it takes a while to get the hang of the beat..but hopefully soon i will upload a nother video of just the trebble playing for the 1st lesson.. hopefully that should help =]

  • if you could it would be really helpful im getting stuck on the rhythm of the treble

  • yeah if you could start slowly with the trebble and then gradually increase the speed. I try to follow your hand beats but you play with perfection. :)))

  • Are a Dhal and a Dhol the same thing with different spelling, or are they different drums?

  • i've never heard of an instrument called the dhal :S

  • hey thankx for the lessons on the youtube it is very helpful. I have one request if you can slow down with the thili playing on the treble, im new at the dhol and would like to learn it and prefect it. i am having trouble with the thili.

  • Hey i think you should make a closeup movie on the ur hand when your playing the thili and do it slowly so its easier to see..

  • that seems like a very good idea, i will definately see what i can do

  • hey on the part 6:50 why dont you play the tilli slow .. I am trying to practice and getting lessons but show me how to play the thilli slowly. You are a amazing player..

  • i've had many suggestions about showing how 2 play the thilli side in more detail, and i will upload a video on it soon =]

  • First Of All Your Chaal Is Jumping

& Chaal Is Not The First Lesson MummyDaddy Is (Na Ge Ge Na)

There Is Not Just Na,Ge,Dha there is also Ke Which is Closed Side Ge Is Open Side...

And Your Dagga Is Held Wrong Its Meant to Be Facing Down.

Tbh I Think You Should Learn How To Play Before You Teach.

  • thanks for the corrections.. but i teach the way i was taught. so chaal was the first lesson for me.. and that's how i'm going to teach. and 2ndly.. i corrected my dhagga mistake on the 2nd lesson video.

  • ur the best teacher on here. thanks a million

  • thanks a bunch uve helped alot

  • very helpful.....thanks mate!!!

chak de phattey!!!!! i feel like dancing

  • haha.. thanks!!

  • grr i didn't think it would be this hard! do you have to move your entire wrist? can't you just like push with ur middle finger? if that made sence.

  • you could do.. but i don't think your finger would last long if you did it that way. it's better to do it with your wrist

  • y cnt i c ur facee

  • because i prefer to stay anonymous

  • okii!! bt thankss... u were of so much helpppp!!! :)

  • from 6:40 to 5:50 i hear the difference but i don't know wat it is.

  • the difference is that when the trebble side is being played just by reading the notes there is no rythme, no tune, but when it's played with a rythme, it sounds better.

  • don't know if that helped, but like that's how i can think of putting it at the moment :S

  • actlly it did help alot, also how much would a new dhol cost? cause mine is from india and broke the second time i played it.

  • o i get it!, you hit the treble twice and there is a small pauce, like a very very small pause, so wen you hit the base you hit the treble the ssame time. i get it.

  • i was doing it sooo wrong

  • where did you get the remo tilli? I have a remo bass but i can't find the tilli. help me out???

  • do you mean remo trebble??

    if from london area then:-

well i got mine from gurusounds on ilford lane, essex.

but you could get one at many dhol shops, i think jas musicals in southall do it too.

  • Yea, that's what I meant. do you know if they ship overseas? I live right smack dab in the middle of the US :-/

  • Hey just a quick question- where did you get your dhol from? I wanna start playing and looking to spend around £150 on a dhol, entry level one.

btw your vids are awesome, looks like they're really gonna help! thanks

  • hey thanks!

mine is from india.. but i kitted it up in the UK.. u can get a good dhol from either jas musicals in southall, or u have sum decent ones in gurusound on ilford lane

  • hey AnonymousMusician youve got a remo skin init

  • yep i do =]

  • thankk you...

im also a girl trying to learn

    and this has really helped

  • Check out female dholki player!!!

  • completely awesome!

  • thanks =]

  • great stuff!

can u make a video on how to tune a dhol?

  • ooo even im not an expert at tuning a dhol.. so im probably not the best person to make a video on tunning a dhol.

  • Thank you so much so this tutorial, it's absolutely great!! I am gonna go to the Broadway this weekend and get myself a Dhol. I have always wanted one after a mate of mine let me have a go on his Dhol.

  • yay!! great stuff.. wish u all the best with the dhol :D

  • hey great teaching. I got a family mhendi coming up. dont suppose you could post a how to play the dholki video? :)

  • i can't play the dholki im afraid.. sorry lol

  • that is a wicked dhol nice tuneing :D

  • thanks =]

  • hey do you know how to play a transition beat. Not sure how to explain it but its usually the beat dholis use as an intro or a transition between different beats. Hard to explain but umm for example its that rapid treble and bass beat kind of like a drum roll. haha sorry so hard to put a musical sound into words...do you understand?

  • uurrrmmm... i think i know what u r on about.. but i can't really say how to play it by writing it. it's got 2 b shown, and as soon as my dhol if fixed i'll make more videos and hopefully have one of those in there for ya!

  • thanks! when do you think youll be putting a video with that up, i hope soon. Just wanted to tell you that you are doing a great job with these vid lessons keep it up you are helping a lot of dholis out there. Dont listen to these haters, the dhol is NOT the most complicated instrument on earth its easy to pick up the fundamentals and elaborate them to become great. So dont let anyone say youre doing anything wrong and if they do theyre all just idiots. Thanks for the help.

  • so any idea when you can post a video for the transition beats

  • whenever im free.. and get my dhol fixed..got a lot going on at the moment

  • yer im havin trouble with the grip of the thin stick.....it just slips out my hands lol.....nice lesson

  • there's a little trick some dhol players use.. on the thilli.. a quater way down.. tie a small rubber band on it.. coz as u play ur hand normally slides up..rubberband will stop it from sliding up. if it slips out of ur hand any other way.. i duno wat 2 say 2 that lol.. other than just practice holding it lol

  • ooo.....yer i see, i must say you do know your stuff....playeddd

  • hahahah thanks

  • im sorry if think ur gonna learn to play think the fuck again. i play the dhol professionally this ain't gonna teach u shit, she is shit. If u think im wrong please feel free to keep that to ur self.

  • keep ur comments 2 urself 2.. n dont b putting shit on ma page!

  • cool but my cousin took some lessons and he said there are more ways to hold it. it depends if your comfortable me and my cuz hold it 1/4 way down 3 fingers and pinky for on the same side as the thumb and its also easy to play and comfortable for me

  • im guessing ur on about the thilli? many people hold it in different ways. whatever is comfortable 4 you is fine.

  • i just got my dhol and am totally learning from this. thanks shorty.

  • glad i could help =]

  • i think its from southalll lol

  • good job maytee!!

hey u frum southall i recognise that accent lol :P

  • hahaha.. naa i aint from southall.. am from london tho.

  • im getting a dhol when my dad goes to india and its really cheap there compaired to here. I went to my local indian music store and i asked how much a dhol was there and it was 400 bucks! Well im in NY so it may be different in some other places. Anyways, this video is helping me memorize the different beats and sounds. Thanks AnonymousMusician, YOUR A LIFE SAVER!

  • hahahaha im glad i could help.. n yeh my dhol is from india 2.. but i kitted it up... problem with indian dhol's are the skin.. the base is crap and so is the trebble.. so i had new ones put on there.. and the strap.. its rubbish from india.. put on a new strap.. so getting a dhol from india is good idea.. just be ready 2 spend a lil money on making ur dhol sound and luk better!

  • Thank u, ive just brought a dhol n i have learnt so much just by watching this :D

  • im glad.. good luck with the dhol ;)

  • lol HITIING THE DHOL LIKE THAT IS GE DONT U GET IT

  • I been trying to play chaal for the past 20 minutes after watching this video but I can't. I can't reproduce the cool sound.

  • sometimes is takes longer than 20 mins to get it right.. keep practicing!

  • This is so c0ol! After watching this, I am thinking about where to find a dhol to practice this.. may be I'll bring one from India when I will visit next

  • good tutorial...... madd respect!!!

  • I think you are the bomb, I just got my dhol and have been watching your videos and I think you are great, you inspire me to learn to play. Keep up the good work and thanks a million for all your efforts. Please don't let all the negative commments discourage you. Thanks SO MUCH.

  • =] IM GLAD I COULD HELP

  • Am really impressed that your teaching basics over the internet, but a quick tip. Dagga should always point down as this allows you to play 'ke'. Also try to speak out the notes as you play them. cheers

  • yeh thanks 4 the correction..i have corrected myself in the 2nd video tho.. and if i try 2 speak while playin, you can't hear me :S (crap recording lol) but thanks ..

  • I've just bought a Dhol and watching your video has helped big time...Respect AM!

  • :D im glad i could help

  • i need some thili hook me up, cant get them here in usa for some reason

  • very good video! thanks

  • Great Lesson. When's lesson #2 coming out?..
