@soverato3 Wrong. It reads: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. The spacecraft name "Soyuz" translates from Russian as "Union". And that is not a coincidence. ;-)
Is this clip at 1:31 from a different landing?? Why was there someone there to video his landing, but then he had to hike through the snow to a village just to be located??
@gwailogavin There appears to be a lot of footage not from this mission and much of it is replayed. Starting at 0:24, much of it appears to be from Project Gemini. At 1:05, I believe that's a special effects shot from the film Apollo 13. It is interesting to see the little bits of original Soyuz footage, however.
Yeah I'd much rather be an astronaut and be blown six ways to heaven on launch or burn up on re-entry or even burn to death on the pad (apollo) ~ yeah GO USA ~ much better than having a broken jaw.
They have had issues a few times in recent years where the autopilot has a brain fart and puts the capsule on a "ballistic path" which has much higher g forces.
@Crisgo3d It appears to me to be the most technical and requiring the most accuracy of any part of the mission. The Russians never were focused on accuracy very much. Their own ICBM policy and lack of technical advancement as in the USA may have handicapped them some for re-entry.
Them cosmonauts were tough!

Losing his teeth was better then losing his life. For some reason the Soviets had alot of issues with re-entry.

A ballistic re-entry. You think the Russians told us about this problem before ISS.
