Boy! Watching this again is HARD bless.. Like when Tyson gets WHOOPED by Bus Douglas man... Roy goes down like coal down a chute bless....! Chilling. Even now...
Roy was keeping his hands low taking a chance which he didn't use to do in the past. "he had reputation of a fighter who doesn't take chances" some commentator said as i recall.
damn it really upsets me to see him lose to those who he would finish off back then.
@lureyourkidsinvan please explain. you made no sense what so ever. do you mean that all people that watch boxing listens to rap? or do you mean that because somebody posted a boxing video makes them a boxer or tough shot? just like a ufc fan, you buy a "tapout" shirt and all of a sudden you're a black belt in jui jitsu. keep talkin shit
at 2.19 it looks like roy saw the right hand coming but he shoulder rolls he should have sliped to the left any ways roy was the best boxer ever there will never be another roy jones jr
@locovivoako I agree, Jones was the man back in the day. Problem is, he never slipped punches effectively, not fundamentally. Nothing about Roy was actually sound. He was simply a superior athlete w/superior reflexes and instincts. Age is exposing him now. Other than Ali, he had to be the most confident fighter I ever watched. That confidence is gone now. It's hard to watch. We need another guy like Jones to come along.
@JackassHill i know man its realy hard to watch him now you know he is not the same and geting hurt in the ring, you cant be the best forever like you said age gets to you, but he was amazing!
roy jones jr. is the greatest boxer i ever saw. it's just sucks on how he had to fight tarver & johnson when RJJ was already past his prime!!! he basically lost his best weapon, whis is his reflexes! tarver & johnson would've never had a chance against a prime RJJ. to all the RJJ haters that thinks he fought nobody, you guys don't know shit about boxing. RJJ just makes other boxers like nobody. that shows how good prime RJJ was!!! "YA'LL MUST'VE FORGOT!"
Here we go with the "past his prime" excuses. No Roy wasn't past his prime, he was just exposed and that all started with the KO by Tarver. Roy Jones has always had a weak chin but was so hard to hit that you could never tell until he fought a fighter that was gonna get right in his grill and pummel him.
@KASILL Agree 100%. Just wish RJJ had retired at his peak and unbeaten. He would have been a true legend. Instead he'll sadly be remembered for the back end of his career, and the defeats to journeymen fighters.
Glen Johnson is a rare spectacle in boxing he started boxing when he was 20 which explains his peculiar record but he re created his boxing style and he just wears you down and he also has 1 punch knockout power in his right hand but Roy Jones was obviously damaged after moving up and down from heavyweight if roy fought glen and antonio before going to heavyweight he wouldve knocked both of them out.
glen fought a perfect fight that night...he gave roy no target and press him all the time!you could see right from the start that he was not intimidated at all by roy jones!
I hope i'll make a lot of new friends here , i'd like to show my great body for you, i'd like to give you the greatest pleasure you've ever had..mmmmmmmm..Im getting hot just thinking about it come visit me at ... Play-Cam(.COM) ... my user-id there is Maria-achs chat soon on cam :) nkfvts
u asshole this match happened like 4 years ago there aint gonna be no rematch if there ws it would have happened by now. i like jones but i feel that johnson has the style to beat him except 4 when jones was in his prime back then he ws greazy
Man Roy abuses to many outside activities like drinking and smoking and partying to much. He doesn't take the game serious anymore. Got cocky and got knocked out! I think he's on that stuff man.
Roy cant get away with leaving his left arm down at his waist, and dance around like he used to...he seen that punch that knocked him out coming, but his speed, and head movement aint what it used to be..
Roy Jones did not even seem into this fight. It was like his mind was on something else. I still love watching him bounce off that canvas and lay they like a baby. He even had the nerve to still be talking trash.
Does anything any of us say matter one bit? Reality is Roy got knocked out, Glen Johnson does not care if you or I thought he was scared or if it was luck, he still won.
jones was super weight drained, having gone down 25 pounds to fight tarver and this motherfucker. jones should have stayed at heavyweight when he beat ruiz.
Dobermanboi1 your english teacher must be mad at you, anyways i agree though, to me roy jones was the best boxer to ever live, i guess in this fight underdog glenn had the most heard, roy thought he was gunna weather the storm, glenn never ran out of steam though
do u hav any god damn respect 4 roy jones foo?? u do kno he IZ da best fighta to eva put on boxing gloves chuh we kno he got knocked da fuk out it wuz an illigal blow 23 da bakk uvda head u cant hit ni99as inda ear nnndd glenn johnson would git owned by jones if he hadnt had 2 loose so much weight dats he lost hiz fights foo glenn wuz da aggresur buht roy jones iz da betta fighter urbodi kno dat so i juss wanna say u suk dik foo
plus boxers age differently, its on how many rounds theyve taken, i no glen has been in the bussiness for a while, roy's been doin it since he was like 4 he just aged quiker, and mow is right, speed is first thing to go on a fighter, did u see the knock out punch, he saw the punch coming but no reflexes anymore
It was due to his age you idiot poolguyh2o, Roy relied on his speed, which is the first thing to go in a fighter, which is why Roy aged quicker and harder than a guy like Hopkins. Hopkins and guys like that rely on their mind and experience, while Roy was always the best and most unbelievable due to his physical skills. In his prime he would have smashed Tarver or Johnson.
your thinking of that time when roy past his prime, and yes, had to drop all the weight. that tarver i heard didn't fight for a while till he fought jones, big advantage. imagine if roy was still the same weight, he could crush both. or better, in his prime and face those 2
Both may have been older, but everybody ages different, especially boxers/athletes.
Roy was never the same after he beat Ruiz; the loss of all that muscle so quickly, depleted his body. You just can't do that to a mid 30's body. Males slowly decline anyway once you hit a certain age, he made the process go faster. Look at when he fought Tarver I, no legs. A fighter/athlete without legs is in serious trouble.
RJJ is the Best ever in this generation, his loss' with Tarver and Johnson mean nothing, Hes already fought the best (Hopkins, Toney, John Ruiz, ect, ect) now hes just too old for the sport.
I don't think it was age as much as it was hunger. Roy wasn't hungry to br the best no more. After being knocked out he should have came out in round 1 throwing bricks. I think fame and fortune spoils fighters faster than age
It took me days to watch this fight all the way through. He was shook before he got hit, hard KO's have that affect sometimes. A "right-minded" Roy should have beaten Glen Johnson. RJ took this fight too soon.
Roy jones is a great fighter with his own unique style,
I think he should have had more bouts with B hop but bernhard was disciplined and all conquering in his division and did'nt step up until he go beat by JT jones vs hopkins should have fought in 2002, they were both on there A game then.Has anybody got footage of B-hop apparently destroying johnson in his only stoppage loss?Calzaghe should stop callin on hopkins until he unify's the division against kessler.
Chrismzax is right. Compare Glenn Johnson to Clinton Woods or Reggie Johnson, tops. RJ doesn't even spin off the ropes in this fight. This is Jordan playing for the Wizards territory. No need to hate RJJ.
james toney and bernard hopkins are legends... and roy handled both of em... in this fight, he doesn't even look like half the fighter he once was... must've been from all that weight he dropped, going from heavy back to middleweight...
Nah Nugga Nah 1Truant You dont kno shit bout boxing, obviously ur saying wat the people that dont kno the sport are saying. he made the olympics fool. top and youngest. he jus made em look like nobody! haha you calling james tony, montel griffin(2x) bernard hopkins, david T, reggae johnson, mike mcallum, that cock guy..No names..Like i said you dont kno the game
roy is a punk, when he had all those belts of his he wouldn't fight fighters that deserved their shot at him instead he would fight no name contenters that the different sanctioning bodies told him he had to fight in order to keep those belts and heir ranking of no.1 was always no name punks that anyone could beat.TOP Quality boxers would call him out and he would always duck the top quality fighters.duck the big name fights but you can't run and duck forever.he got punked out 3 times in a row.
roy is a boxing legend, people look up to him, he does moves we never seen in boxing(james Tony)
we gotta give our respect fot this guy, he came a long way. even james tony tries pullin off moves like roy too after he fought him. roy will get the title back i kno it
you could tell Jones just didn't have the passion he used to have. very hard for me to look at him on the canvas with his life flashing before his eyes. still no one can deny what he has done for the sport to become a legend.
This is brutal to watch if you were a fan of the "invincible" Roy Jones Jr. I didn't believe it really until I saw Tarver beat him for the second time after this fight.
