I guess the first thing that comes to my mind is why do they still need the passport?
I worked on this system in Saudi Arabia. One of the most advanced AFIS systems in the world.

What if you have injury or amputation to your hand, burns to your hands or face. What about identical twins? And the easy faking of fingerprints (search youtube for mythbusters biometric disaster).
