I used to live in San Francisco and near Sausalito, there was this community of people who lived on houseboats. Their boats were so creative! you can't imagine. they build little bridges from one house to another above the mud.(most of the time it was mud, but sometimes they were above the water. I don't think they went anywhere, just lived in the houseboats. I took pictures of them.
How do you keep her from running off? My cats would just run off. I let them out in my yard and they stay there mostly,or the neighbor's yard,but They are used to being around here.
I used to have three cats who would do that when I lived out in the country in Arkansas. I think they did it,because they were starving. We were poor and they didn't get much to eat. At the time I though it was cute, but now I realize that was probably the reason. We took a long walk every evening and they followed us all around the countryside.

Iris is very familiar with the waterfront. So it is not a strange place. She will often just follow me around.
