  • 95% of the UK population just wont understand this kind of comedy if your in the 5% be proud

  • @Netactical1 I think more than 5% get it, but only 5% like it. If I was a big Stewart Lee fan I'd like to think I would not have a superiority complex about it all.

  • @Netactical1 Oh look at you. You're so fucking smart aren't you? Laughing at jokes that aren't funny...

  • @CRMHFC its not my fault your to dumb to get it ;)

  • @Netactical1 i get it, it's not funny,

  • @CRMHFC what you here watching it for then num nut if i dont find something funny i dont watch it nor comment on the vid. try it

  • @Netactical1 I wasn't planning on saying anything until I seen your rediculously arrogant comment. And if you must know why I'm on the video, I'm writing an essay about people who use taste to show cultural superiority and you and many other Stewart Lee fans seem to be prime examples.

  • @CRMHFC you have issues buddy you should read Asher Ds book it could teach you allot

  • Stewart Lee's comedy is just far too intelligent for mainstream TV. It's not lowest common denominator dumbed down garbage that can be force fed to the masses..... Like celebrity juice.

  • got to say its amazing how much improvement was made in series 2

  • Stewart Lee is absolutely brilliant...such a clever fella...people who have a goat him just haven't got the brain power to realise what he does is a class act

  • Save yourself 3:53 minutes of your life and don't watch this unfunny idiot.

  • @Brian88X can you possibly stop flapping your cunt lips & make a point please.....

  • @Brian88X the bloke is a genius , not for the mass market

  • All YOU RAPPERS IS ACTORS

Including jay-z. Fuck dat fishlipped negro.

Rap is getting political again though. these poppers are gonna bite the dust and there will be a new renaissance, mark my words.

The bullshit we are experiencing now has been manufactured to stifle consciousness and mantain control over an art form that had some SERIOUS revolutionary potential. Even the gangbangers are beginning to understand that.

Remember, they are not scared of rap music, there scared of US.

  • @DJpopel It'd be easier to take your heartfelt diatribe more seriously if you had a grasp of the linguistic differences between the homophones they're, their and there. Just a bit of friendly advice. [=

  • @sPoNdOoLa

It would be easier to believe that was merely friendly advice if you hadnt used the word "homophones". Or linguistic differences. Or diatribe(seriously, diatribe?).

Because right now you just look like a grammar-nazi smartass cuntmuffin.

why exactly would my message carry more weight if it was up to your linguistic standards? do you only acknowledge statements that have impeccable spelling and grammar?

You simply have nothing meaningful to say. That is the crux

  • @DJpopel Haha! I agree with you. Sorry man, I was drunk and bored and looking for a rise. Like smartass cuntmuffin by the way. I was kinda paraphrasing another Stewart Lee routine but it deserved your response. Respect.

  • Gaah. I get so sick of Stewart's delivery technique of repeating "like they have now, you've seen them on the...." Over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Get on with it Stewart. He thinks the repetition is funny. He's wrong. It ruins otherwise good material.

  • @69ulrika you've seen them though havent you. the rappers; right where the multi-story is, down by the corn exchange

  • I found this video very informative,

  • If repeating yourself ad nauseum were the height of comedy. then this guy would be the funniest man in the world. Unfortunately, it isn't, therefore, he isn't.

  • @grolis666 If your word were gospel then you would be God. Fortunately, it isn't and you are not.

  • Hard to believe this is only 3:54 haha

  • heehee ..... Lee technique ...............

  • I don't care if this guy does 'more intelligent' comedy, and I resent being told that I'm stupid because I don't enjoy him. I get his jokes, I get what he's saying, but I find it monotonous, repetitive, and just not funny. It's his fans that are worse though. Normally, not having a preference for a certain comedian wouldn't bother someone. But Lee's fans have to go into a convoluted essay about why he's their fucking messiah.

  • @aaddaammize He's quite a niche comedian, I think. At first I couldn't stand him either, but now I sort of enjoy him, although some jokes are still rather hit or miss for me.

  • @aaddaammize

As a fan of Lee I think this is pretty spot on description. Then again it's what we all get for being stupid enough to read youtube comments. Nothing good ever comes of reading online comments. I think Lee's genius. Others think he's terrible. There's nothing wrong with either standpoint.

  • @aaddaammize It's not for you then really, is it?

Also: You can't write an essay in a Youtube comment box, unless you continue to re-post, post after post, to build up a satisfactory word count (which includes an introduction, discussion and conclusion.) In which case, those devotees should be praised for their sheer effort.

  • The joke is that rap is everywhere and totally inescapable and it's impossible not to be aware of it even if you don't listen to it.

  • @thelexus Thats not the joke you ponce. The joke is that he is rambling on like someone who knows a bit about rap. the punchline is that he knows nothing about rap which had become increasingly obvious by the time the punchline itself was delivered. The timing is genius. The layers of irony is genius.

  • @samsaint11

"You must have seen them; the rappers, the rap singers?"

    OF COURSE WE HAVE!!

  • why do people seem to think he is mocking rappers? At no point does he insult a rapper or rapping generally, personally I think he is parodying his generations lack of knowledge about rap, but maybe he is just being daft because its funny. Maybe this isn't your taste and you prefer Michael McIntyre or someone, but either way, at least listen to what he is saying before you post your pointless hateful comment

  • What the hell is everyone laughing at? This wasn't funny at all. It was basically a bad case of Robin Williams Syndrom: just repeat yourself to death and milk your joke until it's way past bone-dry. I know I can't judge this comedian soley based on seeing this segment, but nonetheless, I spent four minutes without even cracking a smile, let alone laughing. I'm going to watch a Steven Wright video now for a good laugh.

  • This is not humour, anyone who argues otherwise is just a fanboy. This is repetition, maybe it would work content were funny but it's not. This guy just hates rappers and has an audience of sheep.

  • @smurphalotte this is surreal, almost dada. It is comic art. You want to tell us what is funny. Are you funny?

  • @jacktojack69 And the audience went to his show under the premise that he was going to perform dada? Those avant garde/ ridiculous forms of comedy had their place in centuries past, but we've evolved a naturalistic humour that is relevant. Stew Lee is not relevant, he's an old fart who hates rap and has a humorless way of expressing that. abd to answer your question, yes, I am funny. Not funny enough to do stand up but at least I'm aware of that.

  • I don't like rap and rappers. Still, this shit wasn't funny.

  • This is definitely the least amusing skit I have seen by him. The use of repetition is really overdone in this act and it's just there to fill the void of humour that the performance suffers from until the end with the "I don't think the books really targeting me" quip. Personally as a lover of different kinds of music I find that intentionally illustrating ignorance of fascinating a music genre and important social culture that has is an amazing story lame. The use of repetition is really ov...

  • @jonskifresh Okay, first of all this is not a 'skit'. If you want to watch a 'skit', go and watch McIntyre talking about getting an order wrong in McDonalds or something. Secondly, he is not insulting rap, rather parodying the ignorance shown towards it by people who don't understand it. Lastly, if repetition makes 30,000 idiots switch off their telly, so be it. As he said in Series 2, "it's not for them".

Now fuck off, you soppy tart.

  • @MrsPopeJohnPaul Actually a 'skit' is exactly what it is you crusty lipped doofus. And how ever much I love his clever comedy I am objective enough to recognise that this skit is not particularly funny.

  • @MrsPopeJohnPaul I think he was taking the piss out of hip hop's omnipresence, while still being 'underground', no?

  • @jonskifresh He's not disparaging rap, at all. He's making fun of the emptiness of modern pop rap, like Asher D. The bit where this becomes really clear has been cut off, but basically he's pointing out how at some point rap advocated social change and political awareness, and now it was just meaningless gestures and stupidity. He is showing why the average person is dismissive of rap, because they are primarily exposed to a rather lame version of it.

  • you've seen them...the rap singers, like on top of the pops....you know...the rappers they have now...them, the rap singers

  • Where are the Rap Singers again?

  • I don't like some thing but I do like other things. The things that I like are better than the things that I do not like. Here are 500 youtube comments explaining why.

  • I just had raging toothache for the last week. I think I laughed more about it than I did at this unfunny twat.

  • @BigDogsDangler

He is only doing it to display or exaggerate his ignorance of the Rap singers. Are you a rapping man, as you have a rapish pseudonym. I can understand your pain. Maybe you can "Dis" him with your "crew" down at the corn exchange!

P.S. I actually do love Hip-Hop (El-P) sorry dude, Peace regardless, and hope you get another "funny" bout of toothache. x

  • stewart lee videos on youtube get the best comments. I love hearing comments from people who want to explain to everybody why they don't like stewart lee. Like they can convince anybody to change their mind "oh look dear masterSlayer666 says stewart lee is an unfunny twat let's see if we can get a refund for our tickets"

  • @mrcuddles100 Then there are all the idiots that try to make themselves sound like intellectuals because they like or pretend to like Stewart Lee, phrases like: "pandering to the lowest common denominator" tend to be used a lot.

  • I don't get it...wheres the joke?

  • It's not a terribly difficult joke to get. It is incredibly tiresome though.

  • i can feel iannuccițs influence in this skit. love them both

  • for those that don't quite understand, one way to analyse this segment is that he's depicting rap as confusing to him, as he is describing it, in a confusing, repetitive buildup - similiar to his depiction of the genre...

and for the record, i do enjoy rap music.

  • @turnermichaelau Wow, very well put...

  • haha love hip hop but this is fucking gold

  • You've seen em on the uhh.. Top of the Pops. :D

  • Stewart Lee is the best comedian in the world because he doesn't give a shit, he's not afraid to make fun of his audience and people respect that

  • Dident understand a fucking thing, but it was hilarious lmao

  • I love the way Lee refers to the rappers as if they are just pets, commodities or just a mild cold.

  • I was watching this the other day, realized I was impressed by the fact Stewart Lee was standing fo rextended periods of time, thought "fuck me I'm getting lazy."

  • Funny how this is only 3 minutes long but it felt so much longer when I first watched it.

  • Comment removed

  • @markyboy27able i was thinkin he was tryng to do that but too many times after i wasnt sure

  • pretty damned accurate description of those rap singer guys, i'd say

  • Love this shit - stewart lee is the don - my girl got me tickets for my birthday at the new marlowe theatre in feb. can't wait - i suggest the haters stick to benny hill

  • So, so funny. But then you need a sense of humour extending beyond fart jokes to appreciate Stuart Lee, which by quickly flicking through the comments excludes about 90% of the people on YouTube.

  • @nevadabboko you must be a freerunner then.

  • wow ive been watchin this till 2.02 , how the fuck do you find this funny he sayd the same shit over 100 times in 2 mins and cant make one intelligent funny joke

  • @LeeJTurnock You like Top Gear, don't you? You think it's so funny. Ha ha ha, you say. Jeremy Clarkson should be Prime Minister.

  • @LeeJTurnock Twat, hes got more wit in his sphincter than you have! Dont heckle someone who does it for a living.

  • audience figures show that during this but 300,000 viewers switched off. As Lee says: 'Fuck them, it's not for them'

  • How to make 30 seconds of material last 4 minutes.

  • @weejockpoopongmcplop

It wouldnt have the same impact if only 30 seconds, So, what do you know?

He isnt trying to reach people that have no attention span!

  • @LeeJTurnock you just dont get it. you wouldnt ruin the act, all you would do is convince the audience ur a douche.

  • @RickyRaff What is there to fucking get? It's just a pseudo-intellectual ballbag repeating "the rap singers....you've seen 'em" in an ironically motivated, but ultimately unfunny way for four minutes.

  • @MrJonnykitkat Yup. I agree. Ugh, it's lame.

  • @MrJonnykitkat I agree, if something doesn't meet your personal exacting standards of comedy it must not be funny, period.

  • @MrJonnykitkat What, in your expert opinion, would a real intellectual look like?

  • @Widmerpool99 /watch?v=hLkC7ralR30

  • According to Stew in his book, this segment lost 300,00 viewers on it's original airing. Clearly, these people don't know comedy.

  • @Chronixal You call this comedy?

  • @Chronixal I can't believe they all missed "Now this book's not really aimed at me".. It's like they didn't know who they were watching you can't quit on him halfway through?!!?!?!1?!!?1?!!?1?!1?!?!

  • @Chronixal wait, is that 300,000 (quite a lot)? or 30,000 ( negligable)?

  • @Jellowlink Well when you consider his audience is fairly niche 30k is still significant.

  • hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha the argument between stoate and centralscrutinizer is waaaaay funnier than the video

  • Genius

  • This is almost definitely a stupid question, but what the hell is the handrail bit about?

  • @oldchippy Ohhhh.... it's skaters isn't it.

  • @oldchippy Is it?!

  • @oldchippy Yeah I believe so. It took me a minute to figure that one out too :D

  • @oldchippy Its the rap singers, you've seen them? On the top of the pops, in the shopping centres you've seen them? They run along the hand rail.

  • It took me the length of the video to realise that he wasn't actually talking about rappers running along rails in multi storey shopping centres.

  • he is taking a bit too long. who agrees?

  • I think the comment thread is even more funny than the clip. I can't believe it went on for so long.

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx well.. i have. i took two of your quotes that suggest racism on your part and posted them to back up my claims that you are a racist. which you had no answer for. weird, huh!

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx i called you a racist and backed it up with fact (something you failed to do with your wild accusations) and you just ignored it. is that something you get a lot?

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx Yes. Apparently very racist.

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx aaahahaha! you can barely spell, mate! i've stopped taking you seriously, you fucking racist. byebye

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx life is so much easier for you if you simplify everything in this way, isn't it?

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx go and count the number of grammatical and spelling errors you've made in our exchange and then weigh up which one of us is uneducated. ironic considering you're bashing people with a grasp of language and lyricism ten times that of your own. cheerio, you massive cunt!

  • May as well say words promote violence towards women. Some do if you put them in a certain order. Lots don't. Lots have nothing to do with it at all.

Sesame Street used rap to teach children the alphabet. There was no connected increase in sexual violence.

  • @benhoney74 before we get all worked up about CENTRALSCRUTINIZERZZXXXLOLWTF, let's remember this is someone who said that virtually all muslims agree with terrorism. he's obviously fairly mentally malformed and i'm done with him here!

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx anyone that can make such a sweeping generalisation about an entire genre of music that is contributed to by so many different people of every gender (including women), race, nationality, social class (perhaps to a slightly lesser extent), that covers so many topics and themes and is inspired by such a broad spectrum of influences is clearly a complete twat.

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx i've yet to hear any facts.

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx gangster rap (one small branch of a massive genre) is reflective of gang culture, it did not create it - i'm pretty sure that misogyny and gang violence predates the music industry just a little bit and will continue to do so, regardless of whether your bafflingly sensationalist opinion of it was true or not. try talking about something you understand - like sniffing your own farts or something.

  • @Stoate will continue to exist, rather*

  • @Stoate {i'm pretty sure that misogyny and gang violence predates the music industry just a little bit and will continue to do so}

How does that even make sense? Its like saying murder predates the holocaust and anti-semitism.

  • in response to the suggestion that rap music invented and/or perpetuates gang culture it makes perfect sense

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx he never said he likes rap music, you insufferable turd!

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx sorry, i just wanna check: you really, REALLY believe it? you're not just taking the piss here?

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx is this something you actually believe? that ALL rap music is misogynistic poison aiming to incite violence and hate against women? you ACTUALLY believe that? you probably believe too that lee concurs with your grossly misinformed opinion, wherein actual fact, the punchline of this joke is that he simply has no understanding of it. a bit like you, really!

  • @Stoate {that ALL rap music is misogynistic poison aiming to incite violence and hate against women?}

Most is hate-filled, arrogant, and glorifies criminality and promotes a psychotic anti-human culture. Diarrhea of the mind.

  • @mindprism no it isn't.

  • i suport sexual violence towards women

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx someone who's only knowledge about rap music comes from reading the daily mail probably shouldn't be passing judgment on it. "21-year-old junkie that loves rap music and loves to promote sexual violence towards women"? you forgot to add "who probably murdered someone after playing a violent computer game".

  • Opera uses images and jolly songs of ritualised murder, demonic possession, warfare, disease, slavery, rape, social and political oppression, infanticide, suicide, genocide, torture, child abduction, witchcraft, sadism, pornography, alcoholism, drug addiction, selling one's soul to the devil for supernatural gain etc etc as entertainment. Should be banned surely.

  • @benhoney74 And how many opera listeners are in jail for those things? What does that tell you about rap?

  • @mindprism how many nudists are in jail for those things? blast anyone that wears clothes!

  • @Stoate You are the one making the argument that Opera promotes violence in a way comparable with rap. I find it amazing you do so with a straight face. You must be a troll.

  • @mindprism where did i say that? i was just pointing out how arbitrary your point was. i understand how much easier it is to lump all blame onto one supposed cause for violence and anti-social behaviour but any one with any sense at all really should be able to work out there are more sociopolitical reasons for why these things happen than "music some people involved might listen to".

  • @Stoate {lump all blame onto one supposed cause for violence and anti-social behaviour}

Strawman. Like I said in my other post: A violent culture produces a violent art that glorifies its own violence is bound to produce more violence -- please point to the disconnect or falsity of that sentence.

There can be sociopolitical reasons for violence, but the problem with rap is that it shows no repentance - its just another step in the downward spiral.

  • @mindprism "A violent culture produces a violent art that glorifies its own violence is bound to produce more violence -- please point to the disconnect or falsity of that sentence."

should i start with the shaky syntax or go straight to the fact that you seem to have mistaken the rap artists' expression of the violence they have witnessed for a celebration of it?

"There can be sociopolitical reasons for violence,"

    ...

  • and you consistently refer to "rap" in this general sense. aren't you aware of the dozens of different branches of the genre that cover hundreds of themes and topics that come from virtually every nation? or is it gangster rap specifically you are trying to come up with an argument against?

  • @Stoate {dozens of different branches of the genre that cover hundreds of themes}

Thats nice, but why don't you assert something meaningful along the lines of "the most popular rap songs AREN'T about sex, pimpin, drugs and life in the hood".

I just reviewed the lyrics of the current top 10 raps and imagine my surprise when every single one of them was about bling, fuckin, cursin, dope and pimpin.

How could I have known? Magic huh.

  • @mindprism "about sex, pimpin, drugs and life in the hood.

I just reviewed the lyrics of the current top 10 raps and imagine my surprise when every single one of them was about bling, fuckin, cursin, dope and pimpin."

oh god! you are becoming a parody of yourself, mindprism!

  • @mindprism it's a shame this had to happen on the comments section of a video which you don't even understand the point of, by the way. i know some americans claim not to understand british humour but i should think it's fairly plain to see that, much to your probable disappointment, this is not an act that slanders rap music but, as wahzooo explained, riffs on the ignorant misconceptions people have of something that they slander despite having only a very fundamental level of exposure to.

  • @mindprism ohhhhh! i just made the mistake of looking at the other videos you seem to like and it turns out you're a racist! and a holocaust denier! that means that you are actually impervious to sense and therefore, much like that other chap, a waste of time.

  • @Stoate Well, it IS the twenty-first century -- and the long held political propaganda about racial equality and the Holocaust are indeed crumbling, sorry if that makes you sad.

    {they slander despite having only a very fundamental level of exposure to.}

I've just proven that that is all that is required -- the popular rap IS a contest in vulgarity and the only reason rap has survived is that it has morphed into verbal pornography.

  • @mindprism oh, yes, mindprism! you have proven beyond a shadow of a doubt everything you've claimed, backing it up as you did with hard fact as opposed to some tenuous claims promoted by the sort of very reliable source a 50-year-old bigot would use to learn about rap music. i am sure your misconception that rap music is only produced by black people coupled with your generally racist agenda didn't impede whatsoever on your i am sure earnest attempts at being impartial in this debate.

  • @Stoate {very reliable source} I used the current top 10 rap songs to show that it is about vulgarity and the "stereotypical" things people say about rap. I don't expect that to change anytime soon, do you?

    {rap music is only produced by black people}

    Strawman.

    {generally racist agenda }

Racist is a political status given to someone who doesn't accept certain ideas and no longer has anything to do with the person having irrational hatred of other races.

  • @mindprism Ok but so what? Most modern "culture" is a race to the bottom. Why is rap so much worse than others?

"The only reason rap has survived is that it has morphed into verbal pornography."

Painting with kind of a broad brush there aren't you? So is the only reason television is still being made Big Brother? Just because the most vulgar elements become the most popular you completely reject an art form?

Please pardon the vulgarity but what a load of bollocks.

  • @megamarsvin {Most modern "culture" is a race to the bottom.}

This is the culture being pushed by Jews who run Hollywood and music industry. They did the same thing in pre-war Germany. Hate it all you want, it remains true.

Rap is just an extreme example of the purpose of this in general, to destroy the morale and morality of a nation so it can be subjugated.

Blacks are being tools of their own demise haha and they won't believe it even when shoved in their face.

    How dumb can they be.

  • @mindprism lol oh Jesus, it's a Jewish conspiracy now? I didn't see that one coming. I think I'll extricate myself from this conversation, thanks all the same :D

  • @megamarsvin {a Jewish conspiracy now}

Whatever man, I just go where the evidence takes me. I don't let dogma dictate what I'm allowed to think. This is not only "crazy Mein Kampf" stuff, it is the self-admitted tactics of the International Communist Revolution.

What a coincidence that you find all these things "crazy talk", I wonder how that came about. And where is it written the Jews are incapable of conspiracy?

You need to examine the true purpose of your thoughts, as Socrates said.

  • @megamarsvin nothing like a bit of racism to go down on the forum of a comedy clip from mindprism

  • @chalkus Who knew the Jews were the ones that came up with rap? :D

  • @mindprism let's not forget that adolf hitler was an avid lover of opera (specifically wagner), as were many of his officers.

  • clicked dislike by accident. -1

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx okay troll. i'm done feeding you.

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx say no more. obvious troll is obvious.

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx hahah proven fact my ass! you are generalizing by only hand picking the rap on tv and radio. there are hundreds if not thousands of other rappers who don't get that treatment and who rap about everything BUT violence against woman. thats like saying all muslim people are terrorists because on tv all you see is them blowing shit up. grow the fuck up.

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx don't you realize how big of a generalization you are making here? not all rappers talk about beating up women. that's ridiculous. i don't think you know the genre enough to make a judgement like that.

  • the rap singers promote all types of violence not just sexual descriminated violence. Its a way of getting around quicker in gangs

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx Surely something that supposedly promotes sexual violence towards women isn't something that keeps the herd pacified and promotes conformity to social norms? That's a bit of a contradictory statement isn't it? Rap music has often been the most critical of society and has broke many social norms and boundaries first (not these days like...)

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx You're generalising a whole genre by saying that all rap music promotes sexual violence towards women, which is just clearly wrong

John Lennon was a famous woman beater, shall we say that all pop music promotes violence towards women while we're there?

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx Daring to deny a sweeping generalisation makes me a brain dead idiot? Okay :) You are aware it's very possible to be arrogant to the point of idiocy and the most intelligent individuals in this world are the most liberal and open minded?

  • @CentralScrutinizerxx That's a generalisation

  • morrissey's come out of his shell.

  • @TheVimtoMoustache Haha He reminds me of Morrissey aswell!

  • He loves the word 'Wool'

  • Edwyn Collins has let himself go

  • @KneejerkHateMachine edwin collins had a stroke actually

  • This is fucking excellent

  • That used to be the basis if the comedy behind Lee and Herring when he was part of that double act. If we repeat a sentance so many times it will become funny...IT WILL!!!! The only thing is that it is pretty funny but relies more on delivery rather than actual wit. Essentially that digression was just a build up for the one liner at the end. That is the kind of thing he used to mock in the Lee and Herring days. 'So I got off the bus...eh!'. Stewart Lee has become a lazy comedy slag! Oh irony!

  • Mischievous devil...lol.

  • wool!

  • Rappers = Skaters? :D

  • Amazing. As far from comedian as joke-smith as you can get.

  • I have no idea what he is doing here - but it works...lol. This is very creative comedy - not the usual! I don't even think there's a plan here - just funny end of.
