I really like this song (especially the Rutles' version) this one seems to cut out the second half of that version (albeit the second half is the same thing over and over)
Quite a strangely serious song for the time...closing mines and closing industries, strikes, etc. Which I think what the satire of the song. I like the Rutles version, that's even more poignant...
This is such a great song, such a really, really fabulous song...

Never heard this version before. I think the Rutles' version from "Archaeology" is more to my taste though.
I like the way he used the bit from his "How sweet to be an Idiot" song at the beginning....well, not on this version but in the Rutles' version.

He is genius. I know this is hundred times said and it is embarassing as hell to say but it is still true to me.

The Saturday night live performance of this song was the best ever.

I liked that one too, joekalteich! I think it was the trousers... or the ears.

I've only heard the Saturday Night Live version twice years ago, and I don't remember it that well. But I remember that it was fantastic.
If anyone has it, they should post it on here sometime. (I know SNL clips usually get taken down quickly, but you should try anyway.)

If you get desperate or just really like early SNL, you can find it on disc 7 of the Season 2 DVD release.

Can anyone confirm that parts of this were actually shot in South Shields? At 1:09 that's what it says on the sign. If so, that's brill!!
