He's just playing multiple strings, kind of like playing the rhythm guitar. When he's not playing multiple strings, he's just silencing the rest with his fingers.

I don't think hes playing bass chords like i read round here somewhere, he just plays in an agressive way, but one string at a time, muting the rest if needed yeah!

The bass sounds that 'fat' because of the natural distorsion of the amp, or maybe he uses a pedal.

Trully, bass chords really suck played that hard ;).

Hendrix & Redding were plugged to the same type of amp, one with the guitar and pedals, and the other just the bass, pure rock sound!
