Yeah I think NSU is the best...When I watch Other lines I be like man they dirty because now after watching MDFS so much they show you what being clean really is at all times.
Ok MDFS!!! Deep 1 was fire n da triplet cadence was creative and nicley done... da whole show was jus anotha fantasic job from million dollar. keep doin yo thang
ok i c dey r very creative but i will still prefer 2 play 4 a swac skool becuz yall meac drumlines cadences sound to corp stylish 2 me no offence yall good tho its jus not my style!!!!! but good job norfolk
As a percussionist and furthermore a hbcu band fanatic i must say that this is no doubt the most creative drumline I have seen....THEY ARE DEFINITELY BETTER THAN VSU, BCU, AND MBC IS NOT EVEN WORTHY TO BE IN THE SAME ROOM WITH THIS SECTION! GREAT JOB NSU
hey um idk i live in norfolk an will be attending nsu "Bodacious 09" but i have to differ in opinion bcu and nsu are close to even to me. but i rather talk tubas lol.
oh yeah man most def dey compare but i just think nsu is better than bcu bro...maybe dat's becuz i see bcu all da time considering da fact that i live in florida and dey perform around dis area alot....
Hey itsabreeze2me, this battle was not against MBC. Notice the other band wearing BLUE not PURPLE....SHEESH. Secondly, if you call dropping 4 or more sticks, being dirty, and your cymbol player bussin' his face to the white meat on the floor than you can have it fam.
Man that was a tight, precise, percussion section! When was this video shot? I shot a NSU drumline battle in 2000 and they look a whole lot better in this video!!
The audible is MD! What do we DO!!!! We get BUTT NAKED!!!! LOL...we made that up in 97' playing around and now it has become tradition, cause we gets butt naked. ;-) Anyway, our style is always focused on what we put on them drum heads. We can get funky, but we don't sacrifice our playing to do so. That is our style...take it or leave it. It has worked for us for decades. All the haters out there do YOU...and MDFS will do US.
i was just at the christmas parade yesterday in downtown norfolk and it was reeaall boring then nsu came through and shut it down playing beyonce's deja vu, i've been listening to this line for years and nobody comes close and i'm seriously not biased, they are the best, most professional, cleanest sound, it's like royalty coming down the street at parades, last night didn't nobody give a shit about santa clause who was riding behind the band, fuck santa!! i'm dancing!!
NSU snares will murder anyones snare, their basses, their quints too, man they whole drumline is dangerous and they'll chop anyone out. they just the best
i know plenty about cookman, yall be choppin, im a fan of cookman, but i like norfolks style, its like corp style mixed wit showstyle.their precision is uncomparable.and their shows are too,did u hear those tonals??and how clean the snares are?and they dont even have any tenors....
I see alot of hostility between the A&T and the Legion supporters. That's the beauty of HBCU, but my personal opinion NSU reminds me of a replication of a DCI drumline. First, funk is essential to the HBCU drumline and you guys are lacking alot of it. Tonal bass is cool but i love the thunder with the tenor not the whole variety show. Quads/quints intro was really WEAK! Technical perfection should always be the basis of any group, but you got to be FUNKY!!!
And thats your opinion by the first ammendment but NSU style sets them apart from other drumlines. Tenors pakyed out in the 90's but marching band still choose to use them i love the Legion' Funk and Flava.
WOW! Look at the soldiers now! The foundation is still as strong as ever. MDFS Family, you cats have taken what was put together so long ago into "PURE PERFECTION." Always keep it tight, and the others will follow. Remember...we were, and still are the "Trend Setters." The first HBCU drumline to introduce Tonal bass drums and Quads to the block. The year was 1982. WOW!!! Play on SOLDIERS!
I feel you Blakmajik78, to me it's like the best of both worlds if you see the two perform. One will have you saying "did they just do that" and the other one will have you saying "damn they are making those drums talk".
I still give the edge to PVA&M because they will show out on you in a miute..but Norfolk State beats are simply UNTOUCHABLE..they are stepping it up with their visuals though...thats what they dont have on PV.
I have not heard any other HBCU band that have a crisp sound percussion section like MDF the closest i will say is Morgan. All the other HBCU bands sounds like yall beating on steel garbage cans. dats awful!
obviously yall havent heard of the funk box from prarie view....but big up to Norfolk State..i had NO IDEA their percussion section was this precise..and downright FIRE !! lol because ive never seen em b4
the million dollar funk squad is the premere percussion section among show drumlines we combine hbcu wit dci a&t is good there gimmicks are nice but our talent is our gimmick we dont need all that extra out snares sound like ak's our cymbals get butt naked our bass drums sound like a million dollars there a lot of great lines we are one of the best plus everybody want a MILLION DOLLARS
Basically with the above analogy, it's like comparing cold steel to a chrysler 300 and mdfs to a bently, one looks sporty and nice, the other one as you say lacks appeal. Then ask yourself which one would you rather be behind the wheel of......the one with the gimmicks or the one with the proven history that the name speaks for itself. Until anyone rates cold steel as one of the best lines....then you can get at us.
allright, i need a breath for this one. first of all, i am a percussionist. been one for twelve years now. from a percussionist standpoint, you all are technical. but we have something you lack: showmanship. when we do it, we do it BIG. we had a gimmick because that's what a SHOW is. yes you put cadences together. but if it don't shine, it's gonna get boring. learn.
Here is a challenge, Be a great show line AND be technical. THEN you will be good. My high school line strives to be the best Technically AND visually. We were good and everyone loved us. So for you who calls yourself a percussionist should know what to strive for. Learn. =]
Freemason3...Boy you need to stop! There is not a single line in the HBCU world that would even remotely compare A&T'S line to MDFS....You need to stop sounding like a drummer. We have the tape, and yes the gimmick was on point!!!!! But ask yourself a question, did it really take a gimmick to level the playing field? or is it because you guys seemed to lack the ability to hold your weight against those boys.
On the real...Cold Steel hasn't done anything to remotely fugg wit MDFS on ANY LEVEL....The "Gimmick" was hot...Become percussionist first then talk..just being real...sorry..yall still my nig's though
A&T sucks badly, MDFS will eat them alive any day. they the best percussion right now, well after morris brown left, and they too technical for A&T. ive seen A&T and they not hot bruh, trust me
Damn... I forgot what the boys looked liked, since I have not seen them in awhile.....They are the cleanest line I have seen in a minute.. Those boys are straight fire.
4th snare from the right is one of the best of the best percussionist ever hands down...and he sexy as hell.....my TOOOOTTTTT
