Actually Patti speaks about this concert in her autobiography. Dionne told her repeatedly to tone it down so as to not overpower the other two and finally one day Patti just blew up at her and told her if she didn't want her in the show the way she is she should just have asked someone else to do it. Apparently the issue was never discussed again after that.

I thought this was superb. Patti can be a bit O.T.T. sometimes but I thought she was quite restrained here and tastful, three of my favourite ladys' thank you ramsdenrik.

All of these ladies are well-loved by their fans. Each is equally powerful. But from this performance, Patti can HOLLA! That's not a bad thing. She can sang. Nobody said she can't, she's Patti Labelle, everybody knows that, even these ladies. It's great entertainment. Besides Empress of Soul Gladys Knight produced the show she could have edited what she wanted out, She's not threaten by anyone.

I should also add that each of these gifted women were nominated individually for a cable ace award for their respective performances in this show, and other nominees in the category included Liza and Barbara Streisand. Patti won the award, so I think the majority of people understood that she wasn't just standing on a stage screaming. She really was the standout of that show. Her extraordinary skill and talent was rewarded...and justifiably so.

Call is belting, wailing, screaming or whatever...Aretha, Gladys, Chaka and so many others have done it as part of an ensemble. Patti gets a bum rap because her voice is bigger and louder, not to mention she's got a range on top of all that power. Those high notes will kill a heffa! This show reinforced for me the greatness of Gladys, and I had forgotten what an amazing singer Dionne was. They both were excellent. But Patti soared here..when you have a gift like that you don't hold back!!!

This is always a comment from someone who cant sing a lick. It is not screaming when your voice is in key with the song. It's called power. And anyone who puts I and millions of others is so full of themselves. You ask any artist and they will tell you Patti is one bad B. i don't think what people really understand what screaming is. Patti is ALL VOICE! If you've ever been to a live concert of hers you know that. Screaming in my opinion is that screaching sound when the chords can't take it. Patti does not do that. It is all voice my friend. If you'd hear her live she blows you out of your seat with voice!!

That's MY opinion, that's what I believe, like I said there's nothing wrong with screaming, Ms Patti is a singer and she can scream on note. But she even says it herself, but I think she said Holla!. And I've seen her a few times live and technically it's not screaming. I love her, but Jennifer Holliday screams a lot these days because she doesn't have the range but she "screams" notes where her voice screaches. Patti's voice is just big, huge.

So when she is with other singers you really she how much power she has and the fans of the other singers get mad because of her range and power. Plus over the years singer has been watered down so much that people dont know what good singing is. All of these ladies were great on this clip.

You read it wrong. Gladys always encourages Patti to sing the high parts. Those gestures are ways of getting patti to sing in her upper range. Those three ladies are very good friends and they try to influence other black artists to act in the same way.
