second guy isn't midori. first is undeniably matsui
seems to me the flaws in kyokushin come out right here - they technically learn how to punch to the face, but in application they have no moving targets with which to practise. combos are thus nonexistant, and against face-punchers they try to rely on single kicks to close the distance (further prompting the taikiken men to take them down). disappointing.
@ubersum1 you saying that taikikenkas are bad practitioners. You are mistaken. Kyokushin fighters faced muay thai fighters and they won. You are assuming that your theories are correct. But reality is reality.
that's not what i'm saying at all. i'm impressed by these taikiken fellows, and i've always been impressed by karateka. but your reality is steeped in propaganda. the guys who went to thailand to fight knew how to play the distance game of kickboxing, and patched up holes in their arsenal with judo-like throws. pure karateka can't close distance or box or make combos very well, this has been proven many times. boxing is too big an omission. still my fav martial art, but quite flawed.

Great Masters as Kancho Matsui and Shihan Royam, great champions such as Hajime Kazumi Taiki Ken practiced assiduously in their constant search for "ultimate truth". In Europe, the most striking character of Taiki Ken of the second half of the century was undoubtedly that Kallenbach Master January after shining in the world of Kyokushinkai, Taiki Ken studied for many years under the direct supervision of Master Sawai. And some people here make me laugh... Just martial arts otaku...
who is supposed to rappresent taikiken, is only a few months practitioner, fighting against a black belt who is obviously superior as martial artist. This doesnt mean taikiken is not good. Taikiken needs several years to be learned and to be able to use it in combat. This guy has not learn so much about taikiken yet.
@8stepsifu What? The karatekas got their ases kicked by old nonsense men, imagine what a boxer would do to these karate guys, kyokushin lost all my respect.
When I was young, a fisherman told me how to fight. He told me to think about the constant and singlular idea of a mobius...my fighting ability, my understanding of combat changed dramatically. I'm not saying I can kick much ass, but I got a better grasp of my strengths and weaknesses in combat(physical & mental) from the thought. You can't jump with unbent knees or do push-ups with unbent elbows. He also taught me an old taoist secret to manage/believe in telekinetic prowess(ink&paper trick).
Wow one of the guys got the muay thai clinch going towards the end. And was he actually clawing at the other guy? Seems like a dangerous technique to use.
I think the taikiken guy did quite well against a much stronger opponent. However, all the techniques in the Sawai;'s book begin with the opponent punching or kicking first, and no kicks are used. The techniques can be summarized as follows" block down whenever possible when the attack almost hits you while stepping in and simultaneously counter punching.

i'm impressed. taikiken a martial art that focuses mainly on standing meditation really did hold its own against a tough hardened kyokushin black belt. i think this video shows us neither is better but you need both. good internal power training and sufficient sparring and fighting practice.
To mention MMA after watching this is retarded. this is awesome- a bunch of guy's doing bare-knuckle hard contact fighting years before anyone heard the term "MMA" or "UFC". If you can't appreciate this you are not a martial arts fan.
There seems to be a lot of people name dropping but there are non of the fighters mentioned in the video (GPS, Bas Rutten, Yahara,Kagawa,Mori) as far as this video is concerned both fighters are holding their own. Martial arts are like religion, It can close your mind to other martial arts or it can open your mind and allow you to see validity in other styles
That's right Taikiken doesn't protect the legs. When fighting for your life, you protect your vital areas and attack your attacker's.This doesn't carry over to sparring.
but that goes the same for first few Tai-ki-Ken fighters as well.
Overall;the Kyokushin better at attacking
and TaiKiKen better at counterattacking.
Leg catching, sweeping, grabbing and throws are considered Street Fighting to Kyokushin Fighters which is why Ashihara was famous and known as a Master of Karate and Street Fighting and not some of the notable Kyokushin masters.
i have to say yes and no. the guys from taikiken should be used to punches to the head. but like the kyokushin guys they look a bit uncontrolled. so i say yes for just the look. all that swinging, eyes down in some fights. pure kyokushin looks better.
i have to say no because it shows clearly the more important thing. more important then the look of it. respect and fighting spirit! OSU!
this isnt tai chi, its a different style called taikiken based on the chinese style called Yiquan. Although the japanese version uses the same name as the chinese taichi, it doesnt share the same principles or training techniques. As far as I know, taikiken doesnt use any sort of forms or techniques, which is the basis of the style which the chinese have named "Yi Quan", or "Mind Boxing" in english.
On a recent trip to japan, I met with a Taikiken master. After a few hours of discussion, we had a little sparring match. He got into a weird posture and slapped me in the face a few times before I figured out what he was doing. He later told me that he hadnt had any technique training, just training about how to issue power in different directions. Once you know how to issue power through various methods, its easy to use whatever attack you want to beat an opponent, in my case it was a slap.
Taiki Ken does share similar principles with Tai Chi Chuan. Yi Chuan, which Taiki Ken is derived from is part of the Nejia(internal family) along with Tai Chi Chuan, Bagua Zhang, and a few less familiar arts. Yi Chuan is still sometimes considered a branch of Xing Yi Chuan. Also the "ki" in Taiki Ken and the "chi" in Tai Chi Chuan are not the same character.

Style/timing/technique goes out of the window in real situations! These are two highly trained martial artists fighting full contact- they either cancel each other out, or prove that fancy techniques simply do not work as well as they are made out to by so called 'experts'.
u guys r all fukenm retearded watch the other vid wehere this tournament happens again this was their first encounter soo kyokushin din know what to do the second fight u can clearlyh see that we are winning KYOKUSHINKAIKAN YERAH YEAH 4:20!
These guys are aggressive! Hardcore bare knuckles, taking hits and keep going with awesome technique. This video alone can teach somebody half of what they need to know about fighting. I am impressed. Doesn't GSP practice Kyokushin karate?
Doesn't matter who beats who. It depends on who studied the arts and nobody represents the arts themselves. Anyway this is an interesting clip, thank you.
They probably allow it due to the fact that it's taikiken vs kyokushin .. seems unfair because Kyokushin is not a direct face attack and the Kyokushin user doesn't seem to hit hard (feels awkward.)
Not to mention the fact that Mas Oyama, the styles founder studied Taikiken. Taikiken is the Japanese name for Yi Quan which is a Chinese martial art. So congratulations on proving your ignorance even further. But oh wait it doesnt end there...you also said that Kyokushin resembles Wing Chun??? ROFL! What in Kyokushin resembles Wing Chuns chain punches, its centerline theory, chi sao practice? This is excluding the fact that in Wing Chun there are hardly any kicks above the waist. Rofl.
amen brotha this osensei guy has no idea what he's talking about he is obviously ignorant to martial arts but trys to be a know it all when ever fucking thing he said is retarded and WRONG.. i so wish i could get a knee straight to your nose (which in thai is called the kao loi) so you can see how much stronger us muay thai fighters really are...
Osensei is a moron. Kyoukushin fighters have proven that they can adapt to face contact, many fighters in K1 and other kickboxing venues practice Kyokushin Karate and have done pretty well.
Dumbass! K1 fighters and kickboxers are professionally trained! You can't fight in a pro ring and train in a McDojo you fool! Yes, maybe they practice Kyokushin as a hobby, but I guarantee their "sensei" is not the one that prepared them for the ring!
Dude what the fuck are you talking about? You make no sense whatsoever. Like I said many Kyokushin fighters have trained in the dojo and have competed in not only K1, but many other kickboxing events, even under Muay Thai ruleset. And if their sensei doesn't train them to compete who does? I'm sure they are more than qualified to train the fighter. Most of them have competed in kickboxing or full contact bouts themselves.
It's also hilarious that you called a Kyokushin school a mcdojo. Do you know anything about martial arts? Kyokushin has you working techniques against actively resisting opponents, sparring, and conditioning, pretty much the basic needs for any martial arts school to not be a mcdojo. I honestly think you have no clue about the martial arts. How about you just get the fuck off the net.
I everything about Kyokushin karate and all of their training methods and 100 man kumite BS! You're the only fucking noob here! Especially if you think you can step in the pro ring with that BS! Let's see a kyokushin fighter jump into the ring with Anderson Sylva or Cung Lee instead of these no name scrubs you show them beating up on youtube!
Um wow. You know everything about their training methods eh? Fyi, thats not a training method, its a challenge available to high ranking black belts. If its such BS, lets see if you have the training and toughness to get out there and face a 100 people. Ever heard of Andy Hug? Excellent Kyokushin Karate fighter and KICKBOXER. In fact if you look up the history of kickboxing in Japan you will see that it was made by dun dun dun...Karate fighters from KYOKUSHIN.
You don't have to be tough when your opponent can't touch you! I'd rather have a fighting strategy that doesn't involve me taking punishment intentionally! Kyokushin fighters will stand there and let you hit them! This is because they know you can strike them in the face! I would've love to see one stand in front of Tyson before he lost his fucking mind or big George Foreman!
if Kyoukushin is such BS, how about you face one of their fighters and post it up on youtube. Do you even practice any martial art? hell, do you even know how to fight? And for christ sakes its Cung Le not Cung Lee you fucking moron.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Kyokushin wins in K-1 (against no named scrubs)! Kyokushin Kai beats Mauy Tai fighters (underweight, skinny no named scrubs)! Kyokushin says Kung Fu is too weak! But the guys in this video, although Japanese have a similar style to Cantonese Wing Chun and you best senseis got bitch slapped!
Lmao, you just wont admit youre wrong will you? Kyokushin beats no named scrubs huh? If I remember correctly Andy Hug defeated Mirko Cro Cop, a damn good kickboxer whos also a UFC fighter now. And those "underweight" Muay Thai fighters you speak of can probably break shin bone in two with one well aimed kick. Where the hell do you get the "Kyokushin says Kung Fu is too weak?" are you fucking retarded? Youre going to judge a style based on what one or two people associated with Kyokushin thinks?
actually if u look at the sparring carefully, The taikiken guys are actually quite good, they are using internal strength alot thats why most of the kyokushin guys get hit back a distance at the first strike. On the other hand the kyokushin guys are conditioned get back right up.
I'm not siding taikiken or kyokushin. Its just how it is when 2 different arts react to each other. I got to hand it to both sides cause they reacting very fast and adjusting to the blows they are taking and they are really hard blows. I know theres alot of kyokushin supporters here but remember to always see the other side of the picture. On the other hand for haters please don't post ignorant comments that actually insults yourselves and your form of martial arts.
The taikiken guys seem to have been trained in sensitivity similar to Wing Chun and Filipino Kali! Wing Chun, by the way, is what a lot of these hardass karate proponents called Bullshido! Wing Chun never stood a chance against Kyokushin because Kyokushin rules don't allow face strikes! This suggests what would have happened if they had allowed the Chunners to use all of their techniques in the first place!
this is what we called a good example of controled fight, this is not a tournament, it's just a sparring.
some people here needs to understand that it's not that easy to fight against another fighter from a different style, sometimes we understimate other disciplines.
by the way: Kancho Shokei Matsui fought well, Flashy movements are not everything.
these taikiken guys are rather something

Kyokushin is just better. Karate is the best striking art ever created.

To mention MMA after watching this is retarded. this is awesome- a bunch of guy's doing bare-knuckle hard contact fighting years before anyone heard the term "MMA" or "UFC". If you can't appreciate this you are not a martial arts fan.
derspatero 2 years ago
There seems to be a lot of people name dropping but there are non of the fighters mentioned in the video (GPS, Bas Rutten, Yahara,Kagawa,Mori) as far as this video is concerned both fighters are holding their own. Martial arts are like religion, It can close your mind to other martial arts or it can open your mind and allow you to see validity in other styles

That's right Taikiken doesn't protect the legs. When fighting for your life, you protect your vital areas and attack your attacker's.This doesn't carry over to sparring.

one of the biggest shotokan fighters(Yahara,Kagawa,Mori) would kill them all....btw

Taikiken Gi look weird O.o?
Tobekun 3 years ago 2
The Kyokushin fighters looked like brawlers;
but that goes the same for first few Tai-ki-Ken fighters as well.
Both have pros and cons.
But its normal and okay.

joshtakezo said it makes kyokushin look bad.
i have to say yes and no. the guys from taikiken should be used to punches to the head. but like the kyokushin guys they look a bit uncontrolled. so i say yes for just the look. all that swinging, eyes down in some fights. pure kyokushin looks better.
i have to say no because it shows clearly the more important thing. more important then the look of it. respect and fighting spirit! OSU!

this is bull shit tai chi .... the fighters actions goes against the very principles of taichi . he faceing force with force .
kashen1 3 years ago
this isnt tai chi, its a different style called taikiken based on the chinese style called Yiquan. Although the japanese version uses the same name as the chinese taichi, it doesnt share the same principles or training techniques. As far as I know, taikiken doesnt use any sort of forms or techniques, which is the basis of the style which the chinese have named "Yi Quan", or "Mind Boxing" in english.
Kormiku 3 years ago
oh no wonder this looks so wried .. thanks anyway . still bullshit though
kashen1 3 years ago
On a recent trip to japan, I met with a Taikiken master. After a few hours of discussion, we had a little sparring match. He got into a weird posture and slapped me in the face a few times before I figured out what he was doing. He later told me that he hadnt had any technique training, just training about how to issue power in different directions. Once you know how to issue power through various methods, its easy to use whatever attack you want to beat an opponent, in my case it was a slap.
Kormiku 3 years ago

This is new to me. I have never seen a kyokushin fight where hand strikes to the face were legal and the fight was not over after a knock down.
HumpN81 4 years ago
They probably allow it due to the fact that it's taikiken vs kyokushin .. seems unfair because Kyokushin is not a direct face attack and the Kyokushin user doesn't seem to hit hard (feels awkward.)

great video!
Osu!
Thrashedbilly 4 years ago

So this is what happens when a Kyokushin karateka fights with non-Kyokushin rules... he gets slapped in the face repeatedly.

this is typical sparring 30% power not full.
agutinoff 4 years ago
Osensei is a moron. Kyoukushin fighters have proven that they can adapt to face contact, many fighters in K1 and other kickboxing venues practice Kyokushin Karate and have done pretty well.
CRDFightClub 4 years ago
Dumbass! K1 fighters and kickboxers are professionally trained! You can't fight in a pro ring and train in a McDojo you fool! Yes, maybe they practice Kyokushin as a hobby, but I guarantee their "sensei" is not the one that prepared them for the ring!
osensei2987 4 years ago
Dude what the fuck are you talking about? You make no sense whatsoever. Like I said many Kyokushin fighters have trained in the dojo and have competed in not only K1, but many other kickboxing events, even under Muay Thai ruleset. And if their sensei doesn't train them to compete who does? I'm sure they are more than qualified to train the fighter. Most of them have competed in kickboxing or full contact bouts themselves.
CRDFightClub 4 years ago
It's also hilarious that you called a Kyokushin school a mcdojo. Do you know anything about martial arts? Kyokushin has you working techniques against actively resisting opponents, sparring, and conditioning, pretty much the basic needs for any martial arts school to not be a mcdojo. I honestly think you have no clue about the martial arts. How about you just get the fuck off the net.
CRDFightClub 4 years ago
I everything about Kyokushin karate and all of their training methods and 100 man kumite BS! You're the only fucking noob here! Especially if you think you can step in the pro ring with that BS! Let's see a kyokushin fighter jump into the ring with Anderson Sylva or Cung Lee instead of these no name scrubs you show them beating up on youtube!
osensei2987 4 years ago
CRDFightClub 4 years ago 2
You don't have to be tough when your opponent can't touch you! I'd rather have a fighting strategy that doesn't involve me taking punishment intentionally! Kyokushin fighters will stand there and let you hit them! This is because they know you can strike them in the face! I would've love to see one stand in front of Tyson before he lost his fucking mind or big George Foreman!
osensei2987 4 years ago
if Kyoukushin is such BS, how about you face one of their fighters and post it up on youtube. Do you even practice any martial art? hell, do you even know how to fight? And for christ sakes its Cung Le not Cung Lee you fucking moron.
CRDFightClub 4 years ago 3
This comment has received too many negative votes show
Kyokushin wins in K-1 (against no named scrubs)! Kyokushin Kai beats Mauy Tai fighters (underweight, skinny no named scrubs)! Kyokushin says Kung Fu is too weak! But the guys in this video, although Japanese have a similar style to Cantonese Wing Chun and you best senseis got bitch slapped!
osensei2987 4 years ago
Lmao, you just wont admit youre wrong will you? Kyokushin beats no named scrubs huh? If I remember correctly Andy Hug defeated Mirko Cro Cop, a damn good kickboxer whos also a UFC fighter now. And those "underweight" Muay Thai fighters you speak of can probably break shin bone in two with one well aimed kick. Where the hell do you get the "Kyokushin says Kung Fu is too weak?" are you fucking retarded? Youre going to judge a style based on what one or two people associated with Kyokushin thinks?
CRDFightClub 4 years ago 3
only fu.. is that matsui?

of course its not matsui. Do you see how sluggish those kyokushin fighters are ? No wonder they got owned
Sandmunky 4 years ago
It is matsui.
zengyun 4 years ago
prolly when he was still noobish -_-''
Sandmunky 4 years ago
actually if u look at the sparring carefully, The taikiken guys are actually quite good, they are using internal strength alot thats why most of the kyokushin guys get hit back a distance at the first strike. On the other hand the kyokushin guys are conditioned get back right up.
zengyun 4 years ago
I'm not siding taikiken or kyokushin. Its just how it is when 2 different arts react to each other. I got to hand it to both sides cause they reacting very fast and adjusting to the blows they are taking and they are really hard blows. I know theres alot of kyokushin supporters here but remember to always see the other side of the picture. On the other hand for haters please don't post ignorant comments that actually insults yourselves and your form of martial arts.
zengyun 4 years ago
The taikiken guys seem to have been trained in sensitivity similar to Wing Chun and Filipino Kali! Wing Chun, by the way, is what a lot of these hardass karate proponents called Bullshido! Wing Chun never stood a chance against Kyokushin because Kyokushin rules don't allow face strikes! This suggests what would have happened if they had allowed the Chunners to use all of their techniques in the first place!
osensei2987 4 years ago

this is what we called a good example of controled fight, this is not a tournament, it's just a sparring.
some people here needs to understand that it's not that easy to fight against another fighter from a different style, sometimes we understimate other disciplines.
by the way: Kancho Shokei Matsui fought well, Flashy movements are not everything.
