well let's not kid ourselves - Clijsters would have gotten to that ball too (she holds the title of most absurd get at the women's USO, see her 2005 match with Venus) but still amazing get by Serena
@StewNWT Perhaps in 2005, but not now. Also, maybe she could have gotten a couple of those shots, but not all of them. I'm a guy, and I'm not sure I can do what Serena did.
@Leomerya12 hrm well watching her retire on a nothing injury just moments ago at the Roger's cup, I'd agree with you. But in their respective primes, Clijsters is the only woman on tour who's a strong enough athlete to compete in such physical points with Venus and Serena
@StewNWT She retired from the Rogers' Cup! I'm so mad! I wanted to see her and Serena play. Oh well. Also, you know about Chrolli!? You're my new best friend.
Serena got by here with her fighting abilities. Venus in my opinion was the better aggressor and had this match on her racquet. When Venus is playing well, her game is more explosive than Serena's. She has a slightly more aggressive mentality when you consider tactics. Serena does use her brute strength, but her transition game isn't as good as big sister's.
That was not the best female match ever, more like best match ever. Every game and every match was tight like this all the way through. What made it amazing is that Serena came from behind BOTH sets to win it. Venus had like 10 set points. Venus is definately the better server and she has more finese, but Serena is the better fighter and she has such amazing composure.
actually Serena is the best server. Serena has better placement, venus just likes to thit the ball hard. Serena actually hits a heavy groundstroke, like more spin. Its more effective, when you see her play you see that. Billie Jeak king even thinks that Serena has the better serve. She says men and women should look at it. Venus would probably be the second best server, because she can hit it so hard.
I'd put Venus at 4th. I put Serena 1st, Lindsay Davenport 2nd and Maria Sharapova 3rd. Venus's serve motion has a big hitch in it, and she can get really discombobulated. Venus has the quicker first serve, but Serena's is more consistent and has a better, smoother motion. Venus' second serve is also really attackable, whereas Serena, Lindsay, and Maria all have solid second serves.
@Samprasisthebest Everybody has different opinions. Not everybody care for Sampras & Agassi, so they wouldn't bother to watch them play. I prefer to see this match than any of the matches u listed above since I'm not a huge Federer, Nadal, Agassi, or Sampras fan. I do respect Federer & Nadal's talent though.
Here is my list of tournaments that I hope Venus wins in 2009 Australian Open Open Gaz De France Acapulco Rome Stuttgart (first year on clay) French Open LA Montreal Moscow WTA Championships (Defending Champion)
Here is my list of tournaments that I hope Serena wins in 2009 Sydney Indian Wells Bangalore (Defending Champion) Miami (Defending Champion) Charleston (Defending Champion) Berlin Rome French Open Wimbledon Stanford LA US Open (Defending Champion) WTA Championships
well serena took the Australian. Im not sure if they are having banglore this year. And she probably won play indain wells now called the BNP Paribas open y idk. But i m like you i hope for a great year from both sisters.
Agreed Oopstoobad6275 which is why I never regard it as 'that amazing point that Serena lost.'
Venus owned that point. She just ran Serena side to side and outplayed her on her serve. There was everything - the return of serve, turning defense into offense and the volleying was wonderful.
And yeah, the comparison to the Henin point (battle of the volleys) is apt. But still - points are points and its matches in the end that you have to win!
well you know, the way I see it it's a priviledge to take part in such amazing and competetive matches as Venus did this and last year. I'd rather have that than the sort of run Jankovic had to the final.
HAHAHA VENUS RULED SERENA IN THAT POINT GREAT MATCH EVER:)

Best match ever? Don't kid yourself. Federer Nadal Wimby final 2008 probably the greatest, with Sampras Agassi US Open 2001 Quarters close behind.
