  • ahh, the big six !! Great vid.

  • Sounds like a Petrol Transit!!!! Nah shes a lovly train and i do believe i was at this place last week with my mate while we was on the canal

  • she looks well for a 37901 looks like she is brand new out the factory

  • Make a video of it starting in 32 minus degree temperatures, I wonder how easy or hard it is to start one of these diesels in that temperature

  • how's the GWR pannier that we borrowed at the GCRN at christmas? was a fantastic kettle :)

  • That Starter sounds like an old Ford Cortina!

    Good video though!

  • started up really good

  • started right up!!! is that a 2 or 4 stroke diesel.

  • Is the main generator an alternator?

If so, is there a seperate starter motor?

  • its an alternator and yes there is two starter motors which give that horrible cranking noise while starting

  • Thats Meaty wat a BEAST

  • atleast its clean!

yea they need some popping flames!

  • Nothing compared to an Alco or GE, need a little fire with that exhaust!

  • The clag does it all for me! And Alco, come on! Doesn't beat a good old EE!

  • 37901 isn't EE......

  • I know that Dave, I'm just saying that the result isn't the same as EE...

  • @40445 No - it's a Mirrlees, that explains the single exhaust & starter whine.

  • You mean oversized American crap?

  • Well, let's see....EMD's are now made in Canada and EE is out of business. Oversized or not, at least we're not a country overrun with overloaded DMU's, and ones seats reserved with a tag behind them and nobody in them.

I admit we could have many more passenger trains and less cars, and we're working on that, but I'll put my freight trains over yours any day...that is, what you've got left. Seen any Freightliner container jobs outside of the Portsmouth-London corridor? Thought so.

  • America NOT overran with DMU's?? America is Diesel Land! Here we have both diesel and electric trains, nice mix of traction really while almost every train in America are diesels!

  • 'DMU'=Diesel Multiple Unit, - self-propelled passenger train cars, powered by a small diesel engine in the undercarrage. UK terminology for RDC's.

And I live about .8 mile from the old Nickel Plate main (now Norfolk Southern) here in the USA.

  • Yes i know what a DMU's are, i live in Britain!

  • @321loverdesirohater we just love the black smoke, enough said

  • @321loverdesirohater America is mostly diesel-electric power, freight and passenger. There are exceptions to be found.

  • My Lordz!

  • clag clag clag
