@Bene1in The U.S bombed Iraq because at the time, it was an evil country bent on destruction and imperialism. Well, not Iraq itself, but it's government.
I believe that the ww2 would have lasted way longer if hitler hadn't decided to hit the soviets. They could have used much more energy on the west but they were dumb. With the commonwealth/America/Russia the war had been won and a grim reminder of war.
@ParkLaneTottenham1 Yes everyone seems to forget how many occupied nations had large numbers of volunteers fighting for Germany. Many French Dutch Eastern Europeans many many from Ukraine and a division of troops from Spain fought hard for Germany.
Stalingrad....it was there...when all hope seemed lost...when the Jaws of Nazism were on the verge of devouring the whole of the world...the brave sons of the soviet union rose up...and drove back the Atrocity know as the Wehrmacht...purchasing the world a new dawn...with their lives....all who live free today owe a debt of gratitude to the Brave Defenders of Stalingrad....who not only fought for the soviet union..but indeed all the free world.
I say a massive thank you to all the Ruskis that fought and died and for defeating hitler - without this victory we would all be speaking German now! Russia is a great country - I'm English
@anebt The U.S took care of the japanese navy, but as the japanese were fighting on 2 fronts, their fighting abilities were split in half, half in China and half in the pacific theatre.
Without the sacrifice of the Soviets, the western allies could not invade France- yes, it appears impressive with all the ships and equipment on the English channel, but, it would've been more impressive if 100 German divisions were waiting for them.
The Americans would not sacrifice 5-10million soldiers with no guarantee of victory
@anebt well there is no soviet union without russia and russia controlled the militry government and every other aspect of the soviet union. but ok if you agree with me what are we arguing about???
@kellyingtime Dont be so naive. Russia didn't just fight with the Nazi Germany. Read some history and you will be amazed by USSR:s warcrimes. Before the operation Barbarossa began, both USSR and Nazi Germany were annihilating their neighbour countries. Committing horrible warcrimes. If Germany wouldnt had attacked first, then the USSR would have. Those both countries were equally evil.
Karma is a tough friend. Im sorry to say this, but russians deserved the tragedy of Stalingrad.
Russia fought the Germans in eastern Europe but they did not fight them in western Europe , Italy, and North Africa. They did not fight them in the Atlantic ocean either. No history book I ever read claims the United States won WW2 by itself!
@DOUGLAS55ish Do you think the Soviets should have attacked the Nazis from the West first lol? The U.S. decided to fight with Germany when the Soviets were almost close to Berlin. Btw Italy and North Africa were weak and not so important regions. Also, there were not major battles in the Atlantic Ocean!
@sayat8 It's obvious that you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to the history of the second world war! If the Germans didN'T have to keep millions of troops either stationed in western Europe to fight an invasion or fighting first in North Africa , then in Italy and the Balkans those troops would have been fighting the Russians! If the German industries were not being bombed night and day they would have produced the weapons in the quantities needed to defeat the USSR!
@DOUGLAS55ish: go back and do your history. The ESPECIALLY American B17 bombing raids actually did VERY little to hurt the nazi war armaments industry. Not until the Americans threw in the towel and went for "carpet bomb everything" the "precision bombings" simply wasn't putting THAT dent into the nazi war industry.
@DOUGLAS55ish: AGAIN, go and do YOUR history: the nazis didn't go into "total war" mobilization until around late 1942 and even then their factories couldn't compare to the numbers of armaments the Soviet Union was putting out (SURPRISE!) AND nazis went the route of "LOW NUMBERS of really good Tiger and Panther tanks" versus the Soviets gaziilions of simpleton T34s. AND the "total mobilization" Germany went to was NOTHING compared to the ABSOLUTE total war effort of the Soviets.
@DOUGLAS55ish: PLUS by the time the nazis had gone to total war footing: it was too late...... by then the badly bloodied Soviets figured out "the blitzkrieg". Don't believe? Go and read CAREFULLY about the Battle of Kursk and how the classic "armor pincer" of the Wermacht was stopped dead by the Soviets.
AND on top of the Soviets having figured out (it's actually very complex) "the blitzkrieg" they also had the transferred and rebuilt Ural factories churning out armaments.
@lukebccb Not only have I read about the Battle of Kursk but on the Military channel there is a show called "Greatest Tank Battles" which had two hours on the battle of Kursk. It used cgi to show how the battle was fought along with personal accounts from veterans of both sides. it does not make me ignorant about history just because I am an American.
@DOUGLAS55ish: this is not to take anything away from the Americans and British war effort as their industries is what fed and MECHANICALLY moved Soviet armies but the fact is scum hitler went into the Soviet Union expecting "the whole rotten structure to collapse" and by the time the arrogant fucking nazi scum began to understand what they had gotten themselves into it was too late and the Soviets had survived 1941.
@sayat8 I see from your profile that you are 22 , which explains your ignorance! The Battle of the Atlantic was a five year long battle in which thousands of sailors died! Some of those sailors died taking supplies to Murmansk, Russia to enable the Russians to keep fighting the Germans! The United States were fighting the Germans before we even formally went to war; look up the USS RUBEN JAMES, a destroyer that was sunk with all hands by a German u-boat. Ships were sunk off our coast in 1942!
@DOUGLAS55ish The western allies fought the germans in more places, But the battles on the eastern front dwarfed those on the west. the point was that the Soviets took on about 2/3 or 3/4 of the german force,
The Allies can't claim to have done all the work, neither can the Soviets.
The Allies defeated the Kriegsmarine, The Soviets defeated theWehrmacht, and they both defeated the luftwaffe. Moreso the allies but still,
the was couldnt have been won without both the Allies and USSR
@Kastrenzo74 I know the Soviets took on more Germans; I never said they didn't. I was replying to sayat8 who seems to think the Allies and the United States in particular never did anything to defeat the Germans. I am a student of military history with WW2 a big interest of mine, so I am well aware of the war on the eastern front. What I am getting tired of is the revisionist thinking by Europeans regarding the contributions of the United States for whatever reasons they have.
Saw another video of just war clips from stalingrad a couple of months ago. It disgusted me what people were saying...
Americans, germans and a few other nationalities would say "german hero's slaughter communist pigs by the millions" or "communist pigs get slaughtered by the millions"
its really incredible how much russia sacrificed in ww2, almost 30 million dead. i cant help but think how disgusted russian ww2 vets would be to see american history books claiming america won ww2.
@mik0logy Strongly agree since almost half of the nazi army was taken in the west front by USA, France, UK and another ones, meanwhile more than the other half striked the USSR.
@mik0logy I'm American and trust me American history books don't say America won WWll by itself.I know WWll and the Russian front very well.We did win the war in the Pacific against Japan. In terms of human sacrifice,Russians gave more against Hitler, but they had no choice. There were no epic battles in Western Europe like that of the Russian front. The problem here in America today, sadly,is younger Americans know almost nothing of WWll.They can't even imagine the Russian front or what it was.
@FRANK1FM why is it american kids think america won ww2??? no doubt america played an important part, but ask them who beat the nazis and won ww2 they will not say the allies.
@FRANK1FM Actually there was the battle of the Bulge, which was pretty big and definitely help the allies defeat the Germans. Some think that the Russians would have had a harder time on their front had Hitler not squandered his troops in his western offensive.
@FRANK1FM Actually there was the battle of the Bulge, which was pretty big and definitely helped the allies defeat the Germans. Some think that the Russians would have had a harder time on their front had Hitler not squandered his troops in his western offensive.
@lemonboy53-The Red Army had numbers superior to the United States, but their tactics(which were often wasteful) resulted in a disproportionate number of battle deaths. The Soviets bore the brunt of the fighting in the European Theater for sure and without them a victory against Hitler almost certainly would not have happened.. The United States and Great Britain could not have defeated Hitler alone, that is not in doubt. But the U.S. certainly did bear the brunt in the Pacific Theater.
@esf428 The Americans suffered the most casualties in the pacific theatre, but they did not suffer the worst casualties into defeating japan overall, the 2 countries that suffered the worst in ww2 would be Russia and China.
@Altair796 ....not necessarily. The British/Indian army fought one of the longest campaigns of WW2 against 300,000 Japanese troops in Burma. It was the largest battle against the Japanese outside of China, and is referred to as the forgotten war (for obvious reasons judging by some of the comments on here). Although the US was pivotal in beating the Japanese they certainly didn't do it on their own. There were troops from many other countries fighting in the Pacific war.
@amaniacwithacar: It wasnt near as big or devastating as the eastern front. But it was more hand-to-hand. The Japanese would sneak into Marine lines and night and try to slit their throats as they sleep, the idea is that you would want to sleep. The Japanese played more mind games and were suicidal. They would also -never- surrender. The Russians beat them too in Manchuria 1939, no one says much about that either.
@UStheFA yes and in 1945, in is true the war in the pacific was very brutal in close quaters terms, probably more than in the east, but only just. the battle of moscow, leningrad, stalingrad berlinand such, bothsides would sneek into eachothers lines and massacre each other. also while not as suicidal as the japanese, both sides would rarely surrender unless they were ordered to and even then many would be shot or worked to death.
also there was no diffireciating between civillians and millitary on both sides and more than 23 million civilians were killed. Both were very very horrible battles.
@mik0logy i think its fair to say they played there part, the russians didnt fight in europe after all, your lot just chased the nazis back into germany, but then again russia was allied to the nazis in the beginning
@amaniacwithacar tell me then where in europe did the russians fight apart fron nazi germany and russia ? its wankers like you who need to get there facts right, it was the us and britain who did all the fighting in europe, pricks like you think russia won the war, russia lost so many men because they had a moron called stalin in charge, russia was very willing to split poland with the nazis in the beginning, they wanted finland as well but the brave finns sent them packing, GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT
@keanoman1000 ok how about POLAND (1944), HUNGARY, RUMANIA, BULGARIA, AUSTRIA, YOUGOSLAVIA,CZESLOVAKIA, FINLAND(1944), NORWAY, GERMANY...(Most in 1944-45) the list goes on, more than that briton fought 4 german divisions in africa and still struggled to win, while russia was fighting more than 200 german divisions. In 3 months of fighting in normandy the allies inflicted 300,000 casualties on the germans, in 3 weeks of fighting in the east, the russians inflicted 1million+ casualities on germans
@amaniacwithacar if i was you the first thing i would do is learn to spell you moron, you hav'nt a clue what your talking about, in finland' the winter war, the russians were not fighting the nazi's they were fighting along side them as they were allied to them, they were quite happy to split poland between them, just rattle your chains you aussie idiot,
@keanoman1000 ok yes they did have an alliance with the nazis at the start of the war. When finland attacked them in 1941 AFTER the winter war! they kicked them out in 1944. In poland AFTER it had been split the nazis invaded and kicked them out in 1941, then in 1944 the russians compleatly kicked them out of poland! yes the russians were evil, that's not what I'm arguing, I'm arguing that it was the soviet union that beat germany not briton!
@mik0logy Of course America won! Shit those braindead communists just sent in wave after wave of poorly equiped men that just died like flies, They did not win, They were the side who is the on the top list of World war 2 losers.
@MrRikardoe no, the people were not communists, they were ordinary people who fought back against invaders. you can deny the soviet contribution in world war 2 all you want, it doesnt change the fact that the majorityof the nazis were beaten by soivets. and it doesnt change the fact that over 25 million lives were lost in the soviet union. no one put in more blood, sweat, tears effort into deafeating the nazis like the soivets did.
@mik0logy I do feel sorry for the soldiers who were forced to fighted so their idiotic leaders wouldent have to face defeat, Communism is bad from the bone, It takes true evil to sacrifice 25 million lives insteed of facing defeat.
@MrRikardoe they were not forced. stalingrad was mostly regular people defending their homes. it was one of the greatest displays of bravery ever shown. no doubt communism is shit, but it was not communism that won on the eastern front, it was the people.
@mik0logy Actually lots of soviet troops were executed becouse if "cowertly, Stuff like, not running into machinegun fire, Not running towards tanks only having a few grenades, Taking cover.. It was not bravery, It was either fight like retards or get shot by your so called "comrades"
@mik0logy i live in America and our history books say the allies won ww2(UK, US, and Russia). America and UK invaded Germany from the West. Russia invade from the east. The United States defeated Japan. The allies one. Before you say something stupid. You should do some research.
@xDead27Eyex And where does your info come from except of your brainwashed propaganda against soviet army? Manchurian civilians took in with open arms Soviets like liberators and then Soviets gave Manchuria back to China, They didnt rape and kill civilians, maybe some few drunken assholes raped someone but that did every army on every front even USA and ENGLAND!!! But they did not kill civilians anywhere,
@mik0logy No western history book claims that the victory was thanks to the efforts of only a single side,it is your eastern propaganda which makes up such lies you prick.
And most of those 30 million people were victims of Stalin's own unprofessional and tyrannic regime . Many military and regular historians even today claim that the red army's losses during the war were unnecessarily huge and were mostly due to incompetent leadership from both Moscow and the front lines.
4 Million lives were lost at Stalingrad in 9 months. 1.5million Germans and 2.5million Russians. The lives lost included civillians and all associated people - German airforce, Russian civillians in the city. On the first day of conflict 40,000 Russian civillians in the city were killed. Germany launched 800 planes completed 2000 sorties in the first day as a shock (blitz) weapon.
The percentage of Stalingrad held is less important that the strength of the bridgehead, which for the Soviets steadily grew even as the land area under their infantry boots declined.
The presence of a Soviet bridgehead in the city itself ought to have compelled a Wehrmacht withdraw, after the fall of Kalach. This was arcade level violence day in, day out, and all night long.
The German Army at Stalingrad was outnumbered 12 to 1. Yes it was Germany's best Army the Elite 6th Army under Fredrick Von Paulus. But supplies were cut off in one of the worst winters where temperatures plumeted to -40'celcius. The Germans were surrounded in the heart of Russia cut over and 3000km from Germany. The German Army was already stretched battling the British Empire and America. So they were bound to be defeated in the end just like Napeoleon of France.
@boydownunder007 Yeah, yeah, it is a common stereotype to blame all the Russian victories on the weather only. I wasn't aware NapEleon fought Americans
@boydownunder007 Also supply lines were not cut because of fighting other armies in the Western Front, its a known fact that Hitler was obsessed in taking the Soviet Union, thats why he concentrated his supply lines there. And its already obvious because why will Hitler leave 100+ COMPANIES that were fighting in the Eastern Front! Almost 85% of the whole German force. Supply disruptions were only caused by Partizans and NKVD/Soviet Airforce by air.Germany has many supplies from alot of countries
Wermacht Generals: "mein fuhrer our intelligence works shows the Russians are massing to the Northwest and Southeast of the 6th's Army's drive into the city....."
hitler interruping his generals: "where do you spineless idiots get such stupidity from...... the whole Jew-Bolshevist rotten structure is already on the edge of collapes!".......
Wermacht Generals: "but mein fuhrer our reconnaissance CLEARLY shows that Army Group B is in a potentially VERY dangerous position due to the Soviet's positioning of the....."
herr hitler: "SILENCE! YOU WILL BE SILENT!! Enough of your defeatist Jew lies!! Stalingrad is already ours!!"....
SO "boydownunder007": who destroyed the 6th Army??
As an American, I just stand amazed at the incredible sacrifices of the Russian people in this war, and in this city. There is no possible way of getting your mind around what they did, and how they survived this war. Regardless of what the US or any of the other Allied armies did, I can't imagine Germany being able to defeat such a people under any circumstances. Truly historic in every way.
@Fedproman Actually it's not the first time Stalingrad came under threat WWI is when the Russians were hit the worst and they never forgot. During one of the battles Russian soldier had hardly any guns and had to wait patiently under a shower of shrapnel and wait fo their comrades to die so they could take their guns. Actually Verdun was the bloodiest battle in human history claiming 1.7 million lives the ground was covered in blood. Watch it if you want.
@DarkKobra0202 No, I didn't know that. I appreciate the info, I know quite a bit about WWII but basically nothing from WWI. I will look into Verdun. Thanks again.
do you know that the russian civils were happy to hear that the germans will come, because they hated theyr goverment which just wanted there money and which killed there own people. if the germans had been nice to the civils, they had been on there side and fought the russian army.
@MsChevChelios No, the civilians were purely Soviet side, no one will join Nazi devils (probably the cowards who surrender will). LOL did you even see old videos how USSR used civilians to dig trenches in Stalingrad , Kursk and Moscow and they were all happy and saying hi? They were even in concentration/patriotic mode as they pump out thousands of tanks and arms everyday day. And get your facts straight its the Soviet Union not Russia dumbass :(
1the old videos are all propaganda but as it seens you never had any history lessons. the goverment of the soviet union was bust, so they rob there own people. The police killed people who didnt pay. Didnt you ever heard about the millions that stalin had killed you punk? your so silly that you believe the old propaganda...
@MsChevChelios Wow...funny because on the same time they were also showing Soviets having breadlines and working on diamond mines at home(and collecting dead/starved people), so the video wasnt in anyway "propaganda". What will you do when 90% of the population doesnt want to cooperate with you, your military cannot beat the Germans(and are running away), your national treasury is poor? Surrender? Russian culture that was built for generations destroyed by being cowards? What will YOU do?
i think thats not a reason why this isnt propaganda. its fact that the population was more on german sides than on russians one at the beginning. but in Stalingrad your right they were on soviet side. but the only strength of soviet uniun were numbers. they hadnt money so at stalingrad there were two man one rifle with 5 shots. a lot of little kamikaze soldiers. and they rob there own people before the war started.
@MsChevChelios USSR was a friend to the Nazis a while back before Operation Barbarossa, so Soviets still had the mindset that they were still united. Stalin also took a week to swallow the issue on how Germany started its blitzkrieg on Russia and how Germany betrayed them. That opinion on two man 1 rifle and commissars shooting at retreating soldiers were already dismissed , they barely even happened. The movie "Enemy at the Gates" reinforces this opinion :I
i know the movie very well and there is just that there are 2 men one rifle. and i also know that Stalin get the second half of Poland and killed there much of soldiers after their result. Stalin also gave Hitlers tanks Fuel after the Poland campaign as a sign that they are united. and still to the last sekond Stalin thought that Hitler would be trust to his pact with Stalin.
@MsChevChelios I think Stalin also had thought of Hitler to invade some time soon. He had his eye on the USSR for so long (massive land and natural resources). But USSR didnt know how long the pact will stay, so probably Stalin was just surprised how fast the Germans consumed that part of the USSR.
but it was clear that fascists and bolsheviks couldnt stay long together. Stalin thought that nothing will happens until Hitler won against UK so he can set up an army to invade germany. it was just a question of time til one invade the other.
@MsChevChelios I think the record shows that initially the Germans were welcomed as liberators but that didn't last very long at all. Once they realized what was in store for them under the Nazis. The Nazi's would never have considered the Soviets anything but subhumans and only worthy to be slaves. Wouldn't it have been awful to have had to choose between Stalin and Hitler. What a pitiful choice to have to make.
I think the Russians only won cause of their awesome ACCENT!!!!!(disclaimer:joke, not to be taken literally under any circumstance, unless you believe that accents can win wars. Why are you still reading this???
USSR executed 13,000 troops because they didn't want to fight in Stalingrad. Only Russians could endure something like Stalingrad!??! Germans endured Stalingrad, French & Germans endured Verdun, then there was the Brit. Commonwelath & Germans at the Somme etc. etc. Buna & the Kokoda Trail etc. in New Guinea, etc. etc. etc.
You also forget that Stalin invaded Finland & the USSR lost its membership in the League of Nations for that, & invaded Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Rumania & Poland, & was an ally of Hitler up unitl Hitler invaded USSR on June 22,1941. The Brits, French & Poles were already fighting the nazis & Italains, & it was the British Commonwealth that had the first great victories against the Axis in East & North Africa & over Britan during the Battle of Britian w/ French, Greek, etc. & USA volunteers
@christof139 When in Russia authority tsar that Finland operated was a part of Russian empire, it is a historic fact. When in Russia revolution has begun and to authority has come Lenin, Lenin has given independence of Finland of Russia. Also the part of the ground of Russian empire has been attached to Poland when in Russia there was a civil war.
@christof139 When Stalin has received authority in Russia Stalin has decided to return Finland in structure of Russia, that it was possible to it partially, having grasped a small part of the ground of Finland. In 1939 Stalin has returned a part of the Russian ground which Poland kept. England has concluded the peace treaty with Germany the documentary staff were kept where Chamberlain swings this contract and speaks that Germany will not begin war.
@christof139 England has concluded the contract with Poland about military support. When Germany has attacked Poland, England having broken the contract with Poland has withdrawn, it was treachery from England. England has not won any battle independently as the army of England was very weak as well as the French army. Hitler has won all the Europe for short time. One case Rombelya fighted against many thousands army of Englishmen.
@Vanyaaynav, You change the subject because that is all you know how to do. Britain & France could not reach Poland & they declared war on the Nazis when the nazis attacked Poland, then the USSR attacked Poland. Chamberlain etc. tried to keep the peace but Hitler made war. Stalin did nothing to help. Poland wanted to remove Hitler in ~1933-36.
@christof139 Stalin has borrowed the grounds of Poland which belonged to imperial Russia earlier. The interesting fact the Brest fortress which has been constructed by Russian imperial engineers has undergone to storm of German armies two times. First time German armies stormed a fortress in which there was a Polish army в1939 to the year, second time Germans stormed a fortress in 1941 in which there was a red army
@christof139 I read about history WW2 much and also talked to soldiers of red army which told to me about that war. And consequently I can do the conclusions. England and France could send the armies to Poland when Hitler has attacked Poland but these countries were frightened and by that have betraid Poland.
@christof139 Why Poland wished to remove Hitler? Hitler has received authority in Germany in 1933 and at that time did not represent threat for Poland :-).
@Vanyaaynav, Because of the Polish-German war of 1919 - 1921 (same time with USSR) & Poland felt Germany a threat & also due to events of WWI. When Germany moved into Czech. etc. then Stalin suggested action, but Poland refused to let USSR troops cross the border due to mistrust. Britain & France were undecided but may have agreed if Poland agreed. So, 2 times it was suggested to remove Hitler. many people in Britain & France wanted this but as you Chamberlin etc. held back, & 2nd chance lost.
@Vanyaaynav, nayway, it's not your fault or my fault or the fault of citizens of Poland, USSR, Brtiain, France, etc. but fault of memory of large loss of life in WWI & faulty & convoluted politics & politicians.
BTW, I have many excellent books on the Russian Front that use USSR, German, etc. military sources (by Glantz etc.), & am now waiting for Prof. Zamulin's book on Kursk. Glad you all held & beat the nazis & wish it had never occurred. A terrible thing.
Typo in previous post: should be 'Anyway' not 'nayway'.
Taffy Bowen, a physicist from Wales, & other researchers developed short wave radar device called a cavity magnatron. Britain couldn't mass produce it so it was given to USA to mass produce. This device was put on planes & ships & it defeated the U-boats. Newer states that U-boats sank ~2,900 & not ~2,600 allied ships in the Atlantic alone.
Glantz has 3 accurate books on Stalingrad Campaign, uses USSR & German sources.
@Vanyaaynav, Google "Severstal North America", more links in article. It's in Wiki. Severstal is Russian Corp. & is operating old (semi-modernized) & historical Ford Steel Mill etc. in River Rouge industrial complex, part of Detroit & WWII Arsenal of Democracy. Only 2 out 4 furnaces are in operation but theycan produce up to ~3.5 or metric tons (tonnes) of steel & employ ~2,000 Russians & Americans. Not bad.
@Vanyaaynav, Your info. about USA & the West etc. is based on old USSR lies. You're a complete idiot & the world including many Russians leaves you behind.
@christof139 My information is based on different sources including site Viki Links. As America can speak about democracy and a freedom of speech if its beginning is based on blood of local American inhabitants-Indians. Radical Americans-Indians destroyed and deprived with the ground. As in America there was a slavery and then national intolerance to black citizens till 1960. At present America unique of стан which conducts wars in different parts of the world.
@Vanyaaynav, Yeah, I think I know more accurate history than you & have info. from USSR military sources, german, & Allied & have been reading & studying it for years. I can also be a dickhead sometimes. :-)
@Vanyaaynav, BTW, our own history is filled with mistakes, injustices, wars with the Indians/Native Americans, the issue of slavery & civil war, supporting some dictators in the Americas, etc. & it's the same with every nation in the world. Not anyone, anything, or any political system is perfect. Howevr, the knowledge of our past & errors are openly discussed, studied & analyzed here in our schools, univerities, in the media/news, etc. Literature by people involved is abundantly available.
@Vanyaaynav, I don't know if you have read actual Soviet miltary officers' situation reports about the war but they are very open, to the point, with self analyses of what went wrong or right, etc. & it is the same with many of our own military officers' reports. This is the only way to learn & achieve success & not make the same mistakes agian, but ubfortunately the world's politicians aren't like this & convolute nearly eveything & I think they were all hatched on Mars or elsewhere in space
@Vanyaaynav: Some unbiased and easy to read 'papers' are those from the American Military. They are titled the 'leavenworth papers' and are worth a read. I was quite pleasantly surprised.

Without the sacrifice of the Soviets, the western allies could not invade France- yes, it appears impressive with all the ships and equipment on the English channel, but, it would've been more impressive if 100 German divisions were waiting for them.
The Americans would not sacrifice 5-10million soldiers with no guarantee of victory
in a 'foreign' continent.

mamawinkelen 8 months ago

DOUGLAS55ish 8 months ago
@DOUGLAS55ish Do you think the Soviets should have attacked the Nazis from the West first lol? The U.S. decided to fight with Germany when the Soviets were almost close to Berlin. Btw Italy and North Africa were weak and not so important regions. Also, there were not major battles in the Atlantic Ocean!
sayat8 8 months ago
@sayat8 It's obvious that you don't know your ass from a hole in the ground when it comes to the history of the second world war! If the Germans didN'T have to keep millions of troops either stationed in western Europe to fight an invasion or fighting first in North Africa , then in Italy and the Balkans those troops would have been fighting the Russians! If the German industries were not being bombed night and day they would have produced the weapons in the quantities needed to defeat the USSR!
DOUGLAS55ish 8 months ago
@DOUGLAS55ish: go back and do your history. The ESPECIALLY American B17 bombing raids actually did VERY little to hurt the nazi war armaments industry. Not until the Americans threw in the towel and went for "carpet bomb everything" the "precision bombings" simply wasn't putting THAT dent into the nazi war industry.
(cont.)
lukebccb 8 months ago
@DOUGLAS55ish: AGAIN, go and do YOUR history: the nazis didn't go into "total war" mobilization until around late 1942 and even then their factories couldn't compare to the numbers of armaments the Soviet Union was putting out (SURPRISE!) AND nazis went the route of "LOW NUMBERS of really good Tiger and Panther tanks" versus the Soviets gaziilions of simpleton T34s. AND the "total mobilization" Germany went to was NOTHING compared to the ABSOLUTE total war effort of the Soviets.
(cont.)
lukebccb 8 months ago
@DOUGLAS55ish: PLUS by the time the nazis had gone to total war footing: it was too late...... by then the badly bloodied Soviets figured out "the blitzkrieg". Don't believe? Go and read CAREFULLY about the Battle of Kursk and how the classic "armor pincer" of the Wermacht was stopped dead by the Soviets.
AND on top of the Soviets having figured out (it's actually very complex) "the blitzkrieg" they also had the transferred and rebuilt Ural factories churning out armaments.
(cont.)
lukebccb 8 months ago
@lukebccb Not only have I read about the Battle of Kursk but on the Military channel there is a show called "Greatest Tank Battles" which had two hours on the battle of Kursk. It used cgi to show how the battle was fought along with personal accounts from veterans of both sides. it does not make me ignorant about history just because I am an American.
DOUGLAS55ish 8 months ago
@DOUGLAS55ish: this is not to take anything away from the Americans and British war effort as their industries is what fed and MECHANICALLY moved Soviet armies but the fact is scum hitler went into the Soviet Union expecting "the whole rotten structure to collapse" and by the time the arrogant fucking nazi scum began to understand what they had gotten themselves into it was too late and the Soviets had survived 1941.
lukebccb 8 months ago
@sayat8 I see from your profile that you are 22 , which explains your ignorance! The Battle of the Atlantic was a five year long battle in which thousands of sailors died! Some of those sailors died taking supplies to Murmansk, Russia to enable the Russians to keep fighting the Germans! The United States were fighting the Germans before we even formally went to war; look up the USS RUBEN JAMES, a destroyer that was sunk with all hands by a German u-boat. Ships were sunk off our coast in 1942!
DOUGLAS55ish 8 months ago
@DOUGLAS55ish The western allies fought the germans in more places, But the battles on the eastern front dwarfed those on the west. the point was that the Soviets took on about 2/3 or 3/4 of the german force,
The Allies can't claim to have done all the work, neither can the Soviets.
The Allies defeated the Kriegsmarine, The Soviets defeated theWehrmacht, and they both defeated the luftwaffe. Moreso the allies but still,
the was couldnt have been won without both the Allies and USSR
Kastrenzo74 8 months ago 5
@Kastrenzo74 I know the Soviets took on more Germans; I never said they didn't. I was replying to sayat8 who seems to think the Allies and the United States in particular never did anything to defeat the Germans. I am a student of military history with WW2 a big interest of mine, so I am well aware of the war on the eastern front. What I am getting tired of is the revisionist thinking by Europeans regarding the contributions of the United States for whatever reasons they have.

TRUTH ABOUT STALIN
(I am Historian, have master's degree on Russian history)
Comrade Stalin killed lot of traitors in Communist Party.
Bad people joined the party because they wanted to make career.
They searched "enemies of nation" and killed them - to earn reputation!
Example: Khrushchev killed thousands of innocent Ukraine people,
and wanted kill more, but Stalin send him letter with words "Stop that, idiot!"
After the death of Stalin, Khrushchev came to power and blamed Stalin for all crimes

@mik0logy lol, it's American nature to be arrogant, not even a fraction of how awesome the red army is :D
lemonboy53 7 months ago
@lemonboy53-The Red Army had numbers superior to the United States, but their tactics(which were often wasteful) resulted in a disproportionate number of battle deaths. The Soviets bore the brunt of the fighting in the European Theater for sure and without them a victory against Hitler almost certainly would not have happened.. The United States and Great Britain could not have defeated Hitler alone, that is not in doubt. But the U.S. certainly did bear the brunt in the Pacific Theater.
esf428 7 months ago
@esf428 The Americans suffered the most casualties in the pacific theatre, but they did not suffer the worst casualties into defeating japan overall, the 2 countries that suffered the worst in ww2 would be Russia and China.

Altair796 7 months ago
@Altair796 ....not necessarily. The British/Indian army fought one of the longest campaigns of WW2 against 300,000 Japanese troops in Burma. It was the largest battle against the Japanese outside of China, and is referred to as the forgotten war (for obvious reasons judging by some of the comments on here). Although the US was pivotal in beating the Japanese they certainly didn't do it on their own. There were troops from many other countries fighting in the Pacific war.
shankly01 7 months ago
@shankly01: Yea, people usually dont even think much about the Pacific war when it was very brutal.
UStheFA 6 months ago
@UStheFA Yes it was brutal but no where near as brutal as what happened on the easternfront
amaniacwithacar 6 months ago
@amaniacwithacar: It wasnt near as big or devastating as the eastern front. But it was more hand-to-hand. The Japanese would sneak into Marine lines and night and try to slit their throats as they sleep, the idea is that you would want to sleep. The Japanese played more mind games and were suicidal. They would also -never- surrender. The Russians beat them too in Manchuria 1939, no one says much about that either.
UStheFA 6 months ago
@UStheFA yes and in 1945, in is true the war in the pacific was very brutal in close quaters terms, probably more than in the east, but only just. the battle of moscow, leningrad, stalingrad berlinand such, bothsides would sneek into eachothers lines and massacre each other. also while not as suicidal as the japanese, both sides would rarely surrender unless they were ordered to and even then many would be shot or worked to death.
amaniacwithacar 6 months ago
also there was no diffireciating between civillians and millitary on both sides and more than 23 million civilians were killed. Both were very very horrible battles.
amaniacwithacar 6 months ago

@amaniacwithacar tell me then where in europe did the russians fight apart fron nazi germany and russia ? its wankers like you who need to get there facts right, it was the us and britain who did all the fighting in europe, pricks like you think russia won the war, russia lost so many men because they had a moron called stalin in charge, russia was very willing to split poland with the nazis in the beginning, they wanted finland as well but the brave finns sent them packing, GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT
keanoman1000 6 months ago
@keanoman1000 ok how about POLAND (1944), HUNGARY, RUMANIA, BULGARIA, AUSTRIA, YOUGOSLAVIA,CZESLOVAKIA, FINLAND(1944), NORWAY, GERMANY...(Most in 1944-45) the list goes on, more than that briton fought 4 german divisions in africa and still struggled to win, while russia was fighting more than 200 german divisions. In 3 months of fighting in normandy the allies inflicted 300,000 casualties on the germans, in 3 weeks of fighting in the east, the russians inflicted 1million+ casualities on germans
amaniacwithacar 6 months ago
@amaniacwithacar if i was you the first thing i would do is learn to spell you moron, you hav'nt a clue what your talking about, in finland' the winter war, the russians were not fighting the nazi's they were fighting along side them as they were allied to them, they were quite happy to split poland between them, just rattle your chains you aussie idiot,
keanoman1000 6 months ago
@keanoman1000 ok yes they did have an alliance with the nazis at the start of the war. When finland attacked them in 1941 AFTER the winter war! they kicked them out in 1944. In poland AFTER it had been split the nazis invaded and kicked them out in 1941, then in 1944 the russians compleatly kicked them out of poland! yes the russians were evil, that's not what I'm arguing, I'm arguing that it was the soviet union that beat germany not briton!

Kurdishstylagee 10 months ago
The German Army at Stalingrad was outnumbered 12 to 1. Yes it was Germany's best Army the Elite 6th Army under Fredrick Von Paulus. But supplies were cut off in one of the worst winters where temperatures plumeted to -40'celcius. The Germans were surrounded in the heart of Russia cut over and 3000km from Germany. The German Army was already stretched battling the British Empire and America. So they were bound to be defeated in the end just like Napeoleon of France.

Fedproman 11 months ago
@Fedproman Actually it's not the first time Stalingrad came under threat WWI is when the Russians were hit the worst and they never forgot. During one of the battles Russian soldier had hardly any guns and had to wait patiently under a shower of shrapnel and wait fo their comrades to die so they could take their guns. Actually Verdun was the bloodiest battle in human history claiming 1.7 million lives the ground was covered in blood. Watch it if you want.

do you know that the russian civils were happy to hear that the germans will come, because they hated theyr goverment which just wanted there money and which killed there own people. if the germans had been nice to the civils, they had been on there side and fought the russian army.
MsChevChelios 10 months ago
@MsChevChelios No, the civilians were purely Soviet side, no one will join Nazi devils (probably the cowards who surrender will). LOL did you even see old videos how USSR used civilians to dig trenches in Stalingrad , Kursk and Moscow and they were all happy and saying hi? They were even in concentration/patriotic mode as they pump out thousands of tanks and arms everyday day. And get your facts straight its the Soviet Union not Russia dumbass :(
999cheetos999 10 months ago
@999cheetos999
1the old videos are all propaganda but as it seens you never had any history lessons. the goverment of the soviet union was bust, so they rob there own people. The police killed people who didnt pay. Didnt you ever heard about the millions that stalin had killed you punk? your so silly that you believe the old propaganda...
MsChevChelios 10 months ago
@MsChevChelios Wow...funny because on the same time they were also showing Soviets having breadlines and working on diamond mines at home(and collecting dead/starved people), so the video wasnt in anyway "propaganda". What will you do when 90% of the population doesnt want to cooperate with you, your military cannot beat the Germans(and are running away), your national treasury is poor? Surrender? Russian culture that was built for generations destroyed by being cowards? What will YOU do?
999cheetos999 10 months ago
@999cheetos999
i think thats not a reason why this isnt propaganda. its fact that the population was more on german sides than on russians one at the beginning. but in Stalingrad your right they were on soviet side. but the only strength of soviet uniun were numbers. they hadnt money so at stalingrad there were two man one rifle with 5 shots. a lot of little kamikaze soldiers. and they rob there own people before the war started.
MsChevChelios 10 months ago
@MsChevChelios USSR was a friend to the Nazis a while back before Operation Barbarossa, so Soviets still had the mindset that they were still united. Stalin also took a week to swallow the issue on how Germany started its blitzkrieg on Russia and how Germany betrayed them. That opinion on two man 1 rifle and commissars shooting at retreating soldiers were already dismissed , they barely even happened. The movie "Enemy at the Gates" reinforces this opinion :I
999cheetos999 10 months ago
@999cheetos999
i know the movie very well and there is just that there are 2 men one rifle. and i also know that Stalin get the second half of Poland and killed there much of soldiers after their result. Stalin also gave Hitlers tanks Fuel after the Poland campaign as a sign that they are united. and still to the last sekond Stalin thought that Hitler would be trust to his pact with Stalin.
MsChevChelios 10 months ago
@MsChevChelios I think Stalin also had thought of Hitler to invade some time soon. He had his eye on the USSR for so long (massive land and natural resources). But USSR didnt know how long the pact will stay, so probably Stalin was just surprised how fast the Germans consumed that part of the USSR.
999cheetos999 10 months ago
@999cheetos999
but it was clear that fascists and bolsheviks couldnt stay long together.

USSR executed 13,000 troops because they didn't want to fight in Stalingrad. Only Russians could endure something like Stalingrad!??! Germans endured Stalingrad, French & Germans endured Verdun, then there was the Brit. Commonwelath & Germans at the Somme etc. etc. Buna & the Kokoda Trail etc. in New Guinea, etc. etc. etc.

@christof139 Agree, A very good point of argument. Please also add Kohima 1944.

& USA volunteers
christof139 1 year ago
@christof139 When in Russia authority tsar that Finland operated was a part of Russian empire, it is a historic fact. When in Russia revolution has begun and to authority has come Lenin, Lenin has given independence of Finland of Russia. Also the part of the ground of Russian empire has been attached to Poland when in Russia there was a civil war.
Vanyaaynav 1 year ago
@christof139 When Stalin has received authority in Russia Stalin has decided to return Finland in structure of Russia, that it was possible to it partially, having grasped a small part of the ground of Finland. In 1939 Stalin has returned a part of the Russian ground which Poland kept. England has concluded the peace treaty with Germany the documentary staff were kept where Chamberlain swings this contract and speaks that Germany will not begin war.
Vanyaaynav 1 year ago
@christof139 England has concluded the contract with Poland about military support. When Germany has attacked Poland, England having broken the contract with Poland has withdrawn, it was treachery from England. England has not won any battle independently as the army of England was very weak as well as the French army. Hitler has won all the Europe for short time. One case Rombelya fighted against many thousands army of Englishmen.
Vanyaaynav 1 year ago
@Vanyaaynav, You change the subject because that is all you know how to do. Britain & France could not reach Poland & they declared war on the Nazis when the nazis attacked Poland, then the USSR attacked Poland. Chamberlain etc. tried to keep the peace but Hitler made war. Stalin did nothing to help. Poland wanted to remove Hitler in ~1933-36.
christof139 1 year ago
@christof139 Stalin has borrowed the grounds of Poland which belonged to imperial Russia earlier. The interesting fact the Brest fortress which has been constructed by Russian imperial engineers has undergone to storm of German armies two times. First time German armies stormed a fortress in which there was a Polish army в1939 to the year, second time Germans stormed a fortress in 1941 in which there was a red army
Vanyaaynav 1 year ago
@christof139 I read about history WW2 much and also talked to soldiers of red army which told to me about that war. And consequently I can do the conclusions. England and France could send the armies to Poland when Hitler has attacked Poland but these countries were frightened and by that have betraid Poland.
Vanyaaynav 1 year ago
@christof139 Why Poland wished to remove Hitler? Hitler has received authority in Germany in 1933 and at that time did not represent threat for Poland :-).
Vanyaaynav 1 year ago
@Vanyaaynav, Because of the Polish-German war of 1919 - 1921 (same time with USSR) & Poland felt Germany a threat & also due to events of WWI. When Germany moved into Czech. etc. then Stalin suggested action, but Poland refused to let USSR troops cross the border due to mistrust. Britain & France were undecided but may have agreed if Poland agreed. So, 2 times it was suggested to remove Hitler. many people in Britain & France wanted this but as you Chamberlin etc. held back, & 2nd chance lost.
christof139 1 year ago
@Vanyaaynav, nayway, it's not your fault or my fault or the fault of citizens of Poland, USSR, Brtiain, France, etc. but fault of memory of large loss of life in WWI & faulty & convoluted politics & politicians.
BTW, I have many excellent books on the Russian Front that use USSR, German, etc. military sources (by Glantz etc.), & am now waiting for Prof. Zamulin's book on Kursk. Glad you all held & beat the nazis & wish it had never occurred. A terrible thing.
christof139 1 year ago

Not bad.

@christof139 I do not trust the American sources of the information because democracy and a freedom of speech of America is constructed on lie.
Vanyaaynav 1 year ago
@Vanyaaynav, Your info. about USA & the West etc. is based on old USSR lies. You're a complete idiot & the world including many Russians leaves you behind.
christof139 1 year ago

christof139 1 year ago
@Vanyaaynav, BTW, our own history is filled with mistakes, injustices, wars with the Indians/Native Americans, the issue of slavery & civil war, supporting some dictators in the Americas, etc. & it's the same with every nation in the world. Not anyone, anything, or any political system is perfect. Howevr, the knowledge of our past & errors are openly discussed, studied & analyzed here in our schools, univerities, in the media/news, etc. Literature by people involved is abundantly available.
christof139 1 year ago
