  • I'm a new painter, but a lifelong artists in other mediums. I started a painting a few days ago, trying to follow a tutorial I found on youtube. Got the colors way too dark, so I smeared the colors around, basically creating a mottled background. I sat and looked at the brushstrokes and color variations that arose, and found that those strokes told me what the painting wanted to be. Turned out to be one of the best paintings I've done.

  • I would never give up the detail of a nice painting for the slop of that painting.. being loose doesn't excuse sloppy painting

  • @rdevin31 I also love the detail of a nice painting, like hyper realism is quite fascinating to me but I also like expressionism and abstract art, I wasn't sure if I liked this or not so I went on her site, I was really impressed. She's a very good artist. Went to you're channel and... hmm, nothing there, where's your art?

  • Not much "instruction" going on here.

  • Key insight "the painting will tell me what it wants." That's one of the most interesting parts of painting.

  • @SteveHovland Thanks Steve. I agree. If you let the painting "talk" you are not a slave to photos .
