  • sounds great

  • Could watch and listen to that style and that Gretsch all day! Great job.

  • the first video ive seen where a person knows the genre his guitar is suppost to be played in. wonderful job!!

  • Great playing and beautiful tone! Thanks for sharing!

  • you are a truly fantastic player sir, chet would be proud. I hope one day i could play like that, and afford this fine instrument.

  • @ubacam Wow, that's a pretty high compliment. Thanks so much for the kind words, Chet has been one of my main influences, so that sure means a lot to me. Keep practicing and you'll get there. It's all in spending time with the guitar. As for the guitar, keep an eye on ebay...lol.

  • @jmstern22 Haha thank you

  • Maravilloso ! Este tipo si que sabe ocupar una Gretsch!!

  • @PastenFelipe Thanks for listening and taking the time to comment. I'm a bit fuzzy on the second sentence, I'll try and translate it and reply...lol. I'm glad you liked it.

  • @jmstern22 "Marvelous! This guy surely knows how to ~fill in~ a Gretsch!!"

  • @GabrielRO8 Thanks so much for the kind words and taking time to leave a comment. I really appreciate it. I have really been surprised what the Gretsch can do. It is a very fun guitar.

  • Nice one. I try to play that song and someday I'll learn that sliding part between the Eb and the A. Watching you gave me some clues. Thanks

  • @9dinjees Thanks so much for listening and taking the time to leave a comment. That little sliding section comes off of Jorma's Big River Blues (same tune just a different title). I thought that actually sounded pretty cool, so I "borrowed" it to put in my version.

  • Very nice playing. Sounds really intricate.

  • @Boingusboingus Thanks for the kind words, that is one of my favorite songs. It is really fun to play. I actually learned it on acoustic, but I think it fits that Gretsch really well.

  • I like it so much. Very warm and old style. Rock on, man!

  • @fenderosa Hey thanks for listening and taking the time to leave a comment. I have to say, I really like that Gretsch, it really does have a very cool vibe to it. I think Chet knew just what he was looking for when he developed it.

  • bravo ! good sound, nice picking

  • @kingdomblues Thanks so much for the kind words. Sorry to take so long replying, but I really appreciate you taking the time to listen and leave a comment.

  • yes thankyou for playing like that ,,,its tough and im just getn it down ,,,I think it could be called boom ckick blues or rag figerstyle pickin ,,,any ways its all great fingering ,,,peace

  • Thanks for the comment and taking the time to listen. It's a bit of a hard style and it very hard to describe, but it sounds good when you get it going. I never know what to tell folks when they ask what I play, I just say "Sort of a fingerstyle, Chet Atkin-sy type of music". It's hard to describe, but fun to play...lol.

  • Hi, I just bought a lefty version of the 6122-59 and was searching on youtube while waiting for it to arrive. Delighted to find your vids. Both the guitar you sound terrific! all the best! Mark

  • Hey Mark, thanks so much for the kind words and taking the time to listen and leave a comment. I really like the 6122-1959, it has some really interesting possibilities. I have to say, that for some stuff I still like the acoustic better, but for the thumbstyle stuff, the Gretsch is pretty hard to beat.

  • Excellent. I really enjoyed listening to you play. I am learning how to play right now and I was wondering what kind of music you would call that. People always ask me what kind of music I want to play and I never know what its called.

Thank you once again for your beautiful music.

  • Thanks for taking the time to listen and leave a comment. Boy, that is a good question and unfortunately I don't have a good answer. When I play out I put myself on the flyer as Solo Acoustic Guitar. I guess I would call acoustic fingerstyle or fingerpicking guitar. I'll also try to relate it to other players, in the style of Chet Atkins and Merle Travis, but most of the time folks don't know who those guys are or what they play...lol. I've also hear it called Kentucky Thumbstyle guitar.

  • Great pickin`, man and that guitar sounds really good.

    Martin

  • Hey Martin, thanks for the kind words and taking the time to listen and comment. I have to say, that Gretsch is really fun to play. I'm having a blast with it. It really is something very different, but very cool at the same time. I'm glad you liked it.

  • Hi I could see the chords better but I am like you I love the sound of Martins , I own a Gibson myself I could,nt afford a Martin at the time. I love the tune you play on your latest video it sounds simple but I am sure it isn,t keep picking Daviod

  • Martin's are pretty tough to beat, they are turning out great guitars at the moment. I think the tune you are referring to is McGuire's Landing, don't be fooled,it is a real workout. Glad you liked it though, it is one of my favorite tunes.

  • Great playing , I can see both hands I am going to try and copy them . Nice Guitar Enjoying your videos thank You David

  • Hey David, thanks for the kind words and taking the time to watch. I'm glad I could help, I figured you'd be able to see the chords quite a bit better on this video. I'm such a Martin guy, but I have to say, I'm having a blast with that Gretsch.

  • Of course you sounds great.

I suppose that you have no thumbpick...

  • Thanks for the kind words. I have never been able to use a thumbpick well (someday I sit down and figure it out). The other wrinkle is that I get amore natural sound out of the Martins with a bare thumb. I lose some the depth of tone on the bass side and it becomes thumpy when I use a thumbpick. I do have a pretty good callous where a thumbpick would be though...lol. Thanks for listening.

  • Nice picking! Great guitar also.

  • Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to leave a comment. Deep River Blues was one of the first "real" fingerstyle tunes I learned and I never get tired of playing it. I found out it's fun on a Gretsch too. lol.

  • Well Gretsch is quality, no doubt ;D

But aren't they very expensive? :S

How did you come across it? :)

  • They are pretty expensive new, I actually found this one as a New Old Stock (NOS) on ebay from a little store outside of Nashville, TN. They were looking to get rid of it, so I picked on up for a pretty reasonable price, and it is actually a new guitar, but about 3 years old (it's a 2006).

  • That's a classy guitar you've got there:)

    Well played:D

  • Thanks for taking a listen and leaving a comment, I really appreciate it. I have come to the conclusion that I really like this Gretsch. It is an absolute blast to play. I am so not an electric guy, but this guitar really is fun.

  • Awesome! Great pickin'!

  • Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to listen (or watch). I appreciate it.

  • Great Job sounds really good

  • Thanks for the kind words, I appreciate you taking the time to listen and leave a comment. I am really having fun with that Gretsch.
