  • Now,if Microsoft's Xbox360 can make an expansion module to play all of "PS" 1,2 & 3 games.

  • Interesting commercial. It shows the prototype version of the Expansion Module #1, and what appears to be a prototype version of Zaxxon as well!

  • Also noticed that they plugged in the Atari Pac-Man cartridge backwards (label facing front). Wonder if that was just to highlight the game in the commercial, or if that was the way it was really going to work?

  • Ha! These games are so "Model T-ish"!

  • Never had Coleco but they are some damn good graphics for the early 80's.

  • .. and now i'm gunna start watching reto ads

  • an add on to let you play competing game system games? oh ho ho, that's cheeting!

  • @karnella Yep. And it led to a law suit. Amazingly, Coleco won. Imagine a Playstation 3 add-on for playing XBOX 360 games or vice-versa. Whoo! Danger!

  • @nebby6

I'll have to look that up and see how they won. they must have found a really clever loop hole.

  • @karnella

Probably how countless torrent sites continue to hang on. They use the loophole that they are intended to be used for non copyright-infringing purposes. In this example, the expansion module is Coleco's own device, what the user does with it is none of their business though.

  • how are you.

  • hi charlene.

  • hi nolan.

  • 2 people dont have vision

  • And our vision is brightly colored!

  • COLECOVISION FOREVER

  • i hope there's an attachement that allows me to play Halo3 on this system.

  • what were they thinking thats like sony making something for you can play Wii games

  • Where's a Wii add-on that lets you play NES, SNES, & N64 carts?

  • @WebVMan:

nintendo sadly never did that :(

for the N64 theres a third party attachement that lets you play NES and SNES games as well as N64 ones.

and theres also one for the SNES letting you play NES games.

but unlike Sony nintendo never had backwards compability. wouldve been cool though.

  • @0M9H4X LIES NINTENDO DS = GBA WII=GAME CUBE

  • Too bad XBox Live Arcade doesn't have these epic arcade titles here.

  • That shot of all the guys crowding around the game is pretty accurate. Arcades were just like that in those days. Except they forgot to make them wear their ripped denim jackets and "Metal Up Your Ass" Metallica shirts. Plus, I don't see an ashtray filled with Marlboros and I don't hear any cursewords being shouted.

  • jjajjaj umm una buena consola quisiera tenerla

  • i had the coleco adam with the atari attachment, it was my first computer lol god i feel old now

  • damn! if colecovision got away with the atari expansion, I wish there was an expansion module so my 360 could play blue rays and all the exclusive ps3 games!

  • @danusty

Atari tried to sue, but the case was thrown out because they could reproduce the 2600 using off the shelf parts. There was no copyrighted material or codes preventing the use of the games on any other console.

Now there are boot sector codes and BIOS they would have to recreate and those are copyrighted, so it's impossible to play PS3 games on a 360.

However there is nothing stopping MS from putting out a blu ray drive to watch films other than paying a small royalty to Sony

  • @snake2006 Except Sony olds all the rights to blu ray and will allow Microsoft to make bluray players, just there not allowed to incoperate it into the Xbox360 in any way shape or form. If they Microsoft was allowed it would have been done with the Xbox 360 slim. So there are reasons stoppinn Microsoft.

  • @bazfanv2

Sony has never said they couldn't have it on their console for games. But doing so now for 360 slim would alienate current 360 owners and divide the install base which would be completely stupid. Atari tried it and look what happened to them.

They could put it in the next Console but they won't simply because they are trying to downplay Blu Ray like it doesn't matter. They are sore that their precious HD DVD failed so they try to claim Streaming is better quality than Blu Ray.

  • @snake2006 Streaming is certainly cheaper. The only bluray movies i have are the ones that i got with the console a few years ago (Black hawk down and Casino royale). Bluray discs are crazy prices even pre owned and so i dont buy them. There bound to come down in price eventually, untill then ill spend the odd fiver on streaming. Also i dont think adding a bluray to the slim would have been alienating, so long as games stuck to the dvd format - it would be just another option. But sony wont letem

  • @bazfanv2

How would it not? They would have to make a DVD version of the game and a Blu Ray version, so every 360 owner can play the game? Does that make sense, NO.

Blu Ray movies only cost about $5 more where I live than the DVD version and those are the combo packs with the Blu Ray and DVD.

Plus streaming will NEVER achieve the quality of Blu Ray. Plus not everyone has the bandwith to support streaming. So it will never take the place of physical media. Not for another 10 to 20 years.

  • @snake2006 I maybe wrong but i am 100 percent certain BD players can read DVD, so thats 1 point to me and 0 to you. Streaming as already reached 1080p (fact). Thats 2points to me and 0 points to you. Bandwidth is already high enough, soon all isps will release higher speeds. 3 points to me and 0 points to you. £5.00 more i agree. so final score. 3 points to me and 1 point to you. You cant argue with what is fact. I will say no more, this thread is closed.Dont be a child in your response. TY.

  • @bazfanv2

How am I being a child? I am giving a reasonable response. I never said DVD's don't play in Blu Ray. But Blu Ray WILL NOT play in DVD players. So making games on Blu Ray for the 360 alienates the current 360 owners without Blu Ray players.

So that is 1 for me 0 for you.

1080p streaming and actually 1080p are 2 different things look it up. 2 for me 0 for you.

    3) ISP's do put caps on bandwith and allot of bandwith is need for streaming Hi Def video. 3 for me 0 for you.

  • @Ninjaboy52 What is an Atris?

  • My dad had the Intellivsion

  • proud to say my Dad had that....

  • It's seems ironic that both Nintendo and Sega both made their home console debuts on the Colecovision, and Colecovision also marked the home console debut of Mario

  • I still can't believe that they actually put ATARI's 2600 games in their commercial. It's completely tantamount to giving Atari the middle finger!

If I were ATARI, that would have pissed me off!!!!

  • They WERE pissed off and of course thought that something like that isn't really right. But the court had another opinion about this.

  • Great games, but the controller did not have exactly what I would call "arcade controls." lol

  • awesome !!

  • I'd buy that..

  • I want a T-Shirt with that ColecoVision 'man in front of screen' logo on it. I always loved that.

  • That was a very different looking expansion module.

  • I just noticed that too! Must have been the prototype. I'd love to get my hands on that!

  • when did it become illegal to copy other systems?

  • Favorited!

  • The Atari systems were great systems in their own right but when ColecoVision came out I was floored by it's expanded graphical and audio capabilities. Being able to play a near perfect arcade port of Donkey Kong blew my little tiny mind and I was in arcade heaven.

  • The game footage of Zaxxon was probably a beta version, there is a graphic glitch in this version.

    Thanks for sharing this video.

Atari did a lawsuit, and Coleco replied first with a lawsuit arguing Atari had a monopole. Coleco did pay a lot of money to Atari, after some negociations, for the expension module and the Coleco Gemini.

  • dude thats innovative and legal but the atari could be reproduced with basic parts

  • Anyone noticing the Galaga sounds?
