I'm a Leafs fan, and I totally agree with you. Cliff Fletcher got him on the team in the 90's for the sake of making a contender for the Stanley Cup. As soon as Cliff left, the MLSE management decided to say "screw the fans!" and let them fall about to keep them playoff contenders, but never good enough to win a Stanley Cup: They make more money that way. Before the lock-out (and the salary cap), the Leafs could've BOUGHT the Stanley Cup pretty much but all they cared about was making cash.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a corporation, they own the Raptors, the new condos, the Air Canada Centre etc. They are owned by the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, so it is an investment, not an owner that cares about the team, it's thousands of owners that care about their pension plans. Most of the ACC seats are season tickets owned by businesses that give them to employees, family and friends, so they're not true Leaf fans, whether they win or lose, those seats are already sold.

I'm a Leafs fan, and I totally agree with you. Cliff Fletcher got him on the team in the 90's for the sake of making a contender for the Stanley Cup. As soon as Cliff left, the MLSE management decided to say "screw the fans!" and let them fall about to keep them playoff contenders, but never good enough to win a Stanley Cup: They make more money that way. Before the lock-out (and the salary cap), the Leafs could've BOUGHT the Stanley Cup pretty much but all they cared about was making cash.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are a corporation, they own the Raptors, the new condos, the Air Canada Centre etc. They are owned by the Ontario Teachers Pension Plan, so it is an investment, not an owner that cares about the team, it's thousands of owners that care about their pension plans. Most of the ACC seats are season tickets owned by businesses that give them to employees, family and friends, so they're not true Leaf fans, whether they win or lose, those seats are already sold.

leafs' management is asking the heart and soul of the team to pay the price for their inept stewardship of the team by waiving his no-trade clause. a classless act if you ask me. sundin is doing his best, and if the ship goes down, the captain goes down with it. the builders of the ship are to blame. the guy wants to wear no other uniform. and so he should be given that respect.

lol. Mats Sundin is the reason I became a Flyers fan. This guy is the epitomy of class...hes said the right things at the right time and shows more loyalty and dedication...if the league was filled with a buch of mats...not even skill wise but class wise, it would be an extroadinary league, keep going mats...we love you here in toronto and wish you the best of luck no matter what team you go to...if any team at all

As a Sens fan, I gotta say it is a shame Leaf management couldn't find a way to get some elite wingers to play with the guy. He's as deserving of a Cup as anyone in this league.

Mats is clearly the most outstanding,loyal member and captain that this franchise has seen.
I'd be severely upset to see him go and not retire as the captain of the Leafs, but Mtas deserves to pursue the glory.
