  • LOL at 4:00 onwards - getting funky! Ahgn yeeeeah!

  • muito som!

  • Bass Player and Drummer laying down the groove and they are not seen yet you have the guitar player not doing much out there running around like he walks on water, what a joke, the Rhythm Section and Horn were great.

  • สวยยอดเลย

  • To all Saxophone Players here: I'd like to know the name of the Saxophone effect Sanborn uses in 3:48 after his Arpeggios where he seems to bend the flageoletts up and down again. Has anybody got an idea what the name of that "trick" is?

I'd be very grateful to hear from you!

  • @Ic3k0Ld92 he was mainly just using his throat to bend the pitch and him moving his fingers sorta gave it that wah effect

  • One of my favorite jazz songs ever.

  • Don't forget Larry Graham who moves on stage. The father of the slap bass style, and someone who influenced Prince.

  • Check out my sax cover of westlife - you raise me up /watch?v=msgyFhySYhw

  • This reads as if some Jazz fans have spelling challenges much like I'm use to.

  • Great Indeed! My facking body from the groovy rythms that I shaked it in...

  • Uh awesome hat the keyboarder weares...

(anybody remember that late-night TV- music show that Sanborn hosted back in the late `80s ? He always had great musicians that nobody ever heard of before)

  • R.I.P Hiram Bullock...Great footage.

(Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of Type_Gray at twitter)

  • 34.

  • one of my favorites

  • Hiriam Bullock on Guitar/Vox, Tom Barney on Bass, the late Don Alias (R.I.P) on Percussion, I think it's Ricky Peterson on keys.

  • Geile Musik!

  • I don't know if it's a video problem at the start or what, where it's like going forward and back a bit... But it makes it AWESOME. Especially when Hiram is doing his neat dance.

  • The beginning reminds me of the intro tune from Seinfeld.

  • MY HOMIE FROM DA LOU KICKS ASS

  • HEY...Hiram Bullock (guitar), with shoes on!!! lol ...smokin' cut

  • One of my favorites!!! Dave you Rock!! Thanks for years of qaulity music...

    seolmh Great post! Thank you!

  • Please can anyone give me the chords for this piece?

  • Badass shit, I never really looked into this type of genre, and I found it to be awesome

  • Chi town song!

  • Cool!!!!!

  • You just don't see players moving like that bass player on stage anymore. Unless they're Prince.

  • @berkelator His name is Marcus Miller. He wrote some of Sanborns music. One of the three times I've seen them in concert he opened with tthe first five songs written by Marcus Miller. I think this is one of them.

  • @mikea8257 Yeah I know Marcus, but this isn't him.

  • @mikea8257

That's not Marcus; that's Tom Barney on bass-while Marcus played bass on most of Sanborn's records, Tom did many of Sanborn's live concerts. Just becuz u know Marcus is on the records, don't assume he's playin the concerts. U obviously don't know wut he looks like becuz he luks nothin like Tom Barney. Luk up Marcus Miller here on Youtube.

  • @berkelator Guy Pratt moves like that. This is a great song and video. Guy Pratt

does the same thing on stage.

  • @berkelator And Verdine White of EWF, who just never slows down.

  • @berkelator

or vendine white of earth wind and fire

  • @berkelator Prince??? You couldn't pay me enough to sit still for that POS.

  • @berkelator 'the bass player' your refering to is a guitarist, the late and great Hiram Bullock, sadly missed!!

  • @berkelator or abe labouriel

  • That's a top A in the solo. I can't even play a top G!

  • The word I was looking for... just clean... straight up clean

  • sanborn is cool love the bass but i don,t think it,s marcus miller playing, this guy is good and the drummer is tight! sanborn has played with toto, eagles, kenny loggins and many others !! awesome!!

  • @MrTonedeff That's Tom Barney on bass and the Late Hiram Bullock on guitar RIP

  • @bassistdc thanks dude! i have a steely dan live dvd and the bassist is tom barney!i honestly thought hiram was a white guy! in the movie under siege tommy lee jones character wild billy has a band who play live in the film and the guitarist is white and his name in the credits is hiram bullock! unless i,m mistaken i haven,t seen that film recently! white or black the guy jams well on the straight to the heart cd,the whole band is incredible in fact!!

  • @MrTonedeff I'm almost positive that is Marcus Miller in this video. I've seen Sanborn 3 times. Also He is providing a free show alonngwith Jeff Loeb in Monroe MI on 8-14-10

  • awesome

  • i dont think im a virgin anymore D=

  • One of his best songs ever....

    Hats off everyone :-)

  • my mom was so in love with David. He is a nice looking man. She played his records and took us to see him. I am thankful for that. He is the greatest alto player there is. So melodic and clean.

  • the guit player seems happy to have a wireless guit... he's always running with it

  • great saxo!

  • i wish i was born in the 80s. those were his best concerts!!! especially montreux 84'. At least i have the dvd but damn wouldve been nice to see hiram and dave live :( RIP Hiram

  • @DexChick90 I saw the Hiram Bullock band in Chicago years ago. It was on of the best and most well paced concerts I have seen.

  • I LOVE DAVE SANBORN!

  • The guitarist's dancing @3:00 is f***ing hilarious.

  • @matthewnewby89 Not really. The video in the start when its "lagging" is way more fun.

This is such a great song, learn to appreciate music like this all you dumb shits out there.

  • Yes, Mark Stevens is the one doing the vocal riff on the album version.

  • Marcus Miller wrote and composed this song and played bass on the album version

  • who's the guy playing bass. Is that the legendary Stanley Clarke?

  • @mrapina His name is Tom Barney

  • David got a Grammy for this song and the guy on the original doing the vocals riffs (that the guitarist & keyboardist sang in this vid), was Mark Stevens (Chaka Khan's brother).

  • Marcus Miller wrote and composed chicago song and played bass on the album version and did vocals, I dont even think Mark Stevens was on that album

  • And to think...he has one iron lung.

  • NICE SEXY SONG.....

i loved watching this black guy

in this video, very FUNKY !!

    i usually hate "live" videos,

but this was a good one.......

    BILLY RALPH WEEDEN.

  • Ħί Кąĺεв

  • Killing!

  • marcus miller great basist

  • Yes,but thisis Tom Barney

  • really love hiram bullock very groovy and also sanborn and the rest of the band

  • this one is absolutely amaazing!!

  • nobody bangs on the sax like dave.

  • ahahaha.

  • This is circa 1987. I saw DS at the London Hammersmith Odeon and this is the same line up, could be there?. RIP Hiram Bullock on Gtr and Don Grolnick on keys. Sanborn was a real lady killer then

  • I agree. The outfits, the hair (check out the biker shorts lol) definitely mid-late 80's. Being female, I can attest David was one hot looking man back in the day! Saw him and his current line-up a few nights ago (2/24/10) during his West Coast tour to promote his latest CD, "Your Everything" (the title is a track named after his first grandchild, Genieve). He's 64 now. Time is taking a toll on all of us However, Dave's a hot-looking grandpa now and can still blow the hell out of that horn.

  • @ilovegoodsax

    correction: "Only Everything" . ;)

  • Oooops, you are so right! How embarrassing. Thanks for correcting me. :)

  • @ilovegoodsax Agree!

  • Naagyon jóóó!

  • hi, does the cd of this version exist? in which to the bass there is Tom Barney?

I don't succeed in finding it, I know that and' from the live of tokio "live under the sky" but not there and' nothing to be done

  • CD version of Chicago Song is on David Sanborn's CD titled "A Change of Heart". A great CD that is one of David Sanborn's high energy efforts.

  • Great bass!

  • How the hell he plays like that out of the side of this mouth I will never know

  • It's Badass Tom Barney on Bass!!

  • @solavanmotman

He's got a tough job filling M2's big shoes though.

  • this song was very popular that summer of 87 in cleveland.

  • no, it not m miller

  • ol st louis boy gettin down get down davie

  • Great sax playin'!

  • the 2 niga is very lively

  • m miller on bass?

  • so great music! Good music for work! ;)

  • Only the clip is a little strange... but the song, the song is amazing.

  • Go David!

  • Jazz Legend!

  • well, chicago song didn't come out til '87, so that probably narrows it down!

RIP Hiram...sadly missed, especially on stage (or in the crowd!)

  • It's nice to see Mr. Bullock in action. I saw him live with the band in the late 80's - what a showman.

So sorry to know he's gone

  • ummm, the poster on stage says the concert was Live Under the Sky in '90,,,, not '82-'84

  • that's what i'm talking about

  • WHAT YEAR WAS THIS?

  • 1983/84

  • PERFECT in every aspect: Chicago and David.

  • dédicace spécial 4 my sweet Angel ; )

  • Leave my cuz alone?

  • Does anyone have "Coming Home" or "I Told You So"? Those both are better than this song, IMO

  • Marcus Miller was in the David letterman Show band when that show started right ?

  • beautiful

  • such energy!!!

thats the way music should be

  • super bien composer et david (sax) joue trop bien enfin tout le monde de son groupe d'ailleur .

  • David Sanborn contracted polio when he was just a kid and spent five years in an iron lung machine. The docs. told him to take up an instrument to help him breathe.I think he picked the right one !

  • he actually started on trumpet which helped him breathe better. i love his story and music so much

  • Every interview with David that I've read he always talked about the alto sax so this is the first I've heard of him starting out with the trumpet. He loved listening to the Ray Charles Band on the radio back in the 50's and loved the work done by the late, great Hank Crawford and David "Fathead" Newman -- two sax players in Ray's band. When the doctor suggested to his parents that he take up a wind instrument as therapy for his lungs, Dave said he knew it had to be the sax.

  • yea, u DEFINITELY didn't just watch the video titled "Jazz Legend David Sanborn" by the CBS channel or anything...

  • @ilovegoodsax I think every video that I've seen of David Sanborn, you've commented on! Its great to see another David Sanborn fanatic on the web besides me lol. Actually, the saxophone in general is one of the best. Most of his music came out before I was born, I'm only 20. And the fact that he's still coming out with great music makes it so much better! I discoverd Dave only a few months ago, thanks to my husband who also plays sax! So props to us, we know what real music sounds like :)

  • @DexChick90 I was about your age (19) when I first hear him -- back in '80 (gasp!). Had all his albums from the early 80s & still have 2 cassettes from the 90s. His music fell off my radar for awhile, but when I saw him in Feb. amazingly only for the first time I fell in love with his music all over again. I'm so dialed into his sound that after 4-5 notes I know if it's him. For me, DS is the gold standard by which I've judged later saxophonist by. He's the reason "I love good sax." :-)

  • @ilovegoodsax Awesome, I feel the same way. I fell in love with his music so fast, I bought tickets to see him in California! May 30th, and I cannot wait! It will definitely not be my last either.

  • @DexChick90 I'm from Cali too, saw him up here in Fresno. I was thinking of driving down to L.A. to see him again! I feel like I need to make up for lost time. :)

  • @ilovegoodsax I'm actually from Miami, and never really been more north than jacksonville. So this will be my first real trip, best part about it is that it's all about Sanborn!

  • @DexChick90 You'll enjoy the show - guaranteed! Wish I could be there, but all those shows are likely sold out by now. David may be 64 but he still has great chops! He & his skills are aging like fine wine. Now that I've rediscovered his music, I do want to see him a few more times before he stops touring. Hopefully, his post polio symptoms don't get the best of him before I'm able to do that. I plan to catch Dave where ever he plays the next time he swings through Cali.

  • @ilovegoodsax Definitely a great idea. I plan to do the same!

  • @ilovegoodsax And I hope he comes to Portugal Before Polio nails him, too.

  • @jamiejamie01010 He contracted polio when he was 3 & spent a year in an iron lung, another year paralyzed from the neck down. The polio affected his left shoulder (when relaxed, his left arm from the elbow down swings like a hinge), right foot (walks with a slight limp) & his lungs. He has post polio syndrome causing him to sometime experience motor skill & balance problems. I've watched/heard several interviews of David & this info comes straight from him. ;-)

  • I love David Sanborn since my 20's.

Cannot get any better than this jazz wise.

Much love everybody with some music to sing the heart.

    Fiva Ariano.

  • David Sanborn will be twin-billed with Tower of Power for about 10 shows in the NE in March. If you like Sanborn but have never seen Tower of Power live this will be an opportunity to hear one of the best live acts in the business... consistently touring for 40 years and incredible live.

  • damn cool guy on bass. to bad it isnt marcus miller though

  • Marcus can never be replaced on the bass. I knew from the first note that it wasn't Marcus....you can feel the soul from his bass' tone and from Marcus's style. Overall....great song and musicians. ONE LOVE!

  • u aint never lied, no matter how many guys try and copy his style and tone theres only one Marcus Miller
