Lovely video! I bought my geta in Kyoto , was hard to find them for some reason, it seems that not many people are wearing them. The front peg is in the middle as thats where you place your weight when you step, walking on the heel as in Western shoes is really jarring in geta! When you walk on the middle its like walking on a soft wooden floor isnt it.
I liked everything about this video. The shoes look very easy to make. To only thing being a challenge would be making the wooden sandal aprt myself, to make sure everything was the same size, length, etc.
The straps are beautiful. I love the music and traditional dance, singing drumming, everything! :)
If the thong part is made completely of natural fibers, when this shoe is unfit to wear anymore, ti will simply biodegrade. Wow! that is very nice! I want a pair for myself! :P
So cool! I'm trying to find myself a pair of Geta to go to an O-Bon festival at the Japanese garden and museum by where I live in August. I'm also trying to sew myself a yukata as well so let's see how this goes.....
@dagger09 It's easy. I can't put links here or I would leave the link. Just go to Google and put in the search words, "geta" and "purchase" or "order". I don't think you will find an actual store you can physically enter unless you are in "little Tokyo" in Los Angeles or something. But basically anyone can buy a pair if you have money and a debit or credit card.
I love the music you chose. It's really sad though, to think that Japan is slowly turning into a large city, and that such festivals aren't as popular as they once were. Well done.
It is....? Well...I must make a trip down there A.S.A.P. The city life is grand (even though I personally hate it), but it gets rid of excellent traditions and culture.

They are too small for your feet.

Traditionally Geta are 2 to 2.5 cm smaller than your foot. same with waraji. Don't ask me why.
