We miss you Dale. To us you were a hero, bigger than life, & The Intimidator but to Theresa, Kerry, Dale Jr, Kelley, & Taylor Nicole, you were simply husband & Dad. We lost a hero & amazing racer, they lost the world. R.I.P. 1951-2001.
NASCAR will never be the same. I have always been a Gordon fan BUT I loved you too. How could we not love you? There was nothing better in racing than seeing #3 side-by-side with #24 headed for that finish line. I miss that so much. Thank you for making it magic for so many years.
Yes indeed, you WERE a RACE CAR DRIVER :-) An awesome driver, awesome husband/father/grandfather, boss, mentor, friend. You were such a huge influence on and mentor for two of my favorite drivers - Jeff Gordon and Steve Park. NASCAR lost it's light and fun that horrible day in Turn 4 @ Daytona, February 18, 2001. A day none of us will ever forget. You took so much fire out of Jeff, Steve, Mikey and of course Dale Jr. None of us are the same without you and that Black #3.
This makes me cry every time I watch it. Everytime I see him I cry. Racing and NASCAR has never been fun for me anymore although I still love Jeff & love to watch him race, the fire in him has dimmed since losing Dale & the fun is all gone from the sport. It's changed & not for the better since Dales been gone. I look fwd to Daytona still every year but it's not the same. Also dread it at same time. TY for the tribute although it has me crying as always.
TY for using the pic of Dale hugging Steve on his win too. I miss Steve so much too. I think Steve, Mikey, & of course Dale Jr as well as Jeff, they all lost their fire after their friend/mentor left them. Steve & Mikey missed that big hand around their necks when they won after Dale died. He left such a hole in their hearts/souls and lives as well as his family. He sure left a hole in all our hearts & in the heart of NASCAR. We love you Teresa, Dale Jr.; Kelley; Kerry & Taylor Nicole.
I LOVE this vid. I LOVED this man. I'm a long time Gordon fan BUT I LOVED Dale too. NASCAR'S never been the same & never will. Neither has Jeff. He misses that #3 racing the #24 & it took a LOT of fire out of Jeff when he lost his mentor & friend as well as best competitor. We miss you so much Dale.
Also my mind works in very strange ways. I was 6 years old when he died and to this day I could remember every tiny detail of the crash. I could remember him swerving side to side right before he hit the wall. My old friend told me he was glad that he died! I remember punching him in the face as hard as I could and storming off home. I still can't believe that it'll be 11 years on the 18th this month. The same day as the bud shootout! It still hurts to know that he is gone forever! R.I.P DALE!!
The song really does the video justice. I could have chosen not watch NASCAR, but I would have missed one of the all time great drivers in NASCAR history. I was very young when he died, but there are alot of people who never got the chance to see him race! I was 6 years old when he died. I'm 17 now and it hurts like a new wound. R.I.P Dale Sr!
you don't have to be a nascar fan to realize how great of a competitor he was, and more importantly how great of a individual he was "family, friends and church" this man is a man.
i was 14 when dale died me my mom and dad were watchin it and knew somethin wasnt rite when we didnt see him moving in the car when they announced it we went from being happy for micky to tears and thinkin about it still brings me to tears all of nascar and all sports fans will always remember and love DALE rest in peace love ya man
i rember tht horrbile day like it was yesterday i was 5 yrs old my and my grandmaw were watchin the race when dale wrecked we knew somthin wasnt right when dale didnt climb out and when we heard the annocment we just sit there and cried RIP DALE EARNHARDT
This reminds me of my dad so much. Growing up his favorite counrty singer was Garth Brooks and his favorite driver...Dale Earnhardt. Right now im sitting in my basement surrounded by tons of Dale Earnhardt. Every inch of this room is covered with it. I will always be daddys little girl.
i was only a little kid when Dale died, im now in high school and I just did a speech about him, still makes me sad everytime i hear Dale being mentioned. R.I.P Dale Earnhardt
Every time i watch this video i realize just how much that NASCAR lost and again i gain more and more respect for Dale JR Way to go Jr and my thoughts and prayers are with you
Absolutely the GREATEST stock car driver ever. Loved Dale for the driver and the man. The only person I ever had as a HERO. Man,it still hurts. Thanks.
Dale was good because it wasn't about money to him..He went out to race and win so he could be the best for a couple days and do it again next weekend. Jr had to much money before he started, to be good. Money kills everything.
We all need hero's especially now in our country. I was watching the Daytona 500 that day my hero died. I saw his car go into that wall my heart stopped and I looked at my wife with tears in my eyes and told her we just lost Dale Earnhardt. When Mike Helton announced his death later my wife and I sat next to each other and said our goodbye's knowing he died doing what he loved with his son and best friend. We miss you, and America misses you you glorious tough bastard who took no prisoners.
I had to leave my house after seeing the crash. We were living in the University Area of Charlotte at the time, about 10 minutes from Charlotte Motor Speedway. I felt compelled to drive up to the track. I took a circuit that goes around the track. I made three laps. I did this before Mike Helton had announced Dale's passing. My wife called me after the announcement, but I already knew he was gone.
dale you may be gone but your never forgotten you was the damn driver there was you always did what you had to win you inspired me to become a race car driver and my motto is based on you now if you aibnt first your last and i will be jus like you do what i have to to win i will always love your racing number 3 willl always live on
When Dale died, so did NASCAR. Say what you want but if you watched this sport while he was with us you can see the significant difference. It will never be the same. I was a Rusty Wallace fan and I hated Dale as a kid cuz he always beat my favorite driver. The day he died, i cried. I was 12 years old and ive been watching NASCAR since i was 3. I try to watch it now and i just can't. Its a different sport now.
The problem? The single highlight of this racing series in the past ten years, the death of this driver. For the typical viewer at home it's a dreadful bore. NASCAR owns SPEED Network. Their lowest rated programs are their own races. A local Miami television station aired two episodes of Colombo back to back against the sports season premier race The Daytona 500 and beat it in the ratings by an astonishing 18 points! What's wrong with this picture?
I cry at this moment, as this tribute brings me back to that day. May God Bless You our fallen brother, you died doing what you loved and wouldn't have had it any other way! Thank You for the short time you did give us, you will always be in out hearts.
A good story to follow....Growing up my mom and dad both cried at certain sports figures and their tragic demise...i never understood how or why that person was sooo important to them(having never met them and all)....Then in one day, one tragic and horrible accident I finally understood the sadness and the sorrow my parents had showed on VERY few occasions....the absolute first time and probably one of the last times i'll cry over a sports figure/ICON!
Racing hasn't been the same since, and honestly i don't think it will ever regain its glory....Jimmy Johnson's good and all but HE IS NO INTIMIDATOR!....
We lost one hell of a man and race car driver on this day... I miss him every day... Junebug, your daddy would be proud of you!!! Lots of love to you all...
@1Jesterofpain My prayers go out to his family and children may they find a way to move on and though he will never come back but treasure all the memories and never let go i am not a racing fan but may him R.I.P.
Its Michael Jordan dying in Game 6 of 1998 NBA Finals slipping, on the last shot in front of Bryan Russell and never getting back up. This was the Daytona 500... the last lap.
I am watching this because I started out listening to Garth Brooks singing The Dance.
I was not a racing fan, but my son started collecting No. 3 items when he was a teenager. They are all packed away in a closet, safe from harm.
I am a 62 year old woman, and there are several events and deaths of public figures I can still recall so vividly. President John Kennedy when I was a teenager, Princess Diana, 9-11, and the day Earl Earnhardt died. I was in total shock when each one happened.
u did a great job on making this tribute and i did have the pleasure of meeting him one day and he was one of the happiest people u would ever meet its sad that it has been 10 years since his passing but it still feels like yesterday he made nascar a sport not just for the drivers but for the fans as well he is sadly and forever missed i cried when i herd the news and i am a man that dont show his feelings but i balled like a baby
My son and I sat and watched this race and were cheering for all 3 . 1,2, and 3 finish. hen Sterling made a stupid bone head move to change the racing world.
My son and seldom shed tears but the wife knew and understood these guys needed alone time. She took my daughter shopping so my son and I could grieve, We hugged and cried and sat not believing that our favorite driver had just been killed. We boh struggled for months and only our sports allowed us to work through it. We still raise 3 >
...I have seen those pics enough...no need to put them in a video...I have those pics, and many more from the inside of the car...and I cant even look at them...I have the complete accident report with pics and everything..Close to 300 pages, in a binder, autopsy reports, everything...but I would never publish them...
There was NO NEED to show those horrible pics at the end of that video...you completely ruined what would have been an excellent video..you did NOT have to include those pics of the inside of the car with all that blood
Dale Earnhardt will be forever remembered, not because of his 7 winston cup championships, but because he was so humble, down to earth, and was like a father to all of the younger drivers.
NASCAR has never been the same since. That Daytona 500 was the last race I've sat and watched start to finish. I can speak for myself and many of my friends in saying that all interest was lost that day. I sometimes wonder how many wins Sr. would have had that year, also whether Mikey and Jr. would have been contenders that year.
To Dale- You left all of us 10 years ago broken hearted and tears rolled down on all of ours eyes. How could we have known that you ever say good bye? I still in my mind remember your fatal crash like it just happened. But you know that we still miss you tons and nascar has ever been the same since. No one can fill what you left behind. Dale we will meet again, watching you race the tracks in heaven. 3 forever
I MISS YOU DALE! So many races I went to all decked out in my Dale Earnhardt T-shirts and black pants screaming and pulling for the greatest race car driver who ever lived. I stilll have my picture of me sitting on top of that black Intimidator grinning like a possum eatin briars...lol.
Don't watch Nascar anymore myself...I cried for weeks and I gave up season tickets at Charlotte after this, he was my driver and always will be. RIP Dale...you are gone but you sure are not fogotten.
I know in my heart he new who crossed the finish line on that February day and if we had to lose a legend these are the grounds Dale would have chosen doing what he loved driving hard without fear. There will only ever be one Dale Earnhardt... and I will forever be a fan..
The very next week Steve Park the third Dale Earnhardt Inc. car, as if guided by Angels took the checkered flag in remembrance of Dale, and gave some peace to us all...♥~3~♥
this sport was over that day at daytona it just dident know it yet all they have done sience is re do the rule book dale wrote into a sport i dont even enjoy anymore.
@RCboy221 that is so true, just when we started to recover from the shock of this event 9/11 changed everything, when we anybody who is now old enough to remember that day when we woke uo 9/12 the world was different
lookin back i was only 7 when dale died and the only race i can remember watchin was the 2001 daytona 500 and that was the only race. i really wish i culd have seen him race more bt even though i didnt see dale race i watched alot of videos and he was the best driver ever.and at 2:50 i see him with the 1994 championship and its really cool to be born on the year dale won.in the words of ralph and dale "the winner aint the one with the fastes car its the one who refuses to lose" go dale rip
I remember this race as it was the first full one I've ever watched. I was a big sr fan but being 6 at the time i didn't know what had happened. i didn't understand what had happened then, and, like most little kids, i didn't care. but now im older and i find myself missing him every day, he is the motivation behind everything i do. rip dale
I hope it doesn't make me a bad person but I disliked him cause he won so much. I wish I could tell him that i'm sorry that i didn't appreciate just what he meant to the sport of nascar. When I get to heaven I hope God will allow me to do just that.
Best video ever I have seen. We are coming up on 10 years since his passing, I must say, it seems like yesterday. He is dearly missed on and off the track. Sr. changed the world once he joined Nascar, his death even changed much more. I do say, he went out loving what he loved most besides his family, though he went out doing what he loved most, protecting his son and driving #3. I hope most never forget, before he was a driver of #3, he was a #1 Dad before he was #3. Miss you Dale!!!!
I was at home watching that day, I didn't think it was that bad until I saw Ken Schrader's reaction then I knew it was bad, I just turned off the TV went out and hoped he'd be ok, when I got home a friend phoned and told me she's heard he'd passed. I also found out my L/L who was there was listening on a scanner when it happened and he was not a fan of Sr. but he and his Daughter were upset.
Dale Earnhardt - You fantastic son of a bitch. I cried many times after his death, because NASCAR was such a huge part of my life. Anyone who remembers what it was like before Dale's passing can only long for his presence in the sport and miss him terribly. God bless you sir, you were so much greater than you let on, but that greatness was because you did not want to gloat about your goodness.
I think this is the best Dale Earnhardt SR tribute video. I have seen many of them and again this one is like Dale "Simpy" The Best! Look back over Dales carrer and look at the drivers he has beaten. Jeff Gordon,Richard Petty, Rusty Wallace,David Pearson,Darrell Waltrip,Bill Elliot, Terry Labonte, and so many more!
I loved watching him race, was the ONLY driver I ever supported and with his death my enjoyment of Nascar died with him, I' ve never watched a race again. there will never be a driver like him again and thats sad
Dale you were my inspiration the last 15 years . My son drives the no 3 Z-34 Lumina at Raceway Park . He drives like you too . The no. 3 is back thank God. A Champion in his rookie year in a dream season . the 3 is racin with Ryan V
daytona was your dance like you said if you died racing you would have died doing what you loved doing and wouldnt have it any other way. but i just wish it didnt have to be so soon it first i didnt like you but i respected you when you took out a driver you told it like it was you didnt beat around tha bush and i liked you more i watched that race and i prayed to god you get out that car when they said you passed away i cryed. DALE THANK YOU FOR ALL THA MEMORIES YOU GIVEN US OVER THA YEARS.RIP

Racing hasn't been the same since, and honestly i don't think it will ever regain its glory....Jimmy Johnson's good and all but HE IS NO INTIMIDATOR!....

RescueMe9962 1 year ago

3 forever

"In the final analysis, the safety equipment he had in relation to the wreck that he was involved with was something that was not survivable.
"And they are survivable today. That's probably his second greatest contribution to the sport."
"One last gift Dale was able to leave to a son from the world beyond....."

Perfect song for a perfect tribute.
