Oh wow, I have 3 fillings I need to get. This makes me nervous, so I'm going to get them next week! Has anyone ever had a black amalgam filling re-done to a white filling? I'm considering getting that one re-done, cause it's been aching on and off
i don't know why anyone would get black amalgam fillings. you wouldn't touch up a mahogany table with alot of white stuff so why fill a white tooth with alot of black stuff.
@parttimelaver Because this white shit is toxic. I can tell you what would happen when a dentist would just try to fill my teeth with this toxic stuff:
-Criminal prosecution by the state authorities and closing his office
-Drilling out this trash immediately and replacing it by dental amalgam
@TheOwlDaddy I don't know how they do things in your country but in the UK people get black fillings because they are cheaper, not because they are toxic. I heard that white composites were toxic but who cares if it means you have a nice looking tooth. I have enough problems to care. As far as i know, the dental industry would not be allowed to use white fillings if they were proven to be toxic. And if they are toxic, then why on earth haven't the dental industry discovered a new substance?
@parttimelaver In Germany you got silver paid by your medical insurance. Silver is not toxic but the white shit is. You really think this looks nice??? Imagine: A 40-year old man has his mouth full of that white shit fillings..... Anyone who believes that those are his natural teth? Everybody would think of crowns or dentures..... :( The composite industry covers the toxic effects up or denies them to make money and not to get sued. It's just making money with the vanity of some people..... :(
@TheOwlDaddy i have a temporary filling that is pure white and it doesn'nt look right, but the dentist usually has a colour chart to match the composie up to the colour of your tooth. Most composites blend into seemlessly to the orginal tooth. Having said that, my dentist will probably do a shit job when i go next week.
@TheOwlDaddy but at 27, my natural teeth are already an off white colour. The white filling i would be getting is not pearly white. Anybody you see with really white teeth over 20 has probably had their teeth capped. I'm not sure what point you are making but i will take your concerns about the toxicity of white fillings into consideration. But having had a black cavity for 3 years i don't want to get it filled with more black stuff. You know i'm sayin boss?
@TheOwlDaddy Composite isnt toxic, thats ridiculous. Amalgam is more toxic because of the mercury in it, and even that doesnt do you any harm. And another thing, amalgam cant be used for anterior tooth restoration, so composite is your best option. I do agree however that amalgam is stronger, and it lasts longer, but only in the more posterior teeth
@SKETCH730 It's not ridiculous, it's sad bad true. Composite contains more than 80 toxic substances like Formaldehyde or Bisphenole A. Nobody knows waht happens after the polymerisation of the material. And you can have crowns on your anterior teeth, it's better than the "chemical accident" from Minneapolis...... :)
@TheOwlDaddy You can, but having crowns means taking away more of the tooth, which is destructive. Dentists will always try and save as much of the tooth as possible, and if composite was deadly it would be banned
It is not "normal" to experience pain at the injection site or within the filling as stated in this presentation. Also, composites are inferior to amalgam or silver fillings relative to durability and fit after a short to intermediate period.
A fair representation of the "process" but this needs correction to be congruent with honesty.
so I thought composite filling were applyed in layers, the layer to protect the nerve then blue light then another layer of plastic, blue light then another layer ect, in the video it showed them squirting in the fiing material all at once like tooth past then hardening it. and I though it was hand mixed, not premixed in a crome "composite" syringe...is this realistic?
you wrote 4 months ago but if your interested, composites are applied in layers to the point that the setting light only penetrates a defined thickness so for bigger fillings its better to put it in in stages to assure full thickness setting. for smaller fillings its fine to do in one step. the "nerve protecting" layer that you mention is called a liner and is used in filling where the base is close to the pulp chamber, this isnt really the same as the composite but can be light set. :-)
oh one last thing, composites are commonly found ready to go with the consistance of a stiff putty, no mixing nessisary for light cured. there are chemically cured composites where you mix and they set in a minute or so after mixing but i find these not so good to use compared to the bennefits of light cured, light cure can be placed to satisfaction and you decide when to set, you dont have that with chemical cured, so 99% of jobs are now done with light cured composites
@andypandyhu Dude, in my teeth you wouldn't. No way. Never. Before you would get the permisson to put it in my teeth, it's more realistic that hell would be frozen. Be sure about that. I'd rather have my tooth to be filled pulled than composite shit in it. Ban this stuff for all medical treatments worldwide!
lol whats the beef with composite? unless you want old school amalgam (banned in some countries) or want things like gold inlays. what would you have instead?
@andypandyhu this stuff is toxic and causes cancer as proven in many studies. Sure, 3 M ESPE doesn't want those studies to come up because they are afraid of getting sued. What's wrong with amalgam? The panic and propaganda some people tell you about this material? Got amalgam for 37 years now, NEVER any problems. And I can't get gold inlays: I'm neiter Russian nor a pimp. Poor people in countries where amalgam is banned by morons don't have a chance to get a solid and non-toxic filling.......
@TheOwlDaddy well it has been "proven" that amalgams are toxic due to murcury even though i personally dont see the big deal about them but there was enough studies for some countries to ban them, it has been proven that processed meats can be carcinogenic but they are still legal and lots of people eat them all the time so im open about composites and the real toxicity about them, and pimps have gold crowns not inlays :-P
@andypandyhu but don't forget that your teeth look shit with composite..... :( Looks like dentures...... :( Who would believe a 40-year-old man that he would have so perfect teeth? Nobody! Looks terrible to me. And by the way: Norway and Sweden didn't ban amalgam, they banned all mercury-containing substances because they painted their wooden houses with wood protection fluid containing mercury. It's not against amalgam. In Germany, it's still legal and used. And I don't want gold...... :(
@TheOwlDaddy teeth dont look shit with composite they look natural, so natural that they look fake on old people ok but if a 20year old girl bangs her face and chips a tooth off in the front it can be repaired to look natural. in my opinion both amalgam and composite have a solid place in dental materials. you as a patient would be given what you want at the end of the day reguardless what your dentist prefers or what he thinks.
@TheOwlDaddy some kind of onlay or a type of veneer would be best depending on the chip size, point is that as a dentist we offer options and it would be up to you as the patient to tell the dentist what you want, :-)
@andypandyhu you can use whatever you want as long there's no plastic or composite product, no CEREC, and the very most important: Nothing from the "great" company of 3 M ESPE. :-)
@andypandyhu and what can you do with all the stuff from 3 M ESPE? Filtek, RelyX, Adpher and the rest? Don't you have a BIG, BIG garbage can..........??? :)
man I so wish I didn't spend so many nights eating before bed and not brushing my teeth............ no i have 1 filling and it looks like another bunch are gonna need it too.. boohoo
Same here... I just let it go but now I'm half way through my treatment. If you have cavities and you're reading this, GO GET TREATED! The odontology it's way advanced and there's no reason to avoid treatment. It may hurt a bit at first (the initial shot) but c'mon... Women have children and it's worse ;) GET YOUR TEETH FIXED, BRUSH AFTER EVERY MEAL AND ESPECIALY, DO NOT SKIP BRUSHING BEFORE GOING TO BED (while asleep, you produce less saliva and the cavities increase)
Yes yes EVERYBODY BRUSH THEIR TEETH. lol. I think dentists should use shock tactics like showing pictures of decaying teeth etc. I was only ever told germs would start eating away at my teeth, but had I seen the real thing I might have thought twice before eating all that crap and not brushing before going to bed.
lol Dude, wouldn't it be great if, instead of sparkling teeth in dental paste commercials, they showed rotten tooth? lol I bet it would be much more motivating.. lol
better than those old amalgam fillings that have mercury
