I've played tenor sax for over 40 years, an this song still never fails to get people up and dancing! I've seen it time and time again - there's just something about "In The Mood" that gets people in the mood!!
You know, it is really sad that recording technology was so primitive during the Big Band era. Today's recording technology is fantastic and the music? Not so much. Until you actually experience an Big Band live, you really cannot appreciate the impact.
We catch the Glenn Miller Band whenever they play in our area. The entire audience has grey hair; this is a tribute to the lasting influence of their music.
Crystal, Thanks for giving me a response to my question. However, now I'm a little confused. When The Glenn Miller Story aired on TCM this past week the hosts stated at the end of the movie that Henry Mancini played with The Glenn Miller Band. Maybe they meant that Mancini played with The Glenn Miller Orchestra; which was the name the surviving members used after Miller's plane went missing and the war ended. Anyway, thanks again; and be blessed!!
@TheLazarusman02 -- Henry Mancini never played in Glenn Miller's band while Glenn Miller was the leader, and the fella pretending to play piano in this video clip (and doing a laughably bad job of it) is actor John Payne, who most people would recognize as the actor who played Maureen O'Hara's love interest in the Christmas classic "Miracle on 34th Street."
In the Mood's riff was also recorded in 1932 or 33 on Hot and Anxious, by Don Redman's orchestra, including Joe Garland as sax player and arranger. The composer of Glenn Miller's arrangement of In the Mood is not clearly identified, but it seems to be the work of Miller, pianist Chummy McGregor and Eddie Durham, arranger, trombone and one of the first electric guitar player in the late thirties, member of the Count Basie band.
MAAAAAAN my grade 7 band dominated this song back in the day xD and this isn't just big talk. for a bunch of kids we were fuckin goood. tenor/baritone sax ftw!
Thank you so much for uploading this again, Rey!!! No matter what kind of music I was listening during the day.....I enjoy listening this wonderful music at every time.........I hope to get this movie one time.....didn't have luck with it until now...
Thumbs Up...and it's landed in my favourites just now!!!

This was written by the underrated lyrical genius Andy Razaf.

Besides the big names like Glenn and Tex etc, were any of the other not so famous musicians in the band able to earn a decent living?

So, I'm curious. Since Henry Mancini played piano for Glenn Miller is it a young Henry that is seen in this video playing piano?

Geez,i'm 13 years old and i love this music. I can't stand modern music. I feel like a female Alex P. Keaton.

I'd rather listen to this than most "music" nowadays (which is pretty crappy). Thanks for uploading.

Hi Em -
Some of the most beautiful music ever written. I'd love to have those days again, minus the Great Depression and WWII of course.

@CookiesDen2 - I know all about WW2 my friend. I also know the hunger and the smell burning houses. It make war films rather tame.
