  • why would you cut fat off the meat?

  • @jazzplayer9 The fat makes the meat go bad or rancid faster.

  • Damn it, this is making me Hunger now.

  • @SuburbanShinobi8000 Plus, What Muslim Eat is Mostly, Dear, and Cows. Never a pig those.

  • IN all fairness this is a very good how to video, probably the best I've seen, for home. But it's a bad video because it does not follow the Pathfinder philosophy of function and results quickly. This is not a slam against you personally. In a survival situation I really like the "Deadeye Deer processing, way" far better. There are some videos here on youtube check them out. I try to learn something from everyone that I can.

  • Do not get me wrong here but i think that it's not very artistic , what i mean is you not de-bone the hind legs and pelvis the best way possible. The way i was shown was to 1 ) find the bone closer to the surface 2 ) make a cut to that bone ( parallel to it ) 3 ) " skin " the meat from the bone. What that does is you get one major piece of meat and not bits and pieces. Overall a great instructional video , not a lot of people know about the "fish" ( even in Greece we call it that way lol )

  • Great video, but isnt it illegal to kill white tail deer? Pennsylvania state animal and all.

  • despite what some of you say, this was actually a very useful and educational video.

  • fucken red neck stuped pendejo

  • @Jchuy0519 Cinga tu madre huey

  • neck roast. I take this and soak it in a Meade for 24 hrs. with garlic onions and little cayenne pepper, lime juice an then rap it in a sheet.then i build a fire in the ground and once the coals die down then I place the neck in and cover it back up with dirt and let it cook of 12 hr.Man when that comes out it falls of the bone and ummmmm

  • Dam theres a lot of meat on them ribs Some ones been babying that deer.

  • well you just shown me how to do it ,thanks bro

  • Doesn't the CWD sit in the spine, by cutting that up don't you risk contaminating the meat?

  • Thanks very much I sectioned my first hind quarter last night. well done. I got three roasts...One I cut into steaks...and lots of stew meat.

  • Thanks so much for posting this. I found it all very informative.

  • Not bad, but I do the leg by seperating the muscle groups and then makeing steaks, Why would you put the sirloins into Burger? Shank makes great soup. All deer fat needs to be removed or you have some nasty tasting meat.

    rj

  • Great vid. My schedule doesn't seem to match up w/friends hunts but ya make it look easy so Think I'll have to give it a go next year Also got stuck w/step dad didn't want to kill bambi LOL!

  • Give me the back straps

  • great video dude i miss hunting raised most my life on venison

  • Good job brother.. rock on!

  • Is that a Mora Clipper you're using? Great knife and great video

  • I'm from California (originally from Tennessee) I'm probably wrong but that looks like about 1000 dollars worth of meat. I just started hunting with a buddy. If I get one of those I'm defiantly gonna need a separate freezer. Great video. I never Imagined that much meat would come from one deer.

  • This video made me soo hungry

  • Awesome video

  • damn! now i'm hungry again! thanks for the hard work and time you put into this video!

  • thanks for the vid man really helps me out not spending the cash or losing meat on a butcher!! keep rocking! and safe hunting! this is my 3rd season!! im loving it here in massachusetts!

  • Great video. Thanks for the information. Keep up the good work.

  • on the rear end u can work your knife into the ball socket and pop it loose and cut threw the meat instead of using a saw thats what i do anyways

  • 5 people dis like this but behind those doors at the store this is what happens back ther i would take home don like this than store bought vension any day.

  • 5 people prolly think this is cruel and we should buy our meat at the store where it's made...

  • Good video Thank you

  • So many questions on "What comes next"? ...

    1) Aging: 40/40 ? (40 days at 40 degrees ? (seems excesive) ... Limits ?

    2) What if you do not have a fridge/freezer ? ... Smoking/Jerking, etc. (other?).

    3) What might one rub on the hung carcass, to keep it from spoiling (and bugs)

i.e. ... How would one process this, in the wilderness, so that one or two people might get the most benefit, before total spoilage ? ... Time limits ? What would an indian scout have done ... and not done ?

  • I really shouldn't have just eaten before watching this...

  • @Killbore1 Lol, I was eating Pizza pops while watching this, and after I finished, paused the video, brought my plate up, and looked at the plate, and said "Damn, raw deer meat looks so much better than that".

  • Very helpful video for someone like myself who does not know any hunters.Pathfinder is just awsome, helping feed the world 1 viewer at a time. With meat cost rising hunting is becoming more of a need. One question-whats is sinu used for, thanks pathfinder you have put much needed food in my freezer.

  • How long can you have that meat out like that before it starts to spoil, and rigimortis sets in

  • @danietkissenle As he says in the beginning it is 35 degrees outside so it should be fine. When an internal temperature of meat starts getting too close to 50 you want to get it in the fridge.

  • best deer dressing video on u tube,it is good to know how to do for survival.with food cost on the rise at the age of 33 I will try deer hunting for the first time,I going with a crossbow for quick humane harvest and no missed leg shots.thanks for the knowledge and salute to Dave great tips love the show

  • did watching this make any1 else hungry! cheers for the vids keep them coming

    Ayrshire, Scotland

  • this is indeed the worst butchering of a deer ive seen but then agian i come froma hunting family but then again each person has his own way

  • I love how he down plays wat he is doin, "Im no professional deer butcher by any means, but the point of this is if we were in a self reliant situation..." He does just fine at butcherin up deer to use for your family in any means. He helped me out alot because i want to start processing my own deer to save $

  • <<< are a big hunting family...and we all thought this was 1 well done and spokin post on dressin out a deer ...thank you and job well ....peace and god bless bro

  • What model is the big mora? Great info in all the videos by the way. Thanks for posting.

  • That's some good eatin' right there.

  • YEAH I JUST WANTED TO AGGREE WITH EVERONE ELSE ON HERE I VE KILLED THREE DEER THIS YEAR MY FIRST THREE EVER IVE PROCESSED THEM ALL MY SELF WENT TO TRACTOR SUPPLIE GOT A 100 DOLLAR GRINDER AND SAVED ME ALOT AND THE MEAT IS GREAT I LIKE IT MORE THEN BEEF GREAT VIDIO

  • good job what was it a buck or a doe

  • This guy doesn't know what the tenderloins are!

  • when it comes to deboning, I have found that a Filet knife works better because it allows you to bend around the bones and then (if done right) you don't have to go back and do so much cleaning of the bones.

  • ok now im hungry

  • great video....keep em' comin.

  • I gotta tell ya man, that was an awsome video! Thank you very much! I've been wanting to start processing my own deer, but I thought it would require me to purchase expensive equipment like a band saw. I already have a burger grinder and I have a good knife and a good saw, so it looks like I'm ready to try my hand at it. I've always been intimidated at the thought of cutting steaks. I guess the worst that could happen is I would end up with a big mess of deer burger, lol. Thanks again man!

  • Your a damn good teacher son!!!, been learning(relearning)alot from all you videos, Thank you.....Rich

  • if you have a good flat knife you can get the blood clots out with out messing the meat up o and wat the hell is cnue

  • if you have a good flat knife you can get the blood clots out with out messing the meat up

  • ooomggggg :o im so hungry now D:

  • add bacon with your burger when u grind it up relly tasty : P

  • If you are having trouble withkeeping your hands warm put a pair of cheap neoprene gloves on, then latex over top. this keeps your prenes dry and your hands warm.

  • My dad made me process my own deer for the first time and it definitely isnt as easy as it looks. You did about five thousand times better than i did.

  • after seeing all the meat you just took off that deer, Ive been getting robbed by the butcher man. thanks to this video that wont happen ever again. thanks bud....

  • @swtchbckshtr Its called a "butcher tax" and I'm pretty sure every butcher charges it!

  • hey man great vid! I've learned a lot so I can start processing my own this year.

    thanks

  • why do i hate manual saws.

    Cordless band saw!

Or next time bring an axe!

  • all that red meat is making me hungry, summer sausage breakfast, we usualy just pay like 35 bux to have em processed but its good to know what to do. ..............................ewwwee them backstrap, off to the fridge for my summer sausage

  • do you add any fat to your burger when you grind it?

  • Awesome man very informative and just wanted to bump for support maan thanks!

  • iv learned allot watching the wildernessoutfitter videos but this is one video that you guys need some help with. in a survival situation this would work fine but when its going in the freezer there's allot better ways of doing it so if you plan on butchering you own deer this season i suggest you watch more videos and have someone experienced to help you your first time

  • very imformitive..great job on this video

  • My god, a lot of wasted loins and strips for "burger meat". Very informative yes, but seems you are more of a burger and roast guy although you did one part of steaks(very little).

  • You've done that a few times, eh? You make it look easy while still showing how tedious it is. If it's not for survival, I'd pay to have that done!

  • i still think you wasted alot of meat most of that hamburger was better than the steak cuts all meat very little fat

  • Oh ya nice vid thanx

  • Down here in Texas we use a butcher and filet knife to do all that just letten ya know it makes it alot esaier to butcher

  • i subscribed

  • thanks brother... great vid

  • Very helpful video, like that comment "were the steaks live"

  • made my mouth water

  • Great Video! I have killed and processed a few myself, but like you said, I by no means a professional. I always like to watch others. Everyone has their own way of doing it and I try to learn tricks and tips from everyone I watch. Thanks! It looks cold out there. Did you have a warm type glove under the rubber gloves??

  • Thanks Steve, I'm learning a lot!

  • "This is where the steaks live" at 15:00. Hilarious! Thanks for the informative series. Books can only take a person so far. Seeing something done is invaluable.

  • I just want to say that this video series on deer processing from start to finish has been very informative for me. I grew up in a non hunting family and so I've learned a lot here. Looking forward to hunting my first deer, maybe next season.Thank you so much for taking the time to get this on video and get it up on youtube. You rock, man.

  • @tabre Same here.......thanks..

  • @tabre i totally agree ive been hunting 3 times and each time i have the butcher do it! now i can do it bye myself!

  • A video on making the burger and or sasage would be awsome

  • I learn something new every time I watch your videos. Thanks for teaching us your way of getting this done.

  • Great video Critter! I was wondering if the meat was still good on that back broken leg or did you have to discard it? If possible, I would like to see a video on making a knife handle from deer bone.

    Keep the great videos coming!!

  • Excellent video Steve. Keep up the great work. Would like to see a video on tanning the hide.

  • That wuz the best video iv seen on processing so far thank you man

  • Very cool. I have been wanting to learn some basics of prosessing.

  • Great video Steve. Keep up the amazing work, please.

  • Great! Can't wait to do my next one myself.

  • Very informative! Thanks! I had wanted to process my own, now the video has made it clear how to do it.

  • Thanks "Critter".. I'm a suburban raised guy but w/ Tenn. farm folk 'kin (country/self-relant father died when young) and mother moved us away from his family into an urbanite community... I feel robbed of the culture/history of half my heritage. Vids like these give me more insight into what I've missed being alienated from 1/2 my heritage. Thank you..

BTW, those knives better be "shaving sharp", and that table better be "clean-as-a-whistle" :)

luv UR vids "F" the nit-picking complainers

  • gr8t job steve thanks for your knowledge keep them coming can't wait for the trappong vids

  • @187plumber the point of using the number 8 is to cut out the "eat" typing gr8t it the same as typing greatt

  • You and your camera person are making great videos! Thank you.

  • Great video, thank you!

  • I don't care if you are a pro or not Steve. What you are is helpful. Great job, thanks.

  • man that looks good! 5/5

  • OK After watching both these videos I could deal with hunting.

    I was getting hungry too.

  • Thanks for the time. I enjoyed the vid and look forward to more.

  • Thanks for the info. Lookin to get my first buck tomorrow AM. Wish me luck!

  • Great job Steve! I really appreciate u taking the time to make this vid and your willigness to share your experience with us...

  • Steve, you give yourself a lack of credit. that was one of the best processing videos that i've seen. Thanks also to your camera man. Good job guys

  • great job! been looking for this kind of information! keep it up critter!!!

  • Good job brotha! Thanks for posting this.

  • Love the video. I've always wanted to know how to process a deer last one we tried to process ourselves we mest up! We didn't get much meet at all off of it. Thinks for sharing.

  • Steve's the man. Thanks camera person.

  • You are welcome. Says the camera guy.

  • ★★★★★

  • Great Video Bro! Thanks

  • Great job. Thanks for sharing this!

  • hmm, is it all silicone and boil able? You know so it is easy to sanitize?

  • Excellent Video Steve! Thanks for sharing it.

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Thank you, If you could follow up with what the process is for the hide, and how you much meat you end up with. How much storage do you need. Thanks again, I have never had to hunt for food, but it is nice to know how to dress out a deer if needed.

  • Great job Critter I'll bring Mom and dem by a little later. You need us to bring anything. Got a killer MAC&Cheese that will go great with that back strap. :)

  • Great job crtter! I really dd learn alot. Do you worry about the tendons and such when you ground your burger and sausage meat. And, do ypu have a good recipe for sausage?

  • how long do u hang the bits 4 ? 28days???

  • could make a great stock with the bones.

  • or keep my dogs happy for a couple of days for sure ... :)

  • Great vid, made me hungry!

  • Great job, thanks for the video!

  • You seem like a helluva good guy.

  • Good job Critter! Nicely done.

  • I can't believe you don't have a butcher in you EDC. :) Great job Critter. You don't have to be a butcher to do this, just get the meat off the deer and use as much as you can with out wasting any of it. Even if it's not cut like the butcher would have done it I think it's still edible. Bon Appetite!

  • Nicely done Critter, thanks for showing us all that!

  • how about making some soup with the bones that way it be easier to get the remaining meat out and possibly the marrow out....Yumm!

  • i got so hungry looking at all that meat... i just had to pause and get a bite...

  • The only time I tried drying bones half were drug off by coyotes and what was left was munched on by squirrels for the calcium.

  • thanks steve nice vid a job wel done

  • Actually was able to sit through this with a lady watching and after the first gross out she was intrigued Very well done Critter!

While we are not yet confident enuff to go skin and butcher a Cow I have the basic knowledge I need for venison! Thanx!

  • Excellent video, great stuff fella.

  • Awesome Stuff!

  • love the vid man thaks for posting it, you saved me some money this season and i allways wondered how to harvest.

    Thanks fron Texas

  • flamedrag18 ia right smaller for boning but longer and wider for cutting stacks

  • You did great .. I do not trust the meat cutters here so I do ALL of my cutting , Beef , Hog and all A wider knife will help keep your stacks start ...

  • Thanks for taking the time to be so through. Love the step by step.

  • critterdon!e!!!!!

  • Critterdone. That's funny!

  • Great vid Critter.

  • wtg....awesome vid, very informative

  • thanks Critter, i learned alot from this

  • About how many pounds of meat would come off of an "average" size deer?

  • Loved this 2 parter! Great Vid!!!

  • well i think youdid a good beginner video of butchering a deer for people that dont know anything at all thank you i butcher about 30 animals a year between beef and deer

  • You do a better job than I do butchering my deer, I'll have to try using my mora knife If I ever take a deer this season. I know you keep saying your not a professional, but you are closer than you think bud. I'd let you butcher for me anyday!

  • i know your just fixing this up for someone else... id just like to say in a self reliance situation you want to keep as much of that fat as you can... Fat is necessary for proper brain function... wild game tends to be very lean so you want to save fat where you can get it.

  • Great video Critter!!!

  • will you be giving out samples at the end of the video lol

  • That is a lot of meat for a self reliance situation, like idk how you would store all the meat for long term usage without it spoiling besides smoking it all or jerky. How would you go about that?

  • hey dave, critter, or anyone for the matter... what some good stuff to do with boar?

  • Thanks Critter. Awsome vid!

  • maked my mouth water looking at all that good eating

  • interested in a video on uses for the organ meats .

    Great work Steve .

  • I wish i would have watched this before going at it last weekend, i really "butched" my deer if you know what i mean. thanks critter, great job, hofully you'll show us how to skin a muskrat,

    thanks

  • Love This video:) makes me hungry though

  • Great Job Critter!!!!

  • @wildernessoutfitters My grandparents taught us not to waste any thing after skinning & prepping the kill as much as possible we cut the rest of it up in to pieces that would fit in to a pot to be boiled down in to a stock for soups, casseroles, and chili beans do the the same as you would do to make chicken & dumplings.

  • Deer burger and sausage? Just stick the stuff in a stew, it tastes far better that way.

  • Excellent Vid.A+++

  • Send some of that meat my way!
