I'm a libertarian/anarcho-capitalist, but a non-racist. Ruby Ridge was 99% the government's fault. As far as I know about the Weavers, some of their beliefs I really dislike, but they did nothing to warrent that kind of reaction from the government. It was digusting, just like Waco. It's a shame that latter went totally unpunished.
Since the show was called Politically INcorrect, I expected more from Maher, even though I usually dislike him. But no, he just makes a joke. What an asshole.

Wrong. It was 30-40% the Feds fault. Randy Weaver had plenty of opportunities to avoid this situation. He had a warrant out for his arrest. He should have turned himself in, and stopped playing that stupid war game, survivalist, nonsense.

Maybe we should forget the arbitrary percentages. Weaver and his family were nutty, and they could have have probably stopped the situtation before it started. HOWEVER, the police have the legal right to use lethal force. Therefore the burden should be on them to know the situtation (they didn't) and to err on the side of NOT shooting (they didn't.) Far from police being more important than citizens, by being given the right to legal lethal force, they should be LESS important.

Firstly, these are youtube comments. I was trying to be concise. By police, I meant FBI and ATF, etc. I have read about the case, and I read the 2002 version of "Every Knee Shall Bow". I thought it read as quite fair -- pulled no punches with the Weaver's beliefs, but then described the disgusting crimes against them in a way that was utterly damming to the government. That's my opinion on Ruby Ridge -- the Weavers had unsavory qualities, but the government acted like the criminals they are.

Brian- Apparently you are unaware of the court proceeding that transpired prior to the issuance of a warrant. You may also not be familiar with Mr Weavers ( sworn ) Congressional testimony. It might prove enlightening. An intelligent fellow might change their opinion on where fault 'lies' after becoming familiar with the circumstances surrounding the event in question.

Two weeks later, the trial date changed to 20 February, but the U.S. Probation Office sent out a letter which stated the date as 20 March. Weaver did not appear on the correct trial date, and the judge issued a warrant for his arrest.
