Why are you still using a glove when you are handling the ferret kits? Understandable using one when handling a polecat, but a ferret is a domestic animal.
In NewZealand we have wild ferrets/ polecat hybrids. They were introduced 100 yrs ago to control rabbits, which was a bad idea. how these hybrids have become a true breeding version. Ive caught them by hand in rabbit borrows and have handled them without gloves immediatley, but try doing it after dark and they will bit hard.
what are you doing with my little brother? why are you holding him like that? he's not a stuffed animal ffs. wait. i'm gonna come to your house and pick you up by the scruff of the neck and hold you and talk to you.
I know what you mean with the biting/nipping mate even my new ferret x polecat is nippy but definately worth the effort and maybe pain :P look at the box at 1:18 aha
just a question because I don't have much knowledge on polecats or hunting ferrets: since they are being bred for hunting & not pets do you have to limit the amount of time you spend with them when not training or hunting? if they become too attached to you will they not hunt as well?
hey mate wouldnt mind haveing that first one to breed im not a expert but i know how to look after ferrets rekon would have some nice off spring dont u
i have 9 polecats and 12 ferrets and you dont need this guy they all bite but they learn not to in time if caught young, and gloves hide your smell which can make things worse, i have also caught 2 martins and 1 mink and i handle them with no gloves but yes i get bite but its getting better
@Davidferret Ok dick head this guy is a pro these are real pure 100 European pole cats pure !!!!!! a challenge for you big man if you are not a total cunt and a son of a bitch we challenge to film you handling these pole cats and if you can keep hold of them for 10 mins with no gloves you will get £500 if not we will get £500 I think that is fair dick head. Fucking utube pet homes piss me off u have a ferrite and now you are an expert on pole cats cunt!!!!!
@poochdvd@poochdvd I'm sorry but I have to agree with david. First of all, you dont take polecats and keep them as pets, thats just horrible and wrong. Second, you have to handle ferretkits as soon as they are born and you dont need gloves at all. I worked with alsmost every mustelid possible and never have used gloves. In comparison ferrets are just a piece of cake. And if you behave like this guy its no wonder you get bitten. They are not stupid and if they smell fear they react on it.
@ferretsworld6 Ok buddy only one way to prove what a pro you are I will film you handling the polecats at Russell’s house and post it on you tube. you must not wear any gloves at all. I am looking forward to seeing the results your buddy David is also welcome. if this challenge is not taken up in the next 30days would it be fair to say you are both full of shit!!!! bloody hell how many times these are working examples not basic pets. see you guys real soon!!!! I will make you famous
@poochdvd I'm sorry but I'm a Female...so don't buddy me.
I don't get why you have to be so aggressive, its just my opinion on the subject as an wildlife sanctuary employee. If you like to believe russels way of taking care of animals, that's your choice. But I can give you one tip, dont take the opinion of one guy for the whole truth. because there is always more to base your opinion on. If you ever visit the netherlands I could show you.
@poochdvd i have kept polecats still do and waht use is a working polecat if you cant handle them without gloves.you sir are an idiot and so is your mate.couple of fucking clowns!

@poochdvd Whereabouts is this guy then? I'd love to handle some polecat kits. How about a wager I can handle them for as long as the guy in the vid did with no gloves on!
@poochdvd Im not saying that you don't need the glove but I'd have to take that bet.I'd take a pretty nasty bite for that kind of money.I do understand those arent exactly pets like my ferrets though.
@poochdvd i know it annoys me when people tell me how to look after my ferrets, because they're a lot different in america to here in the UK, i've got a ferret/polecat half breed and that isn't to great to handle so this guy obviously knows his stuff.
No, to "domesticate" means transforming a species into a new version, by selection (mostly inbreeding). It has nothing to do with botter-feeding a baby polecat.
A polecat will stay a polecat, as a wolf will stay a wolf and will never become a dog !
It's a transport box , mine lives in a 15ft by 15ft natural run. But it is kept in ferret box similar to this when taken out. It encourages the ferret to go to sleep in transit, not down a hole.
Why is this guy handling the kits with a glove on????? ferrets and polecats are practically the same both can be used for working, all ferrets and polecats are excellent little pets they need LOTS of LOVE and attention and if treated right they will give you lots of love & fun in return, i have six and each 5from kits and not one of them bit nastely
@meyarz - I don't know about you but I have a ferret, that was bred to be a pet, and she bites HARD! Like thru my fingers! I have spent many, many hours with her and she still bites. I will continue to work with her as she is my pet & I hope to win her over. I understand why he wears gloves, if you don't you are welcome to try to hold my little biter! :)
oh & just to let you know I have 10 ferrets that DON'T bite & they love to cuddle and play.
@bibliophilicwoman LOL funny you should mention... I had 13 rescue kits come to me a month or so ago all unhandled and about 11weeks old, all have been sucessfully rehomed bar one, who is a lil bugger infact he caught me yesterday and yes it did hurt still does, but using gloves will not teach them that it is not ok to bite, quite the opposite!
i have 10 ferrets altogether including 4 kits,i have found through my own experience that handling them with dirty hands encourages nipping (perhaps smelling food etc on hands),feel free to email me if you wish to comment as i may not get to see these posts again for a while
to all fools that don"t polcats stop takeing piss and buy one and see what there about fuckin sad wankers i breed loads of them so i know what there about yours truly russell
ok let me see a video clip of you handling pole cat kits or adult with no gloves then i will give you some respect untill then could you please shut ur fucking stupid dumb ass mouth
I kinda have to agree. You have no need to be handling them with the glove, they are more than likely going to bite you wearing that than bare hands they think its a toy.
A few flicks on the nose if they nip you, or a squeeze on the edges of their jaws if they really nip you teaches them not to do it.
Please don't give me any crap either about me not knowing what I'm talking about, cos I do.
Replying to you is actually fucking silly of me. I am so tired of twits like you that barely have pubic hairs making comments about issues you do not have a fucking clue about. These are not kept as cuddly pets these are used for hunting rabbits you fuckwit the polecats featured on this DVD will kill a small dog!!!! Or better still rip the fingers of punks like you!!! Dont be a cunt all you life try and qualify the situation before babbling amateur baby gooooeeee.
hmm........so you cant really handle a polecat as a normal pet? Its just for huntiong or is it kind of like a pet? I wanted a ferret and my mom aid no so im on the search for animals like ferrets or look like ferrets!
@StreetxFox A ferret, because they are actually a domesticated version of the European polecat; however, I do not believe a ferret would be the best choice for a family with a young child. Ferrets have a tendency to play quite rough. Although durability is typically a positive aspect of a pet, ferrets are not only durable for their size, but play rough, and ferrets have very sharp canines. Ferrets make great pets, but they are not recommended for families with small children.
@madiana101 the truth is the truth there are far to many idiots making comments about things they know absolutely nothing about. Pooch DVD helps to educate!! our clients are the poor pets that end up in the hands of Muppets. stupidity will be slapped down hard!!!!
LOL do you actually know the difference between Ferrets and Polecats? (not Polecat as in colour either)... they aren't goo to keep as pets. Are very wild and bite alot... they are unpredictable and can be very nasty. You own a Polecat or even a hybrid and see if you handle it without gloves LOL.
Why are you still using a glove when you are handling the ferret kits? Understandable using one when handling a polecat, but a ferret is a domestic animal.

because polecats are a native and protected species, classed as rare also, do you not need a dangerous wild animal license to keep them?

whats the story with the shark glove ?
They wil never get used to be handled by a human hand if it feels like a rough thick glove.
Was the polecat kit captive bred ?
If so, I can kinda see the reason for caution, they will be a LOT harder to tame.
