yes you can but you will have to disable the hand touch or you will have to make the pen touch the screen before you hand touches it...as soon as you bring your pen near the screen a pointer is seen...untill you have the pointer there you can lean your hand...

A digitizer is a form of hardware that will recognize a pen and where a pen is and when its touching the screen (also having right click and other features sometimes).

A touchscreen is anything that will pick up a form of touch, that being your finger, any object to point, your palm etc.

An active digitizer is used for people who want to take notes, when the pen is close enough, it will ignore all touch inputs. Also known as palm rejection.

The difference between the tx2z and the tx2500 is the type of touch screen, and the type of digitizer used.

The tx2500 is a resistive touch screen, which means it can pick up any pressure that is put on the screen.

The tx2z is a capacitive touch screen, which means it will be able to tell when an object that can act as a capacitor (like your skin) is close by.

The capacitive screen is much more accurate, and can also tell if your finger is close, but is more expensive, and weighs more.

The difference between the digitizers is the brands, the tx2500 uses a wacom digitizer, and the tx2z uses an ntrig.

IIRC the reasoning behind the change was that the wacom did not support multi-touch, whereas the ntrig did.

From the experiences of artists, they typically prefer the wacom digitizer, but for note taking, both are fine.

The differences between the TX2Z and the tx2500, is almost entirely in the multi-touch features of the tx2z. Base your choice on if you will use it or not.

i have tx2550eg and its a fucking great notebook but guys, grafikcard is BULLSHIT! you can do evrything just not playing games normaly ( i know evrybody sad to me what do you want to play with 12,1 inches but i think its fucking amazing! i can play crysis on 800x600 or need for speed undercover but low details , GTA4 unplayable !!

even if you play cs1.6 but FAN is going to be very loud and notebook is going to be really warm...

I see you kept the hinge spun around out of tablet mode. Is it solid enough to keep it like that? I heard the hinge was decently sturdy and thought it might be convenient to keep it in that reverse mode when sitting at a table (so i dont have to lean over to see the screen in tablet mode). thanks for the great vids. Hp should give you some dough...you sold me on it.

So far the hinge has been the most sturdy one of all the laptops I've had. Other laptops I keep having hinge problems with and it seems that all laptops have hinge problems.

Get the TX2Z if possible. It's the best one.

its a smart pen. if your using it it recognizes the pen first, not your hand so only the pen writes.

Once you put the pen within an inch of the screen it turns the touchscreen off and that way only the pen works and the touchscreen doesnt. if the pen is more then an inch away from the screen then you can use the touchscreen.

the tablet part doesnt work well with WoW or any fps. when you drag the pen past an inch the screen goes flying as if you were continuously moving the mouse to the left or right.

Great for college if you take care of it. It's primarily an entertainment laptop, so if you don't break it it's great for lectures to write down notes.

Doesn't have multitouch (but wish it did that would be awesome).

I'm sure there'll be some apps out there to simulate multitouch though.

If you have firefox, a good ad-on to get is "Grab and Drag" it makes browser like iphones so that you can scroll up and down by moving pen up and down screen.

I have the 6-cell. The 8 cell protrudes downward and outward. The 6 cell just protrudes outward.

The battery life on the 6 cell is excellent!

I've had to go to starbucks a few times because my internet at house was down and it lasted at least 2 hours on power saver mode (try my part 4 power saver technique) and it had full screen brightness turned up also. Astounding for a full-lit screen to last 2+ hours.
