  • Awww! Shawn we miss you!

  • He is now playing guitar in heaven, making jesus cry. Rust in peace Shawn lane =)

  • Thank you Shawn. This song makes me feel like crying.

My favorite style of guitar playing. So expressive. I here the Jeff Beck

    influence. I love this!!!

  • Yes i agree its one of the most beautiful songs that i heard before.Rest In Peace Shawn.

  • Written for his sister that passed away. beautiful song

  • Check out the new Shawn Lane page at Google Plus

  • god of the god.

  • This is the best guitar tone I've ever heard. Like, holy shit. I've got goosebumps.

  • Among the Shredders, Shawn Lane is the Best when it comes to Feeling! It’s amazing; how a Speed God like Shawn Lane can execute a Solo which goes at this low Tempo like “Epilogue for Lisa” Extremely well. This Epic is dedicated to his Loving Sister: Lisa. Rest in Peace Shawn Lane... We Miss you...

  • without a doubt the definitive version of this angelic piece...

he lost a lot when he lost lisa; and we lost a lot when we lost shawn.

  • Goosebumps while listening. He is really a guitar god. Long live master Shawn Lane

  • I actually closed my eyes for the complete two minutes and 44 seconds! Splendidly Beautiful!

  • this song is the reason i started playing guitar

  • @dmarzio Comments like yours make me happy.

  • How the fuck did he even play that note at 1:02? *stunned*

  • @killyou45 did he do something with the picking hand? sounded like a harmonic but i dont know *head explodes*

  • When i die, the first person i wish to meet is Shawn. This song is so sad, makes me cry and the same time makes me feel so better. R.I.P. Shawn, we love you.

  • This is the only youtube video ive ever bothered responding to, but that single note at 1:03 is the most expressive single note I have ever heard. All the pain and anger you feel at the peak of mourning someone you love is somehow represented in those brief 2 seconds...

  • @funkmeisterp Well put. That note had me in awe too.

  • @funkmeisterp Exactly, I've been watching this video for ages and I always felt the same

  • Very beautiful and insprirational piece of music. I wish I knew this man.

  • perfect tone and feel ! reminds me a bit of Gary Moore (rip)...

  • Shawn lane, a unique, one of a kind great musician.

Shawn, you are forever to be missed. R.I.P Shawn Lane

  • 1:02

  • @SleepyheadMedia Holmes Mississippi Blues Master amplifier with Westbury Tube overdrive, all long out of production.

  • @ExtremeBogom

He wasn't amazing for what he did technically. That's a small part of it.

The music that he wrote and his way of phrasing it was beautiful, no matter what the speed.

There are so many guitarists who play fast for the sake of it. Shawn wasn't a shredder. He played what he felt and he did so tastefully.

  • @Element404

    No...really? You don't say?

You got me, I always hated Shawn's music.

I only posted this video to show my secret hate for the man...

  • @Element404 I respectfully disagree, Shawn was very much a shredder. He was extremely tasteful in his playing, but he is considered to be the best shredder ever.

  • Shawn Lane was the greatest guitarist in the world, and he was even better at piano :(

  • this is the hardest song to play and cover made by shawn ... the feeling and emotion is unmatchable.

  • But Hendrix was shit and one of those who was famous for jack shit, Lane actually made excellent music and was a phenomenal player. Hendrix was not.

  • @ExtremeBogom

    very good point

  • This is what Vai wishes he could be.

  • @beautifulsarah100 This is what any musician wishes to be. lol

  • one word.... AMAZING !

  • i really just dont understand how this song can get dislikes, any person who like any form of music would like this, RIP Shawn, we'll always remember you.

  • @metalmike04 People are just ignorant and dumb, simple as that.

  • @metalmike04 They probably hate themselves.

  • @SuperGukke soo true man.

  • @metalmike04 Some people just aren't into sad music. Some people aren't into guitar music. Some people aren't into distorted guitar. Some people don't like music that they can't dance to. The list goes on. It's not hard to understand.

  • @metalmike04 I think you answered your own question there

  • @metalmike04 It's getting dislikes from people who think everything non-shred sucks.

  • One of the best.. Rest in peace, Shawn.

    I will never forget you.

  • You were the Greatest,Shawn

  • Amazing not only could he shred like almost no one else this slao shows he had great feel which a lot of shredders don't.

  • just beautiful

  • Thank You Shawn, R.I.P...

  • R.I.P Shawn Lane

  • This is beautiful..., but sounds a little bit like Rain by Jason Becker :P

  • Comment removed

  • We can say only one thing, simply fantastic! Shawn was, is and will be one of the best guitarists!

Shawn rest in peace and continues to play the guitar wherever you are!

    Sorry for my English ...

  • Facking Awesome!! he makes me cry for happiness. that god rest her soul

  • I dont know if this makes sense to anyone, but I can feel all the sadness and pain from the loss of his sister lisa through his playing on this. So much emotion

  • @ExtremeBogom Wait. So you're saying that music ISN'T a contest?!?!? :O

Next you'll be saying that everyone has a different opinion or some other nonsense....

  • @TheMeesterfeesh

I know...You'd think it were obvious wouldn't you? xD

  • @BrianGuitarShred 99.9%? Dude Shawn's playing stands above 100% of all the other guitar players

  • Wow! Very nice.

  • where are you Shawn :(

    rest in peace man....

  • Absolute perfection,masterful

  • Am I the only one out there that finds this version more beautiful than the studio version?

  • @nylonhead116

Yes! This video hits me wayyyyyyyyyy harder. Its scary. I love this song so much.

  • @nylonhead116 that makes two of us at least , sheer beauty

  • @nylonhead116 it's beautiful indeed but the acoustic guitar of the studio version is simply perfect :)

  • @nylonhead116 not at all. this version is much better than the studio version.

  • @BrianGuitarShred So then, what makes Rusty Cooley hard and empty?

  • Been coming to this link for a few years, felt guilty and bought the powers of ten album. I am so pissed, who was the knuckle dragging, thick foreheaded, oxygen theiving moron that kept banging the hi-hat through the solo?

  • @BrianGuitarShred

Rusty seems like a nice guy. And he is a human-being. You're pretty mean.

  • this is the most original interpretation of any bach peice from anyone ive heard. The man is incredible. The cool thing about him is that i think he just wanted to be called a musician.

  • @BombsonBicycles Bach? You might be thinking of his other epilogue on the tri-tone fascination, that was definitely by bach. This i think is original though. Lemme check

    (Wikipedia)

Yeah, from what Ive read, I think its original. I could be wrong though

  • can't decide which is the greatest piece of music ever composed: this or jesu bleibet?

  • ineffable!!!

  • howd he die?

  • Fantastic!!!

    \m/~~~

  • perfect!

  • this is so perfectly executed

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome!!

  • This is so good its extra-terrestrial

  • @BrianGuitarShred I think it's safe to say 100% of all guitar players.

I've yet to see a "better" one.

  • @BrianGuitarShred

    Whatever you say mate.

  • I honestly think that after an artist dies, their art should become public domain. I know that i wouldnt want anyone else reaping the rewards for my work after im gone anyways......

  • He can do it ALL! I swear. The day I found out about Shawn Lane and saw how awesome he was I was like WTF?!!?!?!?!? Why doesn't he have a billion albums? Where are the live shows?! Where is he now?!? Then I found out he died- it made me cry.

  • Biggest inspiration,

We miss you Shawn, We will never forget you.

  • He must be good if he can make a charvel sound good lol.

  • is there a lane tribute?

  • The profit's from the Warmth in the wilderness album's all go to the Becker family and research on the MLS disease in hope's of a cure.Don't know where the money goes from a Shawn Lane tribute album though.

  • @blitzspeer I was involved in a Lane tribute album along with a number of other artists and I honestly have no idea what happened but the project appears to have vanished. My understanding is the profits if any were to go to the Lane family to pay off the remaining considerable medical bills left behind after Shawn passed away. Shawn had no medical insurance as many musicians do not.

  • I think it would be a fitting tribute for Jeff Beck to cover this, first he would make a fantastic job, and second it would bring Shawn to a bigger audience

  • the 7 people that disliked this, have no soul!

  • this embodies the feelings of love and life, at times they seem hard, but things change and never remain the same.

  • Lane makes Holdsworth sound flatulent.

  • @ExtremeBogom So I guess what I'm left asking is why did he even bother? ahaha. Oh well, honestly come to think of it at least it's a nice gesture if anything, I've heard he idolizes Shawn. I wish it showed in more of his music though, ugh.

  • Just listened to Rusty's version of this song, he killed it. Shawn was such a damn genius, I had to listen to this version just to fix my mood after Cooley pisssed me off.

  • @theaceofclubs

aww that's a shame, I like that version.

  • @ExtremeBogom I just can't understand how taking this beautiful song and simply ruining the tone is enjoyable. But you're not the first to tell me they like that version too.

  • @theaceofclubs come on now, leave Rusty alone! we all know what you think of his cover!

This definately has a better feeling and tone. But you gotta respect Rusty because he kept it simple and didn't sweep your face off and he didn't even shred!, which means he really does idol Shawn

  • @saumier1 I never thought I'd get so many rusty sympathizers haha, most people I talk to really don't like him. Perhaps if I didn't already have a distaste for him, I wouldn't have been so judgmental. But why release it on an album for money? Why not just pay tribute live? Like Shawn did for Jimi

  • @theaceofclubs I agree with you on that one. shouldn't be making money off tributes

  • @saumier1

I don't see the problem with that...

What about the Shawn Lane tribute album 1 & 2, or the Jason Becker tribute albums?

I don't think its bad just because some money comes from it.

  • @theaceofclubs

but we can hear Rusty's influence from Shawn a mile away.

do you think Rusty was the first to pick up the pentatonic sextuplets,

and show them to Chris Storey?

    i think not sir! :D

  • no song brings me to tears like this... every freakin time..

  • I like this version better than the studio version. This is what the dictionary should show in the definition of "soul in music". Followed shortly by Ry Cooder's "Feelin' bad blues".

  • @chippinfoo feelin bad blues is the very definition of "Blues", such a great song.

  • nice!

  • Goose bumps... <3 R.I.P

  • I was there...to the left of him,...and man, you could feel every note...the most beautiful thing ive heard.....ever!!!!!!!!

  • @deltabluesboy10

You were really there? In the audience?

  • @ExtremeBogom yep...his live tone was perfect,...he did a soundcheck before the show checking from every angle. he did a short shred solo that left every shredder there re thinking if they should continue....lol I have yet to this day see anyone match him....!!!!

  • @deltabluesboy10 I was attending MI when this was shot,....i watched him set up,..and do sound check etc...and also eat a big pizza before the show...lol

  • @deltabluesboy10 FUCK YOU!... I am SO jealous, this particular time the song was just DRIPPING with feel. I would've melted if I was there.

  • i prefer this live version with electric guitar to the original one

  • this is just too sappy, its annoying

  • @AJshinal wtf, sappy, annoying?...dude how much crack are you on?

  • This is why Shawn Lane is my favorite guitarist. I wish I had a chance to meet him. He knew how to convey every ounce of his emotion in his songs.

  • 6 DISLIKES!?!?!?

    :O

  • What a great song, this is a real masterpiece!

Hw can people listen to rap when there´[s such beautiful music around.

I like to compare Jason Becker and him with the great composers.

This kind of music will never die!!

  • FUCKING AMAZINGGGGGGG GREAT GUITARRIST,THE BESTTTTTT

  • Wonderful

  • Sorry, I should be 1:01

  • That note at 1:03 ..........

  • Whoever disliked this has no heart.

  • Want a Charvel just go and look on there site....1099.00

  • The album version of this may just be the most beautiful song I've ever heard. Absolute stunning beauty in a song composed by one of the greatest musicians of all time. This one is being played at my funeral.

  • @Kingding6

    Awesome comment :)

  • Looks like Hank Marvin's been spending too much time at Burger king

  • What a beautiful composition.

  • Anyone know where i could download this version on a mp3? I love this song what a talent..

  • is this off a certain album?

  • @pegasuslover97 Powers of Ten. Highly recommended.

  • @imatube2 thank you i actually figured that out like seconds after i posted this. i was a little dissapointed to hear that he didn't play it electric on the studio version. it has a lot more passion in it it seems like and the tone is great

  • is this off a certain album?

  • Truly amazing. Does Shawn have anymore of these slow, ballad-ish type songs?

  • really sings with his guitar amazing song thanks for posting :)

  • Shredders aren't usually known for tone... But this is stunning. Sounds almost like a sax. Even as a die-hard Jeff Beck fan, I'm stunned. Anybody know what year this is?

  • Great guitarist. Sorry for him to die so young and with so big talent...Too silly!!!

  • if you want to download full concert (Live from Paris 2001) of this phenomenal guitarist, you can do it here:

    itsreallyhuge[dot]com

  • One of the most beautiful guitar pieces ever...thanks for posting.

  • that was best guitar player ever ...

  • Do you know where I could buy a Charvel 750xl?

  • @XxSameerxX

There used to be a japanese site that traded rare Charvels, and Jacksons, but I haven't come across it for ages, so it could be down.

Other than that, I don't know anyone else than Ebay.

  • @XxSameerxX

Buy a new Jackson or slightly used one. That's about all I can tell you. The top end dinkys aren't bad, you could also try the soloist line if you can spare the cash.

  • @XxSameerxX Just go to Charvels web site you can buy right there...1099,00

  • @XxSameerxX

on ebay if you find , but it will not make you sound like him

    ....sorry.

  • this is just too good.

    RIP Shawn..(-_-)

  • fucking beautiful, I closed my eyes and imagined a saxophone and guitar had a baby

  • @MisterMouthy why are you in such a bad mood? sit back and listen to the music idiot

  • what guitar is that?

  • charvel 750xl :)

  • Charvel!

Jackson is the small company of it!

Like the LTD guitars for ESP!

  • other than a couple yuki kajiura songs, this is the only song that has ever made me cry just from the sheer beauty of it's melody. R.I.P. shawn lane. greatest guitarist ever.

  • rip shaun lane

  • Guys can we PLEASE stop filling the comments with silly, often hateful comments.

I really don't want to disable comments; but I will if I have to.

  • his guitar sounds like a saxaphone. incredible tone.

  • What an incredible talent Shawn had. I wish he were still with us.

    AMAZING!

  • @guitarttimman

Does your presence here Provide Proof of Stalking?!!! you realize you leave an Electronic Trail... Right?!!!

  • Great point oilkills,Guitartimman,or is it DRJackKovorkian, or Timcoodog,or so many other acctn names you troll around with onGovans vids. And thats not what you said a few days ago,if I recall you said and I quote Shawn Lane sucks,Anyone that questions these claims check out Govans vids or Tim Halcomb sucks vids. You will find the truth there and Moondancer33,oilkills,Teartheroofoff,will back that up.Go away Tim nobody cares what you think and your not fooling anyone.

  • @petiethepitt

I am not those stalkers. I guess they are trying to make it look like I am. That does anger me very much!

  • @petiethepitt

You're a fag! I'm not Tim. I've never seen him insult anyone. He is just a humble musician who has some haters like you. Now eat shit and die okay? :-)

  • oilkills am I lying?I dont remember all the Govan vids bur I do know he said that as well as many otherthings thats why i'm supprized to see guitarttimman pretending to play nice here. There is no place for trolls like you on ytube tim, especially Shawns vids. Now we will see your BS accts show up to defend you.and we all know oilkills from lanes vids and know he speaks the truth.I wish I could remember the vids and troll accts, perhaps oilkills can.

  • @guitarttimman

I think you Should, as a man, show your contempt for all those idiots! By abandoning that smiley face that you and THEY all do... Take a stance against what you know is wrong like Stalking and IMPERSONATING and commit to an act of separation from those idiots! Abandon the smiley face... OR you'll show that you condone the illegal acts of Stalking and IMPERSONATING, and continue with that stupid face. What will you do... separate or condone.

  • @oilkills

Sir, you are a wise man. I have never disrespected you and I will not.

Thank you, that's great advice. I will separate myself from them.

  • Tim, I mean no disrespect. I greatly admire your ability as a guitarist and it really pisses me off to see these clowns with their bullying attitude!
