSCARS LOVE SENTIMENTAL FILMS OVER MODERN CLASSICS

    Oscars screwed these films

    Citizen Kane

    Wizard of Oz

    A Clockwork Orange

    Taxi Driver

    APOCALYPSE NOW

    Raging Bull

    Goodfellas

  • @SuperHeroMania Yes and that's why I hold AFI as the highest movie governing body!

  • @SuperHeroMania you are soooooooooooooooooooooo right

  • @SuperHeroMania Inception.

  • @BenGriffithsReviews well, I'll have to disagree, I liked the Social Network a lot, though I very much enjoyed Inception

  • @SuperHeroMania Yeah, 2010 was generally a good year for movies.

  • @SuperHeroMania well, rocky was made the same year as taxi driver, so i beleive rocky did deserve to win best picture, and goodfellas was made the same year as dances with wolves which was an awesome epic, but i do agree with the rest of the films, the oscars did screw them.

  • @15secretstash given, I agree those winners were awesome, but Goodfellas and Taxi Driver, IMO, are my favorites of all time

  • @SuperHeroMania Who cares about the oscars? They asked one member of the academy why the Passion Of The Christ was snubbed and he said he never saw it. That movie was nothing short of brilliant and this politically correct dipshit never bothered to see it. Oscar is right up there with Nobel Peace prize. Meaningless.

  • @bitterclinger100 he probably skipped passion because he's too smart to believe in god YMMV

  • @MrJivePirate Whether or not you believe in God The Passion was a brilliant movie. A "smart" guy like you should be able to figure that out.

  • Does the phrase "gratuitous torture" mean anything to you?

  • @SuperHeroMania i have to disagree with you about this movie being better than Saving Private Ryan. This movie is good but is missing logic to it giving it a fairy tale sense with bigger than life characters. Saving Private Ryan expresses everyday people put in real world situations and makes it better. However i do feel this is a great movie and all the movies you listed are fantastic and deserve kudos.

  • @sckoutlaw Though you were spot on when comparing the two, but that does not exactly make Saving Private Ryan better. It makes it more relating and realistic, but it doesn't have the mystic nature, unpredictably cruel characters, and the sense of impending insanity that made Apocalypse Now a classic film that stands alone from most other anti war films. Saving Private Ryan is very close behind on my list though, Tom Hanks performance is unmatched with anybody else playing a soldier in war

  • @SuperHeroMania Yea true, and Apocalypse Now does gives off a very "Hollywood" approach to the film, which makes it an excellent classic, while Saving Private Ryan drives for a sense of realism. Now that i think about it, they are two different styles that probably shouldn't be compared.

  • @sckoutlaw agreed

  • @SuperHeroMania Also add Saving Private Ryan and Amadeus to that list Saving Private Ryan lost to Shakesphere in love and Amadeus lost to Rocky.

  • @FunAssFunProductions Amadeus actually won in 1984, and I sort of did add Saving Private Ryan lol

  • @TofuPenguin1 apocalypse now didnt win best picture either . . .

  • @getlikemc tru masterpieces never win Academy recognition.

  • @TofuPenguin1 yes apocalypse now is the greatest.. platoon is great too

my favorite is full metal jacket

  • @TofuPenguin1 And funny part is that all these doubters people, after all hit and up 'Godfather' got, they were like: "I always said this scenario has been a real boon!" or "I told ya!" and success is all their merit...)))

  • @TofuPenguin1 YEP!!!!
