You eventually have to defeat Doga and Unei, but they have to be defeated in order to open the Forbidden Land of Eureka and get into the Crystal Tower so you can defeat Xande. When you are defeated by the Cloud of Darkness, they give their souls to you so you can go into the World of Darkness, get help from the Warriors of Darkness, and defeat the Cloud of Darkness.
