What size fuses do you have going to the ammeter? The wires seem a little undersized for any serious current.

Hi they say its safer to fuse both leads from a amp gauge ,.. safer .. lonnie

Woops, little mistake there, part of the comment above should read:

No need to fuse both positive and negative, that's way overkill. Normally fuses go only on the 'hot' leads, which in this case would be your negative from the battery (assuming a negative ground configuration).
