this is from the AVA DVD Start the Machine, i believe....so its been touched up a bit because its a live recording of them, and then they clean it up before they put it on the DVD...thats all. and he does use auto-tune but hes still awesome

Tom DeLonge has been one of the greatest musicians of these past two centuries in my opinion, aswell as Kurt Cobain, Billy Corgan and Jack White. (Honestly I can't think of anyone greater than these 4 people).

Corgan, for sure. Jack White, um, not for me, but I can see where people are coming from with him, Cobain seems to be undisputed. But Delonge? He was in a poppunk band who wrote mostly 3 chord songs with little to no significance (with a few exceptions) and I don't know that AVA really is "best of the last 20 years" calibre... I mean, everyone has their opinions but from most live videos Ive seen he isn't all that talented as a live singer, nor as a guitarist...

I see what you mean and I understand why he might not be a great musician in other peoples eyes.

But after talking to a lot of other AvA fans I have discovered that AvA's music has changed their whole world to the better, including mine.

So Tom DeLonge might be "that bastard who quit Blink-182" to some, but to people like me (this might sound cliche) he is a hero.

And I noticed that you mentioned that he's not good at singing or playing guitar live, but you really can't judge that out of a video, since it sounds totally different when you're actually there.

For example: This summer when I went to see The Killers at Hove festival (Norway), it was so much better than the CD versions. Then the day after I saw some clips of it on TV and it sounded different and worse.

Besides, I don't go to concerts to see talented singers/guitarist, I go for the experience.

I hate to say it, but you get a more honest estimation of a singers ability in a video. Without verb and the rooms acoustics (not to mention a crowd) to mask issues and missed notes, few singers can really hold up recorded like this. But it does give you a more accurate look.

And I totally understand how you feel about AVA in that respect; I have several musicians I feel that way about, I was just curious about in what respect he was "the best"
