The Book of Mormon was published hundreds and hundreds of years ago, and Mormons believe that.

And also, yes, Mormon do believe the Journal of Discourses, they just don't believe those words because it causes a problem for them, so they just say "Oh, it was just his opinion," even though the Doctrine and Covenants says that a president of the Church will never mislead the people.
