  • Damn. I wanna vote for LBJ after that! Scary as eff!

  • Would an ad like that work today?

    I'm afraid of the answer.

  • F.E.4.R. Changes Everything.

  • The fact she miscounts is to testify to her innocence and the naive nature of children.

  • Who else thought "Hell YEAH! WOOOooo!" when they showed the explosion?

  • Remember your numbers or the US military will F*cking end you!

  • The voiceover at the end was Chris Schenkel, longtime sportscaster on ABC.

  • If this was run these days people would be bitchin about the word "God" being used

  • @fallingstar888123 lmao i know right

  • 12345766899

    LBJ for education!

  • @dsriggs Learn to count or prepare to get nuked.

  • Maybe he should have focused on education instead...She can't count.

  • LBJ or DIE....politics back then....smh

  • @millinniummany3k i see what you are saying but this campaign was LBJs way of telling the public that goldwater cannot be trusted with nuclear weapons and with the situation in Vietnam and the Cold War it might lead to a nuclear war unless people vote for LBJ and this was only a couple years after the missile crisis so it makes sense although its still sick

  • I find this hard to masturbate to

  • @twinksruseful may I direct you to /watch?NR=1&v=U-VzZQGWOqA

  • Vote for me, or your children shall die!

  • This will forever disturb me.

  • What sick shit fuck came up with such emotional blackmail as an ad campaign?

  • @millinniummany3k

the worst president we've ever had

  • that would scare me alot if i saw it on the tv, im glad there are regulations now

  • Dummy can't count.

  • Bummer

  • Wow. He said God!!! haah

  • What an Ad

  • All of this is just politics. We on the left or doing our job to paint the Republicans as crazy people with guns intent on hunting us down and the Republicans are trying to make moderate Democrats like Obama look like Trotskyites. These ads move people and that is the greatest challenge in politics, to get otherwise apathetic people to the polls. Is in nice? No, but who said Politics was supposed to be nice. Democracy is not nice, it is rough and tumble. Take it all with a grain of salt.

  • LBJ-as-Reagan: "Ah have signed legislation that outlaws little girls who pick daisies. The bombing begins in five minutes."

  • Comment removed

  • ok i agree with the message actually. but as a scar tactic to vote for lbj i had to laugh.

  • I would have wanted to vote for whatever candidate got this annoying little girl nuked.

  • What I find interesting is that while the ad certainly plays on fear, the position it takes is largely the opposite of how it would be construed today. That is, this kind of imagery used now would mean to signal that the opposition is too weak and NOT aggressive enough, whereas LBJ's voice over is actually much more peace/diplomacy oriented (no, the irony of Vietnam is not lost on me).

  • If you don't vote for me, you will be nuked! And so will this little girl!

  • wat the

  • effective ad, in the fear mongering way. The best of intentions never last, LBJ was one of our best presidents in all ways except Nam, not to excuse it, but look at his total presidency and how many great programs he accomplished in such a short period of time.

  • pathos drenched ad. Sad

  • BAYPLOSION!

  • THis is fear mongering at its best people. Shit....let me take notes.

  • this ad is just as politically potent and true today.

  • Everyone was scared of global thermonuclear war back then, and the people with an apetite for power utilized this fully in their various propaganda. Nowadays it's the same - just replace nuclear weapons with global warming / terrorism / armageddon / internet porn and it still works. People are just DESPERATE for something to be terrified of and someone to tell them what to do. Shit..

  • I don't get it, the count down is in english, is the guy saying there's going to be a civil war with nuclear weapons is you don't vote for him? or are they going to bomb japan again just for the hell of it?

  • @pete275 Its a political advert saying only the Decomcrats and not the Republicans could be trusted to avoid nuclear war with the Soviets. The advert was soon pulled as it was scaring people.

  • @pete275 it was an ad referencing comments that goldwater had made about the US using nuclear weapons in the Vietnam War. so the bomb was american-dropped. the fear of nuclear armageddon came from the fact that vietnam was communist, therefor could be backed by russia in the case of nuclear attack.

  • Fucking asshole Johnson.

  • HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAH, awesome.

  • This was the ad that sent America on a direct course with doom. The election of LBJ cemented our trajectory toward fiscal collapse with massive debts we can never, ever repay. Medicare is 12 times more expensive than planned, the Great Society has cost us 7 times more than the War on Terror, yet poverty has gone up. America should have elected Barry Goldwater, a great man from AZ. He was a strict CONSTITUTIONALIST who believed in "Original Intent" just like a guy named Reagan who endorsed him!

  • @Cokie907

The same Barry Goldwater who was seen as willing to use nukes?

  • @Cokie907 original intent is dumb. it is still a personal interpretation. it has crippling logical fallacies. like the people who drafted the constitution writing "all men are created equal" but they didn't mean blacks or women or gays, so does that mean every time the word man or person appears in the constitution, its intent was "white male"? this basic contradiction is enough to de-legitimize the dumb idea. it's not critical analysis, it's justification for an agenda, like preachers do

  • Comment removed

  • @Cokie907

Reagan is a terrible example of a fiscal conservative. He cranked up federal spending, and cut taxes for the rich; the national debt increased from $700 billion to $3 trillion over the course of his presidency. All these "War on ..." programs were started in the Reagan years!

  • DAMN IT IS THERE A SINGLE VERSION OF THIS AD THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE SHIT OR HAS BEEN MANIPULATED IN SOME WAY?

  • Makes me wanna time travel to 64 and vote for LBJ

  • Wow, they don't make them like this any more. for good reason.

  • The quality of this video suggests it is from 1864

  • Good thing everybody voted for LBJ, because there was nothing but peace when he was President. (sarcasm)

  • They said "if you vote for Goldwater, there'll be a war!" Well, I voted for Goldwater and there was.

  • and then he sent us to war. Once i was saying to a girl that I thought george w bush was the most ignorant sounding public speaker ever and then she was like what about LBJ. Then I was like I stand corrected. I dont start this shit that hes just a tipical texan. I know texans and they dont talk like ignorant inbred hicks like this p.o.s. does. He sent us to vietnam and Nixon got blamed for it. Just Like Bush tanked our economy and Obama got blamed for it. Not to defend Obama.

  • lol

  • HOLY SNAP NUGGETS LETS VOTE FOR THE GUY WIT TEH GUNS, to the deloreanmobile!

  • Vote for Johnson or your children will die! LOL!

  • This ad convinced Law and Order star Sam Waterston quit the Democratic party and become an indepenent.

  • I saw this commercial in my history class, and it was AWESOME!

  • you call Horton an ad? now this is an ad

  • Not to be technical, but this wasn't from the late 60's. It ran in 1964.

  • @elpanek Thanks. I didn't know that.

  • theres something about 60's humor thats just so much better then ours xD

  • If one takes into context the era in which the ad was made, its not surprising that someone in politics would try and use scare tactics in order to sway voters. I don't blame LBJ or his party for doing it, it's just the nature of politics. To a degree all politicians do it, it's just the nature of the game.

Personally ads like this are one of the reasons I don't trust (have faith in) what politicans (or their supporter) say and/or claim (especially when it's during an election).

  • Funny how LBJ was okay with spraying Agent Orange but not with quickly ending the war

  • American propaganda at its best. Better than the USSR's because no one here thought this was propaganda while everyone in USSR knew they were being lied to.

  • O_o

    amazing.

  • I sing about LBJ in The History Song.

  • i hope she died

  • Gyerekek, beszéljünk már magyarul!

  • discuss.

  • The ad was aired once in 1964 (mid 60's) not late 60's

  • We should see more presidential ads like this.

  • Goldwater is the hero of true conservatives, not that piece of shit Reagan.

  • Fuck Reagon he did nothing for our country.

  • How can you be so sure?

  • Because his whole "Reaganomics" program did nothing but make the rich richer, It didn't tinkle down to the lower class. And tell me how a whole crack epidemic started when he was in power and was gone as soon as he left power.

  • Yeah well he also laid the foundation for eliminating communism as a whole and the threat of nulcear proliferation.

  • No, yeah because Russia was total about to nuke us. Get your facts straight Russia was just as scared of nuclear warfare as we were.

And Reagan did nothing to stop communism, Russia had problems of its own its not like they were like "Oh Reagan's mad we better stop our whole country to cater to his needs".

  • @Gmancrap

You are obviously uneducated on the matter or just spewing rhetoric based on your political beliefs that are not rooted in facts. Reagan forced the USSR to spend their way to oblivion. Communist countries will never be wealth creators, Reagan's policies bankrupted them due to that fact.

  • @ButterflyDragon9 Nice. That guy is retarded.

  • @codypuckett1 i think its a great ad. id vote for him

  • @ChikenSupremacist It's a good one, he was only allowed to run it once before it was banned

  • @ButterflyDragon9 reagan only bankrupted them by imposing his "starwar" program and at that point the soviets realzed there was no way they could keep up

  • Johnson was a war hawk from day one, he is lying.

He sent a massive troop surge to Vietnam and made a lot of money.

  • It still remains that Barry Goldwater made some very unfortunate remarks while campaigning, and he opened himself up to this kind of ad. Ultimately, Goldwater paved the road for the god Ronald Reagan (whom he even disagreed because Reagan was farther right on civil liberties), but in 1964, the country was more into equality for every American, except the rednecks in the deep South. Goldwater managed to anger and scare even traditionally Republican states to go for LBJ.

  • @BuddyNovinski Yes... in 1964 the country was more into equality for every American, except the rednecks. That's why there were urban race riots that Summer and every Summer through 1977... because minorities couldn't handle all that equality.

Southern redneck congressmen, presidents, and preachers weren't getting assassinated. It was JFK, RFK, MLK... catholics and minorities, and most of all democrats.

  • Comment removed

  • no it wouldn't Barry couldn't keep control of his own party and would of dragged us into WWIII.

  • Correct. I don't get why this ad was so controversial when Goldwater proposed "lobbing a few bombs into the Kremlin".

  • yes

  • It did not win the election - it was pulled.

  • It only aired once, but multiple news sources aired it as part of their news shows due to its controversial nature, so it remained influential anyway.

  • it was only aired once, so it didnt win the election. yes it was over the top but uh... if you think 60 secs won that election, youre an idiot.

  • omigod! that was afwul! i wuda been terrified!

  • why was it nov 3 not 4?

  • first tuesday after the first monday of november is when election day is every year.

  • I vote for death

  • Wow a lot of people from Mr. Mount's class commented...

  • Im gonna do what i said, HI RIDGE PPLS SORRY NO SPAMZ TODAY :D

  • LBJ the Peace Candidate! And he sent 50,000 americans to their deaths in Vietnam micromanaging a war that could have been done right in 90 days by a professional military. How the Democrats want to forget LBJ and call it "Nixons' War"! God save us from incompetent leadership wrapping themselves in the flag. And my cousins wonder why I am not a "Liberal" walking mindlesly toward "the Light".

  • "Done right in 90 days," you mean like Iraq or 10,000 other past wars AND wars to come.

As far as "God" goes - see my George Harrison parody video.

  • You aren't defending the democrats by saying that I hope you know. You are just trying to push the attention (yet again) away from LBJ. Let's hear you own up to the topic at hand, then we can move on to Bush.

  • The war in Iraq and Vietnam can't be compared because they are different strategically and their objectives are different.

  • Why do people constantly insist that it is not the man himself that makes poor decisions, but somehow his political party?

Stop making scapegoats. Everyone makes mistakes. Conservative or liberal, republican or democrat, it doesn't matter. Only human.

  • @RenovatedLocksmith I agree..the president is a mere puppet to its parties whims...to think that ONE person actually makes the decisions for a country is a very naive person indeed.

  • @RenovatedLocksmith

Become better than a human. Leave those petty distinctions behind and become a scientist.

  • Bethany has commented on this video. Go Bolts!!! :D

  • Brandon has commented on your comment. Go ME!

  • Woa, lots of mount's students have commented here. GO BOLTS. srry, was lirsten to cheerleaders today. Lots of GO bolts.

  • By this time LBJ's opponent was Barry Goldwater who's slogan was "In your heart you know hes right, far right". As an opposition LBJ's modified his slogan by turning it to "In your heart you know he MIGHT (use nuclear weapons). So LBJ use this propaganda in order to win the elections of 1964 however critics said it was offensive to the sensibility of the American public

  • if you have Mr mount put name and period on comment or reply to this or anybody else

  • not giving name, but prd. 6

  • yea i have to do it for mr mount to! I dont even get this shit!

  • i had to watch this ad and make a report on it for school today...

  • really, so did i, for Creative writing. Man i love that class.

  • haha for mr mount?

  • Shameless exploitation of children, again.

Of course, if you don't vote LBJ, those warmongering Republicans will cause... nukes... to happen... or something...

  • I realize she's only a kid, but that girl's difficulty with counting doesn't make the Johnson campaign look so good.

  • LOL@Ollieaverage...Maybe the stakes were to prevent total global thermo-nuclear warfare and to teach the nations children how to count, unless he meant STEAKS, like on the barbeque and in that case I think they got a little OVER DONE around the 0:32 second mark

  • I've always liked steak with mushrooms, steak with mushroom clouds might be a bit too much though.

  • Where was LBJ the day JFK was killed?

Notice he is not in the car behind JFK, where he says he was.

    Where was LBJ?

  • He was right. He was absolutely right.

And the stakes are just as high today. The United States and Russia MUST MUST MUST disarm!

The end of the world could result!

  • This ad sends shivers down my spine each time I watch it....

  • anyone know what the girl in this ad is doing now as an adult and what she probably thinks of it now?

  • Haha, my dad was like 10 when this aired and he was randomly telling me about it just a few months ago - how it scared the crap out of him, and how much influence it had on families in the U.S.

You know what I told him?

"Dad, it's probably on youtube, let's look for it"

So we did and he was amazed... It had been about 40 years since he'd seen it, and here it was on youtube...

Now my dad thinks youtube is a wonderful thing. :-)

Other than that, yeah it's pretty scary ø_O

  • That wasn't a nuke. That was the appendage referred to by LBJ as "Jumbo".

  • this ad gives me the chills every time...

  • Why is this so low resolution?

  • LOL because it's back in the 60s dude.

  • wtf

  • This is definitely the most powerful campaign ad in US History.

He paid it to only air once but the shock it generated kept the press playing it and it cost Johnson nothing.

  • It's interesting that Johnson aired this ad on the side of peace considering the fact that he was in process of escalating the Vietnam War.

  • True Story: Instead of dying in a nuclear holocaust, Daisy grew up and moved to NYC in the late 70's and got really into the Disco club scene. She began experimenting with drugs and got hooked on cocaine. In order to feed her addiction, she turned to prostitution. She had many illegitimate children and even sold a few so she could buy her crack. She died in a dumpster in 1983. Looking back, she probably would have preferred the quick death of being in a nuclear blast. Thanks LBJ.

  • It would only have been quick if she was killed by the explosion. Otherwise, it would have been a slow, agonising death from radiation poisoning.

  • so by saying "thanks lbj," youre implying that its his fault for her own independent decisions?

  • So your saying she had lots of sex and drugs, but hey it wasn't all fun LOL.

    But seriously don't have drugs.

  • Barry Goldwater was a Kook. He was an ardent support of Joseph McCarthy, until the very end, and he ran for the presidency on a platform of HALTING the civil rights movement.

He got everything he deserved, and more.

  • Vote for President Johnson

Or we'll kill your children with bombs.

Besides she couldn't even count. She had it comming.

  • And you can't even spell.

  • Where?

  • coming* :/

  • what are you talkking about?

  • I'm talking about how my dad brought up this advertisement in conversation once and I showed him that it was on the internet. I thought I said it pretty clearly...

  • Dude , have you ever really been far even as decided to use even go want to do look more like?

  • I didn't understand that at all, sorry...

  • this is great political campaigning. my teacher showed us this today in my 60s class. i loved it. people wonder how johnson got the landslide victory. take that war loving freaks!

  • To be honest, when people say that the President of the United States might order a nuclear attack on a whim, I think it's mostly fear-mongering. As far as I know, the secretary of defense has to confirm the order, and even so, stategic command would never put the order through.

  • my online professor just had us watch this. Do you feel like you contributed to my education rlcuda? lol

  • Yes it aired once as a commercial but the news media found out about it and it was played and talked about over and over on the news. So it ended up being shown more than if they had just left it on as a commercial.

  • this was aired only one time my mum watched this once when she was little

  • Nope teacher is wrong. Was aired once on September 7th 1964.

  • Inaccurate; my history teacher confirmed that this commercial was made but never aired.

  • well ur history teacher has his head up his ass, it was aired only once

  • "It aired only once, on September 7, 1964."

    - my history book (sitting on my lap)

  • It did air officially, but just one time. I just had to read a book about negative campaigning and there was a whole chapter regarding this ad. Well, so, I should say, according to the author of the book, this ad did officially air just one time. I'm interested to hear why your history teacher claims it didn't air.

  • It was replayed by news organizations over and over again. That is how it became a classic.

  • Oh man!!!! What an historic ad. Up there with the bear Reagan ads.

  • nice.

  • Interesting to see, thanks for posting.

  • Your comment says "late 1960's" but it was part of Johnson's only campaign for President -- 1964.
