@BinksYaYa you need half-life 2 installed. If you do transfer the files in the halflife2 install folder with the same name to the SAME EXACT SPOT in the portal folder. I will not be responsible if you mess up your registry in the process. (Usually you don't unless you fuck up)

It's to do with the HDR settings. From the in-game options you can enable HDR (High Dynamic Range) However, if the area you spawn in does not have a specific entity to configure with the HDR lighting then you get a glowing effect on certain materials/textures. For example while playing a user-made map on Counter-Strike: Source with HDR enabled, if the creator of the map lacked the required Entity to work in tone with the HDR setting being enabled, then your fingernails glow :P :P
