I was recently told of a siren situated on top of a toilet block in Weston Super Mare, England used for warning the civilian population of impending doom. Anyway, during a thunderstorm it was hit by lightening and the thing could not be turned off, electricians were frantically pulling everything they could lay their hands on (suitably insullated) to shut it up. Presumably the strike had fused the wiring. Eventually, calm having been restored, it was removed.

they have a thunderbolt 1000t or 1003t but they don't use it but they use the modulator instead(2 sirens close to each other) XD

IN BRITIAN WE CALL IT AN AIR RAID SIREN! However we don't have many left since the end of the cold war. Any that are left are normaly use for flood warning, or near power stations, oil refineries etc, but if local councils have their way there won't be any left, apparently you can't here the thought double glazing. what a load of crap, when the Tranmere oil termail siren was tested I could here it!

It looks about 3/4 to 1hp motor. A large bench grinder motor(2 shafts) would work , but they are 3600 RPM.

the british stuff is 50hz, so that would be 3000RPM. It looks like one housing has 8 slots and the other, 10 slots. To get the proper tone from a 3600RPM motor,one would have to cut down on the number of slots. This does not work out to an even number of slots. eg 3000rpm is 5/6 of 3600rpm, so you would have 6.6 slots in one side and 8.3 slots in the other side. Need 50hz to sound right!

What you need to do is paint the red propellor or Rotor or whatever it's called, Black, and with yellow lines angled slightly inward so that when it's spinning, it makes a spiral inward looking effect, like the nose cones of German BF-109 aircrafts. :D
